Threads all show up as new unless I read them...

Hello,

Just wondering about what I'm doing wrong on the new forums. On the old board, if I visited a particular forum, the new threads since my last visit showed up as new (bold). With my settings on the new board, all threads show as new (bold) unless I actually go inside that particular thread. How can I make my settings behave like the old board where all I would have to do is look at a forum and it would show only show new since my last visit threads as bold?

When you first log-in to the new system, that is true. It doesn't recognize where you left off last. As you poke around, though, you'll find that threads you've read become unbolded. My recommendation is to go to the top left and click on "Mark Forums Read" before you log-off tonight. You have the option to do this one forum at a time, or all forums. The next time you log-in, only new threads or those with new responses will show bolded.

Thanks for that, it has helped but mine is still not quite working right. I followed your advice, marked everything as read and they all stopped being bold. Then I came back and there were two bold threads in a particular forum I visit, I clicked (and read) one of them but not the other. Then, an hour or so later I went back to that forum and the one I read was not bold but the other still was bold. I hope we don't have to click the mark as read button each time...

The old system use to mark everything as "read" when you logged out. I believe this new system -- like some other forums -- "remembers" what you have read and what you haven't. If you want ONLY new stuff since you last visited to be bold, you will have to Mark Forums Read before logging off each time. Seems to be some like it the old way, others like it this way.

Well, at least I know it's not me...I was thinking I had a setting wrong somewhere...Thank you, hope there is a way (when they get the site fully baked) to set it like the old board regarding new/unread threads...till then I'll click the button when I leave.

This has been bothering me as well. I just want to make sure I understand.

I log in and out several times a day. Heck, sometimes I just leave Dis open in a tab all day and check periodically to see if there's anything new that interests me.

With the old board, threads with new posts were bold. After I read them, they were no longer bold, and when I went back later I could tell at a glance whether or not I needed to catch up with new posts. If the thread was bold again, new posts; not bold, no new posts.

The system was smart and did the work for me!

With the new board, ALL threads are bold. I've even used the option to mark everything as read, which makes, everything no longer bold. But when i log back in, everything is bold again, even really old threads w/o activity in forever.

So basically, if I understand your response above, the only way now to distinguish between threads with new posts or not is to manually mark everything as read. Which hasn't worked for me anyway. Plus, sometimes I don't want to mark every forum thread as read since maybe I didn't get to read everything I wanted and while some threads should be marked read, others, which I want to read later, are also no longer bold if I manually mark everything as read.

What am I missing? How is this better than before? HELP!
