Good Morning...

My DS10 just got
glasses-slip.gif
. He looks so grown up with them on. :sad1: He's so happy he can see better but worries now about what his friends will say. I told him he looks smart and handsom, but you know how much weight mom holds with a preteen. Just can't believe he is growing up so fast.

Here's a soapbox smilie for those who were looking for one.
soapbox.gif

Still waiting to hear about DH's job situation. Now they are telling him there will be a meeting w/ HR on Wed. Could go late. That can't be good:scared: So we'll be sweating for another week.

Here's to the :hippie: love fest!

Prayers to whgrn.

Lastly...I can't believe that Jason Castro didn't go home on American Idol last night. He was terrible on Tues.

morning all!

disney54us - very well said! SO sad to hear that your nephew is already on his way back. i thank him dearly for his sacrifice and for his service.

i think sometime people really forget what all that is for and about.

i'll always remember very clearly a conversation i had with my dad (who was in vietnam) when i was a naive teenager, who only saw the world in black and white, right and wrong (you know what i'm talking about, right?). this was during the Desert Storm years, i was in high school.

i was voicing my opinion to him, you know, how very sad that our friends, brothers, sons fight in a war and how devastating it is to lose that person. how pointless, how wrong (it is still so incredibly sad to me). i was totally of the mind "war is NEVER right."

i want to make sure people here or lurking do NOT think i'm trying to push that view or not push that view - how you feel is completely right!!!

and that's the point i'm getting to.

my dad said to me "you are free to have that opinion and you are able to talk about it here in this country BECAUSE people fought in a war for you to have that right."

i don't mean to be on a soapbox (we NEED a smilie for that one!). i guess i just mean that here - of all places - a Disney message board, there are people who get sooooooo mean to virtual strangers, who talk soooooooo completely rude to others - that is seems that THEY are forgetting those basic unalienable (sp?) rights of the rest of us. a major one includes the always-cited freedom of speech, BUT you canNOT infringe on another person's rights! so if everyone could just BE NICE!

of course, i know the disboards have their own rules, but you would expect that those rights still apply. right?!

i said all this without even checking on that thread that was closed, it was getting mean on page 9, i don't even want to know what happened after that!

thanks for letting me vent, and sorry to sound all preach-y.

i really love all you ladies, and i'm so very thankful that we have ALWAYS been able to share our differing views without resorting to that level.
:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

I guess I got off too early! WOW! Disney54us BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO!

I wish your post could have made it to the apology thread but they probably would have ignored it anyway. The took it over. I don't know about the banned thread but if it was any worse than some got on the apology one, I don't want to. Some of them should have been banned for their attack or calling out as they phrased it. It's that 'you are entitled to an opinion---as long as it is mine' attitude.
I guess I am just sheltered. I guess I like it that way. :cloud9:

Just saw your new post. You done good too! You are "preaching to the choir". I'm with you.
I cannot find a soapbox smilie but you know there's got to be one. Who had the smilie in jail? Maybe they can find us one.

Good luck, hugs and prayers... we'll be thinking of you and waiting for your grand DIS return!

God bless your nephew, neice and that baby girl. Please thank him for his service and may they all find each other in a giant family hug safe and soon.

I know I chopped your quote, but I was trying to shorten up my post a little and then got confused. :confused3 Go figure!

But, I love your sentiment. And, I agree that people should be a little.. scratch that... a LOT more kind and respectful in general. To our men and women in service and to each other every day. I've always tried to make a point to anyone I've had the politics/war conversation with... That I do not support this struggle and what I believe are the motives behind it. I DO however wholeheartedly support our troops. There is a difference. I know they are making great sacrifices to perform their duties and for their own reasons... some who agree with being there, and some who do not, but are fulfilling their responsibilities anyway. I have great respect for those individual men and women, and just want to see them home safe.

And, while we are having the Love fest :hippie: . (:rotfl: ) I love you guys too! And, I enjoy all the friendships I've made here... thanks.

