One more and I promise to stop running my post count up too....:lmao:

D&DDisney-not only will I not forget about all the "little people" I knew back before I was related to the "world famous modeling waitress, restuarant owner with a pet monkey" (yes, I talked her out of buying a pet monkey last year), I will also get her to let us use her mansion right next to WDW for our business meetings. Of course, that's after she flies us down on her personal jet. :lmao: :rotfl: You all just have to get here first.

Oh, if you only knew her. It has nothing to do with dreams or innocence. She wants to be rich, plain and simple. But she doesn't want to really work for it.

Ohhhh, so she wants to be rich but not work for it? Ummm, tell her to forget modeling. It is HARD work!!!! I know, I've done it! (yes, amazing as it may be, I have done some modeling in my day...hard to believe, huh?) If she wants easy money, being a model is NOT the way to get it!!!

I can't imagine how hard it would be. It seems like it would be very tedious and time consuming. I believe she thinks it will be like some overnight success and she'll be living that high life in no time.

Not shocked at all at the modeling. If you don't mind telling, what kiind of modeling did you do? Was it very exciting? Enquiring minds want to know!

OK, number one, how old is SIL?? Does she realize that most big name models are in their TEENS or 20s??? Or is she planning on modeling clothes for "older" women? Because that's how it is. If you're 30, you're OLD! Just like a size 12 is a "plus size" model.

I was just that--a plus size model. All size 14 of me. I had this idea that I would model wedding gowns. Nope. Try mother-of-the-bride dresses! At the advanced age of 31!!!! Hey, it was fun. My favorite job was as a hair model. We went to this conference done by Paul Mitchell, and they chose some models who were willing to let them change our hair. I said "do whatever you want, except don't cut it short and don't dye it". They made me BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! I LOVED that hairstyle. Then we all did the catwalk thing in these red swing tops with white polka dots on them. Very cool. Someone once saw a photo me me and DSis (actually from Glamour Shots, not a modeling pic) and we were wearing sparkly tops. They asked if we were Country/Western stars! They actually thought maybe we were the Judds! (Um, no they are mother and daughter, not sisters...) Anyway, it WAS kind of exciting. Didn't last long, as I gained some weight and was "too big" to be a plus size model anymore! (Go figure--I think I was like a 16 or 18!!!) Ahhhh, memories...

I think she's around 23....too many birthdays in our family to remember actual ages. So, yes she is still young. She's not supermodel skinny and she is short. Nothing wrong with either of them...that's just her body type. I don't think she has given this any real thought. Truthfully, I think she would be better off just getting a glamour shots type thing done. From what she told me she did when she was a teenager, thats what it sounds like she did. And I think the biggest draw to all this is having someone do her hair, makeup and clothes. I'll have to get more info when she calls tomorrow.

The fashion industy sounds so insane lots of times. Mother of the bride dresses at 31. :scared1: How old were you suppose to be when you would have had the "bride"? The fashion industry really needs to open their eyes to what real women look like. It annoys to me all end that young girls are bombarded with these images of super skinny models. We have 3 girls and I don't want to obsess about their weight. If they are thin or plus size, they just need to be healthy.

Sorry. Rant over.

I'm glad you enjoyed the time you did get to model. The catwalk thing sounds really cool. Would love to have the hairstyle thing done. Though I don't know if I would have the guts to have it cut. the last time I had my hair professional cut was 5 years ago. I'm so used to what I have, I don't know if I could change it.

Good Morning killers, up early and posting. Want to prep for when we are having our early morning breakfast board meetings at the world:rotfl2:.
So I will start making lasgna soon. Having one of those Sunday Dinners today, made the gravy last night.

