Hey TKers! Getting ready for the "snowstorm" here. And of course they are prdicting more ice. As much as I dislike snow, it would be nice to have at least one real snowstorm for the kids to play in. So far, we've had more ice storms than anything. Here's hoping there's no school tomorrow. Had to make the costomary run to the grocery store. And I didn't even buy milk, bread and eggs. Decided at the last minute tonight to make some stuffed peppers tomorrow. Something nice and warm while the weather is suppose to be horrible.

Gotta run....SIL is on the phone with some hairbrained idea about being a model now. I'll fill you all in later.

Happy snow day---I can say happy because I don't have to go out in it. It sounded like they are not calling for as much ice as they had yesterday. I hope not. It looked like all our schools were closed. I think they try and keep some preschoolsw open for working parents but saw some listed. I'm trying to decide when to shovel---before or after sleet? It'll be heavier if I wait but it'll be hard to get the sleet/freezing rain up if it freezes??? The people across the street always get it off early. I'll give it a little bit yet...now that sounds a little bit PA Dutchish. Later Killers.

well we FINALLY got some serious snow! at least 6 inches and it's still coming down hard. YAY! DD is out there now for a few minutes (poor DS is very sad he's not) since they said it's going to be rain later. boo hoo!

Big great snowy hugs everyone! This storm is turning out to be a bit nastier than earlier thought. I've been watching to the morning predictions and it went from 4-6 inches to 10-12 (as of now anyway). Still snowing steadily and heavily, and supposed to turn to ice later on. Oh goodness!

M&N...you're so right! I'll switch from "old maid" to "woman of leisure". I am so blessed to have so much in my life at this time, even if its rather unorthodox amongst certain persons. And yes, I do love great literature, books in general actually. Borders truly is a paradise and a trap for me. So many books out there! I'm trying to figure out which Austen book to read first. Shovel later!

As for the weather, we got a few inches overnight, but now its turning into sleet and freezing rain. I'm bummed for DS, if we were going to get the darned white stuff, I was hoping it would stick around w/o ice long enough for him to play in it. He's been asking all year.

Glad for all who are enjoying the snow day!! Wish I was, but retail tv never takes a day off. (well, except Christmas. )

Hey everyone! Got some snow today along with the customary ice. Kids got to go out an play for a little but they actually didn't want to stay out too long. And I totaly agree with whgrn...no more snow!!!

It's the ice I hate. I didn't go to Mom's yet so I could make sure my sidewalks were ok. But it's still doing something out there. The weatherman said the computer called it undetermined because it could not figure out what was coming down. Three of us were taking our mom's out for lunch but we changed the location and made it later to be sure the roads were not iced. This place will be better for WW too. I bought a Jeep Liberty so I could get around in the snow but I'm still chicken. Have a good weekend...

Ok, to give you all some interesting morning reading, here's the latest on SIL. A couple of days ago, she calls me and says she wants to get into modeling. Appearently, when she was a teenager, she had some kind of "modeling" pictures done up. Ok, from the way she describes it, it sounds like that place "Glamour Shots" where you go in and the fix your hair and make-up, take your pic and that's the end of it. Kind of a one time fantasy thing, you know. Now back to her idea....her mom, who happens to be interesting in her own right, told SIL that she should get into modeling. SIL takers her advice and starts looking on Craigslist for a modeling agency/photographer.

She finds some guy listed on there who will take professional pictures for very little money. She sends him an email right away and he sends her an email link to his website. The website is filled with nude models. Nope, she doesn't want that so she finds some place in the phone book. She now has an appointment with some agency in town and if she pays them some money, they will tell her if she has what it takes to be a model and if not, they will tell her what she needs to improve. Yeah, sounds like a great place. SIL is pretty on the outside but inside she has some problems and I think that shows through.

Now what makes this so "interesting"....for 8 years or so, SIL has never mentioned one thing about this. Of course, 2 months ago, she wanted to buy a restaurant too, because since she is a waitress, she knows how to run a restaurant. But it's all good....maybe in a few months, I'll be related to a famous model. I bet I can get some good perks around here just by dropping her name.

