Why aren't there any layouts available that have twin beds rather than all doubles/queens? DS & DD are too old to be in the same bed. We are planning on bringing an air mattress for DS but it would be so much easier if DVC would consider have twin beds or bunk beds for kids. My DH & I are now sleeping with same sex kids whenver we travel because of this. It really is not the most ideal sleeping arrangements but most hotels just have the king, 2 queens or 2 doubles. Just wanted to gripe abit. thanks

DVC is a timeshare and there are timeshare standards that they have to meet in order to get trades for their members. Plus, having so many combinations of beds would make it very difficult for booking the members. I'd hate not have my king sized bed in the master bedroom.

A 2BR is ideal for families. One of the big advantages of most timeshare resorts, including DVC, is staying in spacious 2BR/2BA apartments instead of squeezing a family of four into 2 doubles or 2 queens, with a single bathroom.

A 2BR has 4 beds (each suitable for up to 2 people), counting the sleeper sofa(s), in three different rooms. That provides a lot of flexibility in sleeping arrangements.

I agree, you are absolutely correct. However...the 2 bedrooms require ALOT of points and some people just don't have that many. Frankly if it impacted my family and I had to decide between visiting once a year and having a 2 bedroom, or visiting more than once a year and having a 1 bedroom, I'd squeeze into the 1 bedroom. Honestly, there are many people who only have one bathroom in their houses as well.

I totally agree that it would make booking a nightmare if they had different bed configurations, the logistics just wouldn't work out. It's just a big jump when a one bedroom goes from sleeping 4 to a two bedroom sleeping 8. I guess this is a factor for people to consider before buying into DVC.

As timeshares go, DVC has very high standards, and better beds (and even larger for that matter) is part of that standard. If you want bunk beds, you need to forgo a timeshare and get a regular hotel room at one of the hotels. I believe WL has some rooms with bunk beds. Of course, then you have the kids in the same room as you, so there are some BIG trade offs! Our solution is to get the two bedroom. Everyone has a bed, and if oposite sex siblings don't care to even share a ROOM, then one can use the sleep sofa.

MMcCarthy, My husband and I have the same problem. My DD is 13 and my DS is 10. When we get a 1 bedroom, my DD and I have the bedroom and my DH and DS have the pull out. Not an ideal situation but we don't really spend a whole lot of time in the room anyway. I have thought about getting a 2 bedroom but I just can't see using that many points for the amount of time we spend in the room. I would rather use my points for a longer stay than a bigger room.

With a daughter that is 13 and a son that is 14, it is the same issue for us. This year we rented 2 studios and are just hoping they are next to one another. We will spend the whole time together, at bed time we will part ways. My daughter and I will stay together as my son and husband will.
We have considered borrowing points but then figured that we spend such little time in the room anyway that it would be better to get the two studios which turn out to be close to the same points as a one bedroom. I think if we chose Old Key west then we could have reserved a two bedroom. Maybe next time. This time we are sticking with the two studios. I feel better knowing there is enough bed space for everyone to sleep comfortably.
I wish they had a roll out bed option, even if it would be extra to rent.
Having the two studios will give us the extra bathroom also.
Hopefully it will all work out. I figured i'd mention it to you since we seem to be in the same situation.

We have been using the air mattress or cushions off the couch and love seat for the different sex children since 1997 and the problem was who got to sleep on those rather than who go the pull out sofa. At OKW the living area is so big there was plenty of room and children usually sleep well no matter what. The advantage of the kitchen/ washer dryer etc. far outweighed who slept where.
Even now as young adults we will be taking the aerobed (finally bought a real one that has its own sleeping bag) when needed. My 19 yo DS takes it to his friends on a regular basis and even prefers it to some beds in places we have been. Having everyone in the same unit is better for us but only you can decide what your family can deal with. The only place that I have been with the bunk beds what WL and while it seemed great when we went there I now know nothing can beat the units at DVC for my family. Hope you have a great trip.
