Thanks for the recipe!

Hope you all stay warm and dry today. cold and windy here today, but supposed to warm back up tomorrow.

Sorry dreamin, no advice on planning the big family vacay. But, good luck to you. I know everything will work out.:thumbsup2

Have a great day ya'll!

Recipe looks great. Thanks for sharing.
DH favorite is apple pie. Think I'll try this tomorrow.

I have a question for my northern friends.
DS and his karate instructor have plans to drive up to Maryland this weekend for a tournament. (:confused3 oh, to be young again)
Anyway, what is the weather like. I have heard bits and pieces.
Is it dangerous driving weather?
We are from GA so they would be driving a long way.

I know it's late but I have an update on the family vacation and SIL....you all
Anybody have any experience with planing a huge family vacation? What can I do to show that the good of the family is better than the good of one person?

PS. I pretty sure that stepmom would go along with it as long as we don't spend every moment with them, which we weren't planning anyway.

I gotta say, I admire your commitment. With everything you've been thru, its amazing you can continue to search for the good.
I don't have a lot of advice on big family planning, but I did read some tips on here somewhere recently, and I remember one thing that seemed like it might apply to your situation.

That person was also going w/ family that they weren't sure would really benefit the group's experience. They made separate plans, but left open "group" days. I.e. - If they were going for a week Mon-Sun. Everyone booked their own hotels for those dates (allowed everyone to do their own price range, bargain hunting etc.) Then, the original planner - who happened to be the DIS-er and the only one who wanted to plan early b/c she knew the benefit of ADRs, etc, planned out her reservations. She updated everyone else and said, we have plans to be at, for example, MK on Monday with an ADR at Crystal Palace at noon. If anyone would like to join us there after 1pm for the rest of the day, lets set up a meeting spot. Monday night, we will be watching Wishes if anyone wants to join. Tuesday is an open day. Does anyone have a park they would like to go to? Etc, etc etc.

Hope this helps.

Gotta go. Lunch is done. Take care TK'ers.

what did you wind up doing stroller-wise? did you go for the joovy or the other one, was it babytrend?
tell us more about your trip!

Finally able to get on here. Electric was out all morning. At first, I thought the computer totally blew up this time. Things like that always seem to happen to us when we have a little extra money saved up.

Thanks for the advice. I was thinking along those same lines too. Right now our reservations are booked as grand gathering so hopefully our rooms will be close by. If they would decide to go, I could book their reservation seperately. They would still be at the same hotel but just in a different section. As many problems as I have with SIL, it would all be for my dad and brother. Well, me too but I get sentimental like that. I guess I just need to think about it some more.

Shmu-I just looked at the weather for up this way and they say it should be warming up. So whatever is on the ground now, we are hoping will be gone by the weekend. We haven't gotten any bad snowstorms here yet just a little snow and some ice. But it has so far gotten warm enough the next day to melt most if not all the stuff on the ground. Hope that helps.

Thanks. It does help. I'll try to keep a better eye out too on the weather channel. Just not enough time in a day.

right, right, bread cutters! that's it. you'd think i would've come up with that on my own. oh well.

ok, shmu, tell me how your apple pie comes out! i think you should post a picture of it on your pre trip report!!! :rotfl: :rotfl2: it's the only chance i have of being famous!:lmao:

whgrn and dreamin in pa loved the pictures.

dreamin in pa good luck with the family trip.

The only thing I can do with apple pies is eat them.

Shmu---I live about 90 min north of Baltimore. Here---Fri is 48 high. Sat is sunny and 32 high. Sun's high is 41 but maybe snow showers. It should not be bad. It's warmer in MD. The ice on my street turned to slush today and will probably melt tomorrow but of course they treat interstates with stuff for freezing and they got plowed. We only had 2 hr delay for school---Dreamin must have had more ice.

No problem, don't be sorry.:) We ended up just getting a lighter weight stroller for DS and taking the older small stroller we already had for DD. Hubby really didn't want to spend over $100 for the sit-n-stand types and he was concerned with getting on and off the buses with it. Since my parents were with us, we often had help getting around with 2 kids and 2 strollers, so it wasn't bad.

WHat did you decide about trying BE make-up?

Our trip was great. It was hotter and more crowded than expected. I had read on the boards before we left that a lot of Louisiana folks go that time of year, since the kids are out of school for Mardi Gras. Boy, they were not kidding! It seemed like half the state was there, you could tell because they all had on their LSU shirts. We were there on Fat Tuesday, and random people would just walk up and hand you beads. (You didn't even have to flash 'em or anything.:rotfl: )

Since it was so hot and crowded we did some things different this trip. We did Carousel of Progress and TTA since there was no wait and they were cool. DD had never done those and she liked both. She also did Goofy's Barnstormer, Haunted Mansion and Tomorrowland Speedway for the first time. SHe screamed at the top of her lungs on GB and buried her face in my lap for most of HM, but got off of both very excited and said she wanted to go again.