Sounds like fun and work!! To have some of the best stylist doing hair and make up:thumbsup2. 30 and mother of the bride!!!:confused3

Okay, I was going to ask the same question. She is young, but from the sounds of it not just in years in maturity. I have a DN who has some of those traits. she is about 25 and has alot of growing up to do, especially since she has two young boys. Yes she is beautiful (ex sil model and she looks like mom). but it is the mentality of money and getting rich w/o working for it that they need to grow out of. Of course add to that unless you DB has a trust fund, people don't just go buy restaurant's one day a monkey a month b/f and decide on modeling in Feb. since we all know Feb is a boring month. Sounds like you have your hands full but she needs a reality check. My DH's younger brother was married to someone like that, pretty girl like so many others out there always thought she was going to get 'discovered' shopping at the mall.:confused3

Oh, and very sweet about DD12 and the sleepover. Remember they always need you, just sometimes in different ways!! Your almost a Dis Vet:cheer2:.

Good Sunday morning TKers!

dreamin...how sweet of your daughter. She's getting to that age where her entire world seems to revolve around friends. She's starting to stretch her boundaries, but she realized that there really is no place like home. You and whgrn keep posting all day long! You're almost to 500! Pet monkey??? That is priceless.

whgrn...how exciting for you to have been a model. I've been a big girl all my life, and we need more Plus sized models! Its important for girls of all ages to see people who look like them, and how they can be part of all "the cool stuff" they see on TV and in magazines. It may not be the healthiest way, but its important to live in the now. If I get lose weight and can wear smaller sizes, then great. But I have to dress the body I have now, and be proud of myself.

I have nieces, and I can't beleive how fast and early they are bombarded by media images! My one niece has been obsessed with her weight since she was a little one. She and her friends just have unrealistic expectations of their lives and their parent's wallets. I can understand wanting to be in style, but when she pouted because she wanted $250 Uggs, I just laughed at her. When she earns that money, then she can get it.

And the boys with their video games! There's always something new, more cool, more expensive coming out. I understand special treats for birthdays and holidays, but how can you really keep up? Cell phones, Ipods, Wii, Nintendo DS, there's just so much out there.

I guess this comes back to "wanting to be rich without the work" talk. This attitude really is prevalent. There's this sense of entitlement, expectation. My birthday is in December, so I had two shots in December (birthday and Christmas) to get big gifts. Other than that, it was really just necessities, maybe the occassional treat. Of course, I want to be rich, but I'm just happy getting by and putting some away. I seek my fortune the old fashioned way---I'm hoping to win the Lotto!

Sorry so preachy today. Must be cabin fever. Still looking outside, willing the snow to go away. Until then, just nursing my cocoa. Happy Oscar day everyone! My friend and I actually "dress" for the Oscars, just for some fun. I have to plan our Oscar hors d'oevres now...talk to you later!

Thank you, thank you so much! I really didn't expect to win, its been such an honor just to be nominated. Firstly, I want to thank Walt Disney and his vision, for bringing everyone together on the Dis. I want to thank my fellow TKers, who have been so supportive and kind and generous on this Thread Killer Unite! project. I really would not be here if not for you. To blatantly steal from fellow Oscar winner, "You like me, you really do like me!"

Hee, hee, I always wanted to have an acceptance speech. Thanks Shmu, for indulging and letting me have that silly dream. I did tour the Kodak theater where they have the Oscars, but they wouldn't let me give my speech then. :rotfl2:

Okay Lasgna in the oven. I like to cook it early and have it settle, then heat at dinner time, it just comes out better that way. Is it just me or have you noticed the smilie box changed the order of the smilies??? The eek and scared is not in the box to the right of the posting box you have to click the more link. They put the wave(hi) on in and the beach umbrella and a few others that were in the more. Some are hardly used so I don't know why we need the smoking and motorcycle ones and some others for easy access:confused3. At least they didn't move my confused one since we know I us that alot:rotfl:.:scared1: cabin fever, it's okay and your not being to preachy just venting. My DD did her project paper for her Humanities class on the media and body image. She got a A:cheer2:, she just sees all these celeb's on the cover of magazines and in TV, that are unhealthy thin and sees girls in her school munching a carrot stick:sad2:. I think thats fun what you and your GF do!! I wish I could get more into the Oscar's but since most of my movie going is Disney movies since having kids, I really don't know about the ones that are nominated:upsidedow.

How fun.