BTW - Since I'm not doing so well staying off of here anyway! ;) I may as well take another line and welcome our newbies!!! I'll have to try and read back to catch up and find out a little bit about you guys!

WELCOME!!! :dance3:

oh, Disney54us, I am so so sorry for misinterpreting. I thought you meant he was going home. I hope they enjoyed this all too short time together. May God watch over your nephew and keep, and all our brave ones, safe.

whgrn, you are in my thoughts and prayers today. Rock that surgery!

I completely agree with your Magsnden. I have a different vantage point. My parents emigrated to this country to find their "American dream" and this is the best country in the world! They left the Philippines during Marcos' martial law--no one was allowed to disagree, to voice an opinion, to congregate. There were night time curfews and practically no rights at all. I could have very easily been born into that world, I'm glad everyday that I'm not.

All our differences make this country great and for that I value and cherish the American spirit and ideals. No one ever said we had to all get along (thought that would be so nice), we just had to respect each other. Some people have forgotten that.

Thank you all! I didn't mean to sound preachy, but my point was that so many people are tip toeing b/c they feel it's like a witch hunt and don't know what they can say or agree with and then end up banned! I was trying to say this is not what this country is about and not what what our fathers brothers sisters etc have fought for and are fighting for.
Magikitty, thank goodness that your parents got out and your life started here. You really get how great this country is.
It amazes me how people complain and down everything in this country, well go elsewhere and see what it's like. My father traveled throughout the world and I guess thats where my perspective comes from b/c I know about other places and the lack of freedom. Not that I agree with everything, but that's the point, I have the right to not agree, without worrying who's going to come and take me away. Ah yes so glad someone came in with a soapbox smilie of course would I know how to use it?????
Went back and read the closed thread and yes it did start getting back and forth nasty. I do have to say that I do agree with things that Webmaster Kathy said. I never thought of the disboards being a board even the CB for being nasty or debating political stuff etc. Are there maga posters that came on to do there thing, yes and the point is:confused3. As I've said b/f I realize that as you start to post more and get to know people like we have here you will start discussing things other then dis and trip reports. That is all good, but again, when we were moved to the CB, I had never been on the CB and when I saw some of the threads:scared1:I never thought that was what the boards were suppose to be about. I applaud her saying that being polite and respectful is what they want and people should be. If the nasty one's who come on to create 'drama' just because, then I think there are tons of places on the web they can go. Point is dreamin did not do that, and there are posters still on that are known to be rude and nasty. So when it starts looking like it's a pick and chose I have a problem with that, resembles HS to much for me.

Uggg, waiting for a whole week!!!! thoughts and prayers that it ends up better then your thinking.

Love fest, I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!!!!

Oh and one more thing while :mic: I really think we were made to stay on the Welcome board IMHO, yes we became a long thread and chatty, but that's where new people could find us and we have always been kind and Welcoming. Kayla is there and as far as I'm concerned the best of the best mod and we just sorta have the type of thread that belongs there.

Glasses!!! He'll look cool!!! Wish I knew how to get the cool smilies you guys do and put it in my post:sad2: :confused3

There might be a few snickers about the glasses but hopefully not much. It depends on the kids...do many others have them, etc. I'm sure the teachers will say how cool they are.
The other thread killer thread is on the budget board? Could we ask to go back to the welcome board? Say we are nervous in this unfriendly atmosphere?
:confused3 OK...I see the soapbox smilie...I thought you had the neat ones...how do I use it now? Was it on this site? http://www.mysmiley.net/

and :welcome: .

Don't worry about the title of our thread. We're really a very friendly and caring group. :grouphug: Your daughter is an important part of it. Thanks for letting us know how she is doing.

Tell her to take care.

I first got glasses when I was 12. I don't remember being given any grief about them. That, of course, was many moons ago, and times have changed. Just tell DS to enjoy the gift of sight. Persons who are mean spirited and may make fun of you will do it anyway. And I happen to find glasses quite distinguished and attractive. Tell DS that many girls think so too! (It'll come in handy in later years).

