Three Things...Gratitude Thread

1. New luggage - ours was starting to tear at some of the seams. I found a really good deal on some of the hard sided from Kohls. We'd never used the hard sided and I was leary, but I really like them. Very glad I purchased them.

2. Grapefruit spoons - sounds so silly, but it's the little thing I guess. I used to have them and somehow they disappeared when we moved and I finally splurged ($5 lol) and got some more. So much more enjoyable to eat grapefruit now!

3. A new Fruit of the Spirits tshirt and tumbler. My dad passed 18 years ago this month. He was such a kind man and we listed the fruits on his tombstone because he embodied all of them. Anyway, it had been a long time since I'd bought anything with them on it and I found a shirt I loved recently and I'm so glad a purchased it. They had a matching tumbler, so I had to buy it too lol!

Good Morning!

A quick answer for me today….

1 - Going to the movies with my Grandma - best memory - Going to see Beverly Hills Cop and after the first 10 F-bombs at the beginning of the movie, my grandma whispering in my ear, “Do not tell your mother I took you to see this.” LOL!

2 - Mine and DH’s first date seeing The Great Outdoors

3 - Taking DD’s to their first movies - DD24 was Monster’s Inc and DD19 was Chicken Little.

1. Being dropped off at the mall and seeing classic 80s movies with my friends.
2. Picking up Happy Meals to eat in the car and taking our kids to their first time at a drive in…double feature of Freaky Friday and Pirates of the Caribbean.
3. Our yearly start of summer movies outside in the backyard that we started in 2019…Jaws is always the first one we watch.

3. Drive-in—a theater near us is still open for business and we’ve seen many movies there over the years. Fun experience and so much cheaper.
We have one by us, too. Will forever be grateful for its existence and the rapid way they adjusted during the shutdown. We gave them as much business as possible. It really was one of the brightest moments for us at a time when there were precious few of those.

1. Every year we went to my best friend's grandma's house to watch Wizard of Oz when it was on tv

2. Begging my mom to go see Grease when it first came out. She was pretty selective with what she let us watch on TV, so I'm sure it really bothered her to let me see it at the theater.

3. Drive in movies. The first one I went to was on my honeymoon in Ft Lauderdale in 1992. The next one I went to was with DH and our kids before oldest DD went off to college. We made a day of it, went to Forest Park to the zoo and art museum, ate at the Delmar Loop and went to the drive in after. We saw Breakfast at Tiffany's - the girls loved it, DS thought it was so boring lol!

Movies and movie-related

Seconding many of the earlier gratitudes (Blockbuster, drive-ins, etc.). In addition, some personal ones to add:

Being invited by my neighbor to join their family to go see The Muppet Movie. Classic memory-including riding in the back of the station wagon mashed in with six other kids, the rear window rolled down.

Seeing The Other Side of the Mountain and Joni with my family. We didn't have a lot of $ and lived out in the country so seeing movies was a rare treat for me. Mom was (and still is, I think) a fan of the struggle despite seeming adversity tales.

Driving home from college with my dad and stopping at a video store (some mom and pop place), renting Karate Kid, taking it home and watching it with my younger siblings. I'm not sure Dad has as fond memories of that, as I think we drove Mom crazy doing the crane all weekend. 😁

OK. I need a second set of three.

The tribute to John Williams our local symphony put on this past holiday season. They looked around at what other holiday offerings were happening in the community, figured the classics were well covered so decided to celebrate the holidays as a time with family and movies being a common family activity. Thus, a tribute to John Williams. It was delightful! They played music from Superman, Harry Potter and Star Wars. Some of the musicians came dressed as characters from those films. They did photos out in the lobby before the performance and during intermission. There was a Hagrid, a McGonagall, a Chewbacca, a Princess Leia, and others. So much fun!!!!

Private showings by the chain theater in our area. I splurged and rented the theater to see Elf with my work team during the holidays the second year of the shutdown. Being a small team, we were able to space ourselves according to our personal comfort level. It was a real boost for our morale.

Indy theaters. I love film. I especially love arthouse films. And the people who do the programming at those are some of the most creative minds around. There is an indy theater within 100 miles of me that I love. When they did an anniversary screening of The Godfather, they partnered with the Italian restaurant across the street to include cannolis with every ticket purchased. Similarly, the one in town, had White Russians available at the balcony bar when they did an anniversary screening of The Big Lebowski. ❤️

Movies

1. My mom, grandma, sis and I going to see The Proposal. We laughed so hard and one of the few memories I recall of all of us going out like that.
2. Ferris Bueller's Day Off. First PG13 movie I ever saw.
3. All the Disney movies that would play at the military base theater. We would walk over for a Sat matinee. Reeses were better then.

Movie related . . .

Musicals - from the classics like Brigadoon, My Fair Lady and the Sound of Music to more modern takes like Mamma Mia, I love movie musicals.

The ability to watch a specific movie whenever I want to - from the age of VHS, through DVDs and streaming, the ability to watch a movie in the comfort of my home is a blessing.

Movie soundtracks - many of my favorite songs have come from movie soundtracks. Hearing those songs on a road trip brings the movie experience right back.

Allison Joy, I'm just glad your 💻has lasted ao many years in general and that it still lets you check in with all of us,

I don't think I have ever been to a Drive In movie in real life, only through the pages of a 📕or in a movie. Thank you everone for sharing such precious family Drive In and movie in general memories.

1 I will forever be beyond grateful to God all the extra for His Mercy and added protection of me, my friends, along with Dad, and Champ in 1994. I was home from college on Christmas break when I went with high school friends one January Tuesday night to a movie. The theater we went to was located on the 3rd floor of a mall (probably has gone through many a remodel since) with a ceiling of windows so, all glass. I have no memory of what we saw. In the wee hours of Thursday was the Northridge earthquake. We were living at the time about 20 minutes away from Northridge.

Next year, wow, will be 30 years since this deadly quake. So many lives lost and others forever impacted in other ways. I keep all in extra prayer as I type this and humbly give God heartfelt thanks for keeping my 3 member family out here at that time safe.

2 Not a clear memory but one I was reminded me of when a Price is Right prize recently was a modern day projector. I've shared this on here before. Dad would rent at the library for me when I was very young, Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day. It was in now ancient movie reel form that we watched on a wall through a projector. pooh:and his friends have been special to me all my life and that was a start of why.

3 Dad and I enjoyed just last night extra time together watching the conclusion of The Wedding Cottage. Such a sweet movie that I would recommend.

Today's Topic (Thur, 5/4) - 3 Movies or Movie-Related Memories You're Grateful For
This is my first time posting to this thread! So fun.

1. I accidentally added my now DH on Myspace (😂), because I thought he was a Hellraiser movie fan page (his name was "Hellraiser" and he had a picture of Pinhead for his profile). He messaged me not long after, and I realized he was just him. 18 years later, it is still the best mistake I ever made. ♥️

2. My Mom and I had a tradition of watching Gone with the Wind together as I was growing up. There wasn't a set date, we just would randomly watch it (quite frequently). I think I may be a bit over the top sometimes, and I blame that on Scarlet O'Hara influencing me at a young age!

3. The Little Mermaid will always be my favorite Disney movie! I had the soundtrack on cassette growing up and requested (begged) my Mom to play it when she drove us around. My brother was less than thrilled with that!
