Thread for Airmiles Collectors

Did bank of Montreal do away with giving airmiles for banking transactions? In Ontario it seems to get harder and harder to collect them.

FYI - they just changed the way they pay out airmiles. It is now on debit card transactions and some other stuff. More info can be found at bmo.com but long story short, they still offer.

Also - in case anyone is not aware, you can get a Mastercard with 1 airmile per $15 spent - it has an annual fee but for us it is worth it to get more miles.

ANd finally - just went to the airmiles site and disneyshopping website is an airmiles sponsor - meaning you can get airmiles from shopping online if accessed through the airmiles site. There is also a bonus 25 miles for first purchase. Cool :)

:thumbsup2 Subbing in! This thread rocks, thanks for the great info!

I truly find airmiles is a MUCH better deal when purchasing items other than flights. .

That's why the program works for all of us, there are lots of options.

BUT if you start removing options it doesn't work for everybody.
I totally agree that if you live in Toronto you can get cheaper flights if you don't mind driving to Buffalo or Detroit. Those cheaper fares can/will sometimes be cheaper then the fees for the Airmiles flights.

BUT for lots of us, meaning not within reasonable driving distance of a major airport in the US, flights to MCO are often expensive. The last time I booked flights from Saskatoon to Orlando the total/person on a seat sale was $600, and average $850 not on a seat sale!

Now if I can use Airmiles, and my BMO Westjet CC (which I found out today they are discontinueing BOOOOOO!) I only needed 1400 or 1600 Airmiles to get to Orlando from Saskatoon.

So this is the way I look at it -
A 5 DAY Adult Base ticket to WDW is 2105 Airmiles
Retail Value from WDW inculding taxes is $228.98
$228.98/2105=11 cents/Airmile

An Average flight from Saskatoon to Orlando $850
Taxes/Fees on an Airmiles flight $178.00
$850-$178=$672, $178 because that's the out of pocket cost and $672 is my estimated savings.
$672/1600=42 cents/Airmile

For me the real value is in the flights, but if they remove Westjet and the BMO program I may look into collecting Aeroplan pts!

WOW...so how many miles was that total?
Hi ado121:
It was quite a few airmiles, but my husband and I are celebrating our 25th anniversary. So to us worth them all.
Here's the breakdown:
flights 4400AM
cruise 4319 (ocean view)
Best Western gift cards 5250 plus I had purchased some a while when they were on sale (my son plays hockey so it was good to have around the house for those tournaments)
sea world 1120
7 day base 4340
The total was....19429 AM
So we just need spending money and food. Oh yah and a rental car (we are still deciding on this though as we are staying at Best Western Lake Buena Vista) and not sure if we really need it or not.
Any suggestions on that plz.

yeah! i love this thread! i am a self-confessed air miles addict!

we need about 7000 miles for 4 7 day passes. i have 3500 right now. we are going in december so i give myself til october to collect enough.

i only grocery shop at safeway (minus costco runs, and fruit and vegs at the local market 1 time per week)

we are lucky as our safeway is frequent with the bonus miles. i always stock up on stuff thats only on sale...$300 gets you 300 points!

we buy our books online too. thru the airmiles site. got myself 50 points last time!

Another Winnipegger who does the Extreme airmiles. I have enough for 4 flights plus both US and PH passes for a family of 4. Starting to work on earning some for our resort.

I don't have it handy but I did get a quote for a 12 night stay at the ASMo during value season. It was approximately 700-800 Airmiles a night.
Very sad to see Airmiles and Westjet part company. :sad2:

I was quoted 7400 Airmiles for 9 nights in January (value season) at one of the All Star resorts.

Hello,
I now have enough air miles to get tickets for Universal/IOA and Seaworld, but we're also thinking of going to Aquatica, and I'm wondering whether Air Miles will add a combination ticket for Seaworld and Aquatica, after it opens. Does anyone know the answer to this? If so, I wonder if they'll add this option in March or wait a while? I need to get my tickets fairly soon, as we're leaving on April 30. How long have you all waited to receive tickets from Air Miles after you have ordered them?
Thanks!!

Actually, I just phoned Air Miles, and they said that they don't know whether or not there will be an Aquatica ticket and that if they do, it may be when the Seaworld contract expires. I think I will wait to order my Seaworld and Universal tickets until March, just in case they do add Aquatica right after it opens. Air Miles said to give two weeks to receive tickets from them. Have you received tickets from them in about two weeks?

When I ordered WDW 5 day passes in December 2007, Purolator showed up 2 days later with our passes. I could not believe how quickly they arrived. They do caution it may take up to 3 weeks or so, when you redeem them.

I wonder if my quote for 3300 miles must have been for less days than I realized? I need to e-mail the person I was speaking to. I was sure I had asked for 6 nights.