:rotfl: :rotfl: Not only will I be related to the "world famous waitress model, restuarant owner with a pet monkey", I can now say I know an Oscar winner. My life keeps getting better by the minute. :cool1:

disney54us-Yup, you're right about her being very immature. I understand that she wants to better her life but the get quick rich schemes don't work. She has to start being realistic about what she can do. MMMM....lasagna sound good. I'll have to put that on my list of things to cook this week. I know what you mean about movies. The most I ever see of up-fo-date movies, is the previews on yahoo. And the last 2 movies I saw in the theater were Disney movies. :lmao:

MagiKitty-Thankfully, DD12 isn't obsessed with all those name brands yet. She likes them and everything and would like to wear them. But when we go to look in those stores, her eyes about pop out of her head at the prices. She would much rather go to Old Navy and get 3 pairs of jean for the price of one pair at Abercrombe. Smart girl. She does have alot of the gadgets you talked about. She got the ipod for Christmas but it was a used one and she just as thrilled with that as if it was new. I jsut don't want her think that unless it's the latest model, it's not good enough.

Congratulations to MagiKitty for her Oscar :cheer2: This will be as close to watching the Oscars as I will get.
whgrn 31= mother of the bride, size 12 =plus size model, the fashion industry = :crazy2:
I like most of the new collection of smilies. Why can't the bride smilie and the groom smilie appear together? :scratchin I can't resist using some even if they're not relevant :badpc: :drive: :beach:

Geez. You guys have been busy busy since the last time I was on. Not even watching the oscars tonight. I'm so out of touch w/ movies, it wouldn't be worth it. Sort of sad for someone who was a theatre major and is currently employed in the tv/entertainment industry. :sad2:

Oh, if you only knew her. It has nothing to do with dreams or innocence. She wants to be rich, plain and simple. But she doesn't want to really work for it.

Sounds like she should drop the schemes and talk to MagiKitty, our one and only lottery winner... just remember to be specific in the prayers as she said! :rotfl:

That's really cool that you got to experience something like that. I think its something everyone thinks about at least once, but most of us talk ourselves out of it w/o even trying. Here comes a very cliche - "YOU GO GIRL!" :cheer2:

(Of course followed by heartfelt congratulations and a few laughs...)

Good for you for raising a girl with some sense. You obviously did a great job teaching her the value of money. Its a tough thing to do these days. I hope I can do as well w/ DS.

BTW - Dreamin'... was it you that mentioned the Celtic Classic oh so many pages ago? I know it happens near you. We're actually thinking of going up for the Winter Classic next weekend.

Well, poor DS was really sick today. Fever and all, so he's safely tucked away in a tylenol induced slumber, and I'm exhausted, so I'm going to go off and find something non-nutritious and easy in the fridge to eat (DH is out, and I never manage to cook anything healthy when its just me. I normally eat w/ DS on nights that I'm home, but he just wasn't hungry. I managed to talk him into some juice and some applesauce w/ cinnamon, but that was it.)

Keep up the smiles everyone. And, good luck w/ the thread counts.. there's a lot of you getting so close!

Don't forget, you also know a Jen-You-Ine Plus Size Model!!!:lmao:

Gee, I'm starting to be relieved that DD is such a tomboy! She's perfectly happy with jeans and a T-shirt.

And yes, my kids do have cell phones (for emergencies only, and they are very responsible with them), iPods (GREAT for travel!), a Wii (Chirstmas gift from me this year, and I get to play it too!!!) and Nintendo DSs (also great for travel, altho Danny would play his 24/7 if I let him), but to be honest, they've acquired these over several years, and the Wii is their first ever game system. I try hard NOT to spoil them with "things". I would much rather splurge on vacations to cool places. How many 11 and 12 year olds can say they've been to Jamaica, Turks and Caicos, Disney, and Turkey (twice each) as well as an Alaska cruise, a cruise from Boston to Montreal (with July 4th fireworks on the Charles River), a Disney cruise, and a Mississippi riverboat cruise? Not to mention visiting lots of the states in the US (our goal is all 50!!). I think that's much more worthwihile than all the "stuff" some kids accumulate. JMHO...

Although, I just noticed your trip countdown to Scotland. Thats one I have done. Where are you headed?
