Three Days To Make A Decision?

(I posted this at another board, but thought it would be good for more Internet coverage)

Hey all. New user here. I went down to Disney a week ago, and went through the SSR walk through, and I really think I may
wanna take the plunge on this, but need a few more days to look into
some things. HOWEVER, I find myself in a bind.

You see, when I was down in Disney, looking at SSR, I was told
afterwards that since I was single (versus my friend who was with me,
who is married), that I had three days to make a decision after I get
home or else the $8 a point credit/keeping the 2005 pts w/out
maintenance fee deal would expire. A spouse whose spouse is not
around has until whenever after they talk to their better half back
home to make a decision. My reaction was "Gah" but thought.. well..
whatever.

Fast forward until today, which would technically be the "third" day
of getting home. Looking on their web site, I see no notice of
this "three day" expiration of deals. What if I were to call as a
totally different person, or same name and a different address or
phone number (I have three I could use)? That just sounds fishy to
me. Is there truth to this expiration? Have other people run into
something like this?

Honestly, I am very interested in the program, but if I technically
have until April 1st before the rates go up and whatnot, I would
rather wait until I get some of my reimbursements and bonuses from
work. Also, I hate such rigid "time based opportunities" like this
on a moral level. ;)

Oh-pinions?

Thanks in advance!

You can always buy resale. Good Luck on your decision.

Others that have taken the tour have been given the 3 day expiration also. If you were a married couple and took the tour together, you would have been given the same 3 days to decide. I guess they cant bind a married couple if one of them is not in attendence.

From what I have read here, DVC does stick to their guns on this and you will lose the incentive after 3 days. I always warn potential buyers before they take the tour, to not take it unless they really want to buy right away, because once you give DVC your info, they keep it for years!

I have read more than 1 report here on the DIS where someone lost their incentive due to the 3 day rule.

I think it's really an outright fib to pressure you into buying. If they want the sale, I am pretty sure they will honor it. Besides, it might not even be legal for them to not honor a deal that is open to pretty much everyone out there.

Look at it this way; You got 2 days, 23 hours and 59 minutes longer than any other timeshare sales presentation would've allowed.

There's a whisper on the wind and it's softly calling "resale... resale...".

I would check into the no-dues on 2005 points.

We just signed out paperwork and sent it back in. Our guide said that we would receive all 2005 points, but that the dues would be prorated and we would be paying for 6 months worth of dues on 2005 points.

Of course, if everyone else is getting 2005 points due-free, I'm going to be one hot mama!!

sanilacjack,

we were told 2005 dues would be prorated also.

OP, I feel your pain. I just went through this about a month ago. We, as a couple, took the tour and were given 3 days to decide. It was a horrible 3 days for me. I was on here asking for help and info the minute I walked in the door.

In the end it was too much pressure and I decided that 3 days wasn't enough time to make such a big decision. I wanted to be able to pay for the initial cost right then and couldn't do it yet so I decided to wait.

We will probably end up doing resale because of several reasons and one of those was the 3 day pressure deal.

Good luck!!

Such a big decision as purchasing DVC should be made on your timetable, not theirs. They seem to continue to offer discounts for SSR purchases, so I think it is clearly a buyer's market, at least for this property.

Do they only give you this 3 days rule if you tour? We did everything sight-unseen over the phone.

i took the tour and they told me about the 3 day time limit. I called back about a week later and they still honered it. I think that if the $8 per point difference is the only thing keeping you from buying they will honer it. If you go to there website it is advertised for everyone.

DVC has generally had specials that they limited to 3 days after a tour. If you had never toured, you would not have had that limit. Now that you have toured, they mean it. Others have posted frustration in this area about not being able to get the same special after the 3 days. If you wait past the 3 days you are not likely to get the price reduction retail. I'd agree with resale but you must first decide if DVC is for you. Would you go to WDW most years?

I took my tour in April 2005. I called this week and told them I was intersted and what are their incentives. I got a new guide (Bobby was a little too high pressure for me). This is the deal I got and he didn't give me a deadline. I would get for $8 off AND get last year's points (from Sept. 30 2005 - Oct. 1 2006). What really happens is (for example on 150 points), your total cost is $14,700, you put down $1470 (10%) and then they put down $1200 (the $8 credit), so your balance is $12,030. Just so you know your 10% downpayment in based on the $98/point, if that makes a difference. I didn't ask about the maintance fees, sorry.
The point is I went in April 2005! They had all my information (address, telephone number, and even who my guide was) in their computer and it seems I still got the same "deal" as the 3 day pressure sale. Love Disney, HATE PRESSURE!
BTW, I just signed a contract with a timeshare resaler for 200 points a lot less than $90, got 300 banked points. Including adding in closing cost, I saved $875 over Disney, plus got 100 extra points. Just a thought....

Even if you don't tour, there is a limit of 30 days (quite a bit longer, but still a limit) for their financing offer. After 30 days you are ineligible for what they consider to be their special interest rates.

One of my neighbors got the same 3 day offer and DVC stuck to it. We did a timeshare tour in Hawaii and all offers were void once we left the room, never mind 3 days. (We did not buy)

If you have the room on a credit card, call them and put the deposit on the card. Then you can take your time deciding while they mess around sending you paperwork, and your grace period to sign the papers. I believe there is also a legal time period (not sure how long it is) that you have to get cold feet and back out of the deal. That's what we did when we joined several years ago. We said yes, put the deposit on the card, and THEN did our days of analysis and decision making. DH is an accountant/economist so you can be sure there were spreadsheets involved! If we had decided against it, we wuld have not signed the final papers and put a stop on the card payment.

If you want the incentive but want to wait until after April 1st to pay you should have no problem doing this. We called over the phone and it took a few days to get the paperwork to fill out. You have seven days to return this paperwork for them to approve the sale. If you want to pay out of pocket like you seem to want to do you can play it a little like we were going to do. We had the money from a 401 we were going to use so we had some advantage. We told them we wanted Disney financing so we had a few more pages of paperwork to fill out but it also adds around a week and a half onto the whole process. Add in the time after you get finalized and the first payment is due and you are talking well over 45 days until any payment are due (still need a down payment but include there 8% in that). We actually put it on our Disney Visa before anything was due and got the rewards (170 Disney dollars) and then paid that off with the cash we had. You can pay off in full the Disney financing without any penalties you just may lose the few months interest so it will cost you a little to do it the above mentioned way if you cant pay it off before the first payment is due.

When we toured we were given the 3 day decision factor too. Although on our 2nd day the F&F promo came about and obviously we took that instead. Note the F&F promo is not avail anymore.

IIRC, according to my guide, maintenance fees are paid as follows:

1) For contracts at a resort yet to be opened, the fees start when the resort is opened for business.
2) For new members at an existing resort, fees start on the month of your use year.
3) For addons for existing members, the fees start when the addon contract is signed.

My DH and I took the tour in March 2005, I believe we were told 3 days, we talked about it for three days straight.... After coming up with a decision, we phoned our guide... she didnt' get back to us for a few days after that. At that point we still had questions and I mentioned the 3 day deadline to her and she said it's really more like 30 days. I think if you are still in contact with your guide and you still have questions, they are not going to hold you to those 3 days, after all they do want to make a sale. It's alot of money and I think Disney knows people need to reasonably think this out and it might take longer than 3 days.

just call in the evening of the 3rd day after 9pm. then your guide won't be there and tell them you would like to do it. then watch the caller id for a few days and don't answer when they call. My guide told me as long as i called before midnight of that 3rd day that I would be ok. That for me was a monday and I called back on friday to purchase.