I've been watching the "other" TK thread on the Budget Board (coz I'm always there). Its getting pretty big. They too have established they're own little community. I imagine they'll be moved to the CB pretty soon.

Just jumping on quick to add the cake pics from DSs party.

Here's a "before shot" (when I finished making it at 2am. :scared1: )

And, a close up of the volcano

Here's one of the sparkler going

And here's where the eruption really got moving

P4270079.jpg

(I was so happy it worked... I didn't have time to experiment beforehand.

Thanks for all the interest and support. DS really liked it, so it made it all worthwhile!

Sorry the pics are so big!!! I don't know what happened w/ the formatting. I'll try to fix it later w/ an edit.

Lighttech - That cake is WAY COOL!Loved the eruption and the sparkler. :thumbsup2 Nice job!:cool2:

Hope I didn't sound sarcastic when I posted the soapbox smilie. Just knew people were looking for it. It was not a political statment at all. Don't want to get another warning for sarcasm.
If you want the soapbox smilie just right click on it and copy the http//address. Then use the "insert image" button that looks like a mini postcard w/ stamp.

Sorry Disney54us - I always forget about your "smilie disability". :rotfl:

lighttech What a great cake! it even erupted!
Thinking of whgrn
:cheer2: for disney54us
D&DDisney I got my glasses when I was in the 5th grade. I remember commenting on things I saw on the way home. Years later my mom told me she had felt so bad ("I'm a bad mom" moment) when she realized I hadn't been able to see well for so long. I'm sure I had taunts of "four eyes" but I didn't care, I could SEE!

Lighttech: It was worth it. The cake is so neat and DS's look of awe is priceless. You are a special mom! The tablecloth even matched.

lighttech..your son is absolutely gorgeous! what a cutie pie! That cake is fantastic--congrats! What was the lava made of? Did it taste good? Good job!

WOW! lighttech that is an AMAZING cake!! looks soo yummy too. i'm interested to know what the lava was made of too.
what a cutie patootie that boy is! i just love his face. by the way i have been telling my husband i wanted Brendan since i was pregnant with my daughter! i LOVE that name. it is the name of his best friend, and he says that's why. seems like a stupid reason to me.

and i know i never mentioned those really cool cupcakes you made d&ddisney! i thought that was really smart to have the background there. really perfect.

you ladies are putting me to shame - so far i've even had trouble just icing a bundt cake for Easter. it was pathetic and hilarious that my husband had to help me! lol! i'm not kidding! i must say i can cook and bake, but i just canNOT decorate!

i miss you dreamin!

Thanks everybody!

Magsnden - It took me a few years to get the hang of it... The ideas were there, but the execution was not. (Just last year, I made my icing so runny that I had to pat in extra powdered sugar to get it to stay on the sides of the cake!! :rotfl:

I have to run now, but I'll post the recipes as soon as I get a chance. It was actually way simpler than I thought.

D&DDisney - I scrolled back to check out the cupcakes everyone was talking about... WOW! They look awesome!!!

Thank you everyone so much for the kind words. :grouphug: I am feeling much better today about DS7 teeth situation.

I have no idea what "thread" everyone has been checking out in regards to the "upset" that has been going on around here. Therefore, I guess I have no comments. I just didn't want anyone to think I was ignoring the situation but I'm am pretty clueless when it comes to knowing what is going on with that. I've been very hesitant to ask about it as I do not want to get myself or anyone else in trouble.

whgrn-Good Luck, Best Wishes and a Speedy Recovery to you!

D&DDisney-I remember getting glasses when I was 14 and had the same experince as DL55. I couldn't believe how much better I could see. It was actually life changing. My DS10 had to get glasses this year and he felt the same way.

lighttech-Love the cake! :thumbsup2 I am always so envious of those who are so creative.

This is Wendy's mom telling you that Wendy's surgery went fine and she expects to come home tomorrow afternoon. She sounds great! She does not have any pain, but the food is AWFUL!!!!!