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but I have been having extended family problems lately. Ever since my dad died, my sister has become . She's become super competative, gets mad at my brother and I if we do something w/ my mom that she doesn't get to, got my mom to make her power of attorney w/o consenting my brother and I, has cussed us out in front of our children, and then brags about how much moreshe does for mom than anyone else. It's so to see your family fall apart after a tragedy. And, right now, there is noooooo talking to her w/o an all out war. Believe it or not, I have not been my sarcastic self and instead have tried to take the high road. I need some positive affirmations or prayers on this one.

Its really hard on a family when a parent passes. It can make people do strange things. When my father's mom passed a while back, he and his sister and brother fought over everything. And, none of them are very organized or business minded, so it fell on my mom to handle a lot of the situation. It was very awkward since it wasn't her mom whose affairs needed to be handled. I'm only guessing, but maybe your Sis is trying to take control in any way she can since she's feeling out of control about your Dad's passing? Hang in there, this too shall pass.

And, I agree w/ everyone's sentiments so far. Just make sure your Mom is being taken care of as best as possible. That's most important right now.

Completely agree. What I was saying above was that I don't really want more snow. I just wish it wouldn't ice all over this stuff. If we are gonna get the snow, I'd like to be able to enjoy the white fluffy stuff.

Please tell SIL to be VERY careful! (Not that she'll listen if she's that impulsive.) But, especially when it comes to modeling and acting, there's a lot of people out there who only want to take your money (if not having more questionable motives.) Good head shots for actors can be very expensive, but you should always get a serious look at their work and recommendations before you give them any money. And, you might suggest she do a BBB check on that modeling agency. She might find there's a few complaints lodged against them.

But, serious stuff aside... Too funny. Let us know what the next big dream is. Astronaut? President? Race Car Driver?
Although... its good to dream. Good for her for hanging on to that innocence I suppose.

Hate Ice!!!! Better to be 'chicken' then stupid. I've driven SUV's well before they were called SUV's, what amazes me is that I don't care what you drive ice is still ice (unless you have skates on), and people who don't slow down and think they can do anything b/c they are in a 4x4. Of course they usually were further down the road spun out.

Oh goodness!!!! Okay, first off Craig's List is a very sight many wack a do's on there. Second, if she really has what it takes, she would not have to pay a agency for them to tell her and change her. My ex SIL was a model. She really never admits to that, when people ask. You can just see it in her, but she was always modest. At one point, which she turned down. Ford Model Agency in NY wanted her for a interview. So again, true agencies are going to make money from you and they know if you have what it takes. She should be careful, not wasting her money (though from what you say, she is good at that). Also, be careful of the type of people out there, that whole I want to be a actor, model, singer, brings out some very sleezy people taking advantage of others 'big dreams'. Gee, your DB has his hands full!!!

D&D I tried two times last night to post to your family situation, (see above), lost the first one tried again.
So here goes, on the passing of your dad. Sounds like DS is out of control, maybe she has guilt if she wasn't as close or not around as much and now wants to be the 'end all' to mom. Not that its a excuse for her behavior, cursing and arguing in front of your kids. Not acceptable, we may all mourn in different ways, but she needs to get a grip. Sadly, death of a parent brings out greed in many families, so you and your brother have the right to be concerned if what she is doing is really in the best interest of your mom. Vent anytime we are here for you.

Oh wow Tkers! So much to talk about! Let's see what I can tackle...had a migraine last night so was out of commission. Looking outside and really, can anyone shovel 12 inches of snow? Just have to make a path to the car, and for the postman, that's as much committment as I'm going to make. And I agree, NO MORE SNOW! Although, we usually have snow until late March/early April, I'm going with the positive thinking...this is it! The last storm of the season!

dreamin...your SIL is so entertaining. It sounds like she has many, many interests. Bless her for having her dreams and going after them. But everyone here is right, its easy to get swept up in the moment and not make such good decisions. That being said, if she is smart about it, there are calls for all sorts of model types and sizes, but rarely do these things "just happen". Takes a lot of diligence and hard work.