Now I'm thinking of all this stuff I want to write about. Maybe I should just take the plunge and do a trip report. But would anybody read it? That would be embarrassing if nobody read it.

Gotta go for now.

Later killers!

Wow, I love the pictures. Very cute fur babies!!!

whgrn - You don't look a day over 26. ;)

well, WE would read it of course!!!! Go for it!:thumbsup2

AUdisfan...you should totally write a TR, especially with little ones. There are so many little moments that you should get down so when you look back you can relive all the memories. Of course, we'd read it along with you! Btw, my BF's absolute favorite thing at WDW is Carousel of Progress--its so nostalgic and a nice respite from the crazy crowds and heat while at the park.

dreamin...power outage! wow, you must have gotten a lot of ice where you are. I totally understand trying to find the right family dynamic. Too bad SOME people can't see the larger picture about what a wonderful experience this will be for others-especially the kids. But there's still time and if need be, WDW is a large place. You can always run and hide.

magsnden...thanks for the link! I totally am drooling over the mango kitchenaid. Ah, I am fantasizing about the baked goods I could make. Sadly, I don't think marriage is in my path, let alone gift registries. See, my BF has CP and had disability benefits. If we were to marry, he would lose those benefits and be under my insurance. But the benefits he gets from the state are far more comprehensive and I could never ask him to give up those for me. I read a TR by another couple (he has CP) and they're in the same situation. Its sad, but I have a wonderful life and although I would love to be recognized by the Church and the state, its just something I have to dream about for me in another life.

I'll just have to start a kitchenaid piggy bank.

Sorry to make this sad. Let's go back to apple pie. Mmm...

Back again...whgrn, we must have posted at the same time! I'm the one with the purple scarf with my hair pulled back and black pullover.

Oh, you guys should read the TK thread on the budget board---its like deja vu! They're banding together, making friends, complaining about the Tag Fairy. Its so much fun to watch! But I've backed off and come back to my own TKer family. I hope they find the friendships we have.

OK, I'm gonna totally go out on a limb here, but this is what I think...

Yes, a marriage recognized by the Church would be wonderful, but the loss of BF's benefits would not be worth it. But if that is really the only thing standing in your way, then you should go for it in every way other than the legal marriage certificate! I am certain your friends and family would understand the situation. And perhaps even your pastor would help you out. Can't you "get married" WITHOUT a license, WITHOUT making it "legal"?? You would be married in all the ways that matter, you just wouldn't lose the benefits for BF, and you wouldn't have to pay the marriage penalty in your taxes!! Then, you write up a will and a durable power of attorney that gives each of you the same rights that a spouse would have to make decisions about health care, finanaces, etc. If you are totally committed to each other, then why should you suffer because of a silly government beaurocracy???

GO FOR IT!!!!:bride:

Oh whgrn, we have talked about it and have thought along these same lines. Right now, we're just testing the waters but its definitely on the table. I have a cousin in the seminary who would be willing to perform a marriage ceremony down the line. We kinda approach our situation like the ones that our gay friends face. We'd like to have some sort of commitment ceremony, maybe even a "honeymoon" at Disney! But that's a bit off in the future right now but thanks for the encouragement!

Magikitty - pixiedust: I sure hope that one day you can make your dream come true. Just know that married or not, we still love ya here!

AUdisfan - We'll read your trip report. Go for it!:thumbsup2

Dreamin - Sorry I don't have any experiece w/ large family vacations. Good Luck! Doesn't Disney have group vacations reservation people who could help you w/ this? Just a thought.

Still can't get my picture posted. Can't a an http address. I've tried copy and paste w/ no luck. :headache: Any ideas????

DH and I couldn't get married in the Church(he's Catholic and I'm Methodist)
so we eloped and got married by a Baptist minister:lmao:
I agree with a commitment ceremony:thumbsup2 with a legal consult so you are allowed to make joint decisions(medical and others for each other) and share property. It's a sad state of affairs when insurance companies decide people's fate.

Did I see ya'll talking earlier about "pastry cutters" for making pie dough. My Mom taught me to cut in the butter/shortening with 2 knives when I was little. I use a food processor now-you only have to pulse it a couple of times(not much more or it heats up the dough). It works great! Heck, Martha does it that way now too. It's a Good thing:rolleyes1

Mmmmmmpie!
I'm on the Disney Diet right now so no pie in my future.:sad2: :sad1:
I'm gaining weight just reading the posts.
Gotta got help burn a CD for DD Valentine's Day Party.(need a smilie twirling a finger)Yipee.

I thought we were lost. Got to yesterdays posts...where are the Killers? Moved again? Then looked at the clock...gotta get to bed but not sleepy. Can I have a drink of water???? :surfweb: It must have been the chocolate drizzled popcorn I ate that is not on my diet...:hyper: I'll pay for it at the scales too but boy was it good. A friend brought it from NYC.

:flower3:  :flower3: Love is in the air...