D&D...I'm so sorry for your family's loss. And yes, each person handles things differently. It sounds like your sister is trying to step up and assume responsibility for things, which is admirable. But her methodology is incorrect and is doing more harm than good. Above all, your mother's interests are key. And its in everyone's best interests to have good family relations, or at least, the most civil.

At least that works for my family. My grandfather passed last year, and one of my mother's siblings is causing havoc about estates and properties. Its really ugly and the worst part is that its the last thing my grandfather would have wanted. I keep thinking he's looking down shaking his head. Try to work things out with your sister as civilly as possible. Sometimes people just lose sight of the bigger, better picture.

TK Industries it is~ I think we could work out an Inaugural Vacation, you know to get things on a roll....we could have a "convention" at the world and just rack our brains about our next endeavours!

Thanks again for the Danielle support. I ordered some cute onesies to send with my parents when they go visit next weekend. She's only 4 lbs right now, but she does need little clothes, even if they're a bit big!

In a shameless attempt to boost my post count, I will address things one at a time, each in it's own post.

TK Industries? Works for me!! Sign me up for the catering aspect. I love to cook, and I'm rapidly becoming the nutrition guru, so I could do the "healthy eating" angle. As an RN, I'd even sound like I should know what I'm talking about! (since I sure don't LOOK that way!!)

So, when is our first planning convention in WDW? I'm SOOOOO there!!

I agree. 12 inches sounds like a great excuse to declare yourself snowed in, and refuse to leave your house until it melts!

Personally, I don't shovel snow. I have a handsome neighbor take care of my driveway with my snowblower, and then my slaves (AKA my children) have to shovel the front walk. Hey, they are 11 and 12, young, strong, and healthy. I, on the other hand, am an out of shape, overweight, middle aged woman with arthritis. Show shovels and I do not get along AT ALL.

Thanks everyone for the and advice. I wish it were just as simple as sitting down and talking. But, to be honest, my sister and I were never close and I don't think we will ever be. We were always complete opposits. My sis was always in fierce competition with me and others around her. This competition has lead to (as Dr. Phil would say) a toxic relationship. You know, one of those where you feel worse about yourself after spending time w/ that person. She has a way of making others (namely me) look bad in an attempt to feel better about herself. For now, I will just stay quiet and try to keep things as calm for mom as possible. Stay tuned for further details.
Oh, and one of the Ds in my siggie does stand for Debbie, but the other is not for Downer. It's for my DH.

Evening everyone!!!! Haven't been on all day....DH was home today and we just spent some family time together...no computer for anybody. DD12 went to her first official sleepover party last night. She came home this afternoon and told us she didn't go to sleep in 4am. Nope, they weren't all still up talking, giggling, and acting silly....she couldn't sleep because she wasn't at home. Good head shots for actors can be very expensive, but you should always get a serious look at their work and recommendations before you give them any money. And, you might suggest she do a BBB check on that modeling agency. She might find there's a few complaints lodged against them.

I'll keep an eye on her. She never takes anything DB says seriously but thankfully she listens to me most of the time. I can't always stop her but I worry about DNephew. He's alot of the reasons I use to talk her out of crazy ideas. And yes, I'll tell her to check out BBB before she goes. And if she doesn't, I will.

Second, if she really has what it takes, she would not have to pay a agency for them to tell her and change her. My ex SIL was a model. She really never admits to that, when people ask. You can just see it in her, but she was always modest. At one point, which she turned down. Ford Model Agency in NY wanted her for a interview. So again, true agencies are going to make money from you and they know if you have what it takes. She should be careful, not wasting her money (though from what you say, she is good at that). Also, be careful of the type of people out there, that whole I want to be a actor, model, singer, brings out some very sleezy people taking advantage of others 'big dreams'. Gee, your DB has his hands full!!!

I know exactly what you are talking about with people taking advantage and we all do what we can to help her. But if you get too involved, she gets really mad. It's a very fine line we have to walk with her. In fact, I've only just begun to discuss what happened at Christmas with her and stepmom.

DB tries to keep an eye on her but it's always not easy. She is very strong-willed...actually quiet witchy if she doesn't get her way. Sometimes I feel very sorry for him but then he chose to marry her knowing what she was like too. I try to be the voice of reason in her head but sometimes the other voices are louder.
