Who else on the Canadian board collects Airmiles and uses them towards Disney?

For my Jan 08 trip, I had planned to use our miles to fly my family to Florida, but after taxes and fees and insurance, it was almost equal to paying cash. So instead, we used our miles for Disney 5 day passes and and now I'm even more addicted to Airmiles.

This time, I plan to use our miles for both WDW passes and our WDW hotel. I saw they were offering packages through Holiday House so I called and was quoted 3300 miles for a 6 night stay at All Star Movies. (hotel only for that quote) I'm waiting to hear back on my quote for a moderate or deluxe resort.

I would love if we could start a thread for everyone to post their Airmiles deals, both collecting them and redeeming them for Disney World.

I heard that the airmiles is a waste for flights. I am saving to use towards tickets for a future trip, and fly from Buffalo cheap airfare.
I love to shop at the Barn/A&P when they have double bonus airmiles. 1 time i received 75 airmiles in a single shopping trip.

Hi FLVacationGirl

I collect Airmiles and have taken at least 6 trips to Florida and 1 trip to BC using them ::yes::

My current booking is for Nov 29-Dec 7, 2008 and because I have a WestJet Mosaic Mastercard I managed to secure two round-trip tickets from Toronto to Orlando for a total of 2800 airmiles :thumbsup2

The fee's and Taxes on these 2 tickets were $393 ($196.50 each)

The current price to book the two tickets using cash only is $1164.18 :scared1:

I know there are seat sales, but often they are for mid-week departures :confused3

I wanted a Saturday flight out and a Sunday return.

I will soon be and have previously flown from Buffalo (not using Airmiles)

My upcoming trip in March is from Buffalo and even with a seat sale, the cost for 3 of us was $846.57US or $282.19US each - leaving on a Wednesday and returning on a Friday

I collect airmiles by using my airmiles credit card and shopping at A&P, Shell , GlobalPet sponsors and also pay some household bills using the credit cards (they have to be paid anyway, so why not use the credit card to gain airmiles) :)

I usually shop when there are bonus airmiles to be had (recently A&P were offering 30 airmiles per $60 transaction) :thumbsup2

Hope this info helps :flower3:

Yay! Fellow airmiles collectors. :)

I need to get a Mosaik card because then the miles you need per flight, drop by 50% in most cases and you get to fly Westjet. Those seats fill up fast though.

One great thing about being in Winnipeg, is that our Safeways almost always offers Extreme Airmiles. Spent $100, get 150 airmiles on average. Sometimes, it goes up to 250 or 300 miles per $100 spent. You can call Safeway to see which store in the city is offering the most miles, or check their website.

I just planned my next grocery trip to Safeway, and I'll spend $200 and get 805 airmiles. That's using extreme airmiles plus a few of the 'buy 5, get 50 airmiles' product promos plus an e-mail offer for 10x the base airmiles. It's more fun grocery shopping when you know you are closer to getting back to Disney. :)

If anyone else books through Airmiles and Holiday House, can you post how many miles you end up using please? Their page on the rewards section was kind of confusing. One very nice thing is that apparently you can use your miles to pay for your pass and hotel and then you can pay cash and actually get a dining plan too. I'm still awaiting a reply from one of their reps and hopefully will have more info soon.

I also collect Airmiles and use them for flights. Being from Saskatoon it's really expensive to fly anywhere and it's not a short drive to cheaper airfares. With the BMO Westjet card, 1400 or 1600 airmiles it's a great deal for us to fly to LAX or MCO. Over the last 12 years I've used my airmiles for 16 flights and have enough for 3 more flights.

Awesome deal..... I wish that they had grocery stores that had the Extreme Airmiles in Ontario

Then I'd be going to Disney 3 times a year :lmao:

yeah! i love this thread! i am a self-confessed air miles addict!

we need about 7000 miles for 4 7 day passes. i have 3500 right now. we are going in december so i give myself til october to collect enough.

i only grocery shop at safeway (minus costco runs, and fruit and vegs at the local market 1 time per week)

we are lucky as our safeway is frequent with the bonus miles. i always stock up on stuff thats only on sale...$300 gets you 300 points!

we buy our books online too. thru the airmiles site. got myself 50 points last time!

sign up for the email from safeway using safeway direct and you get a coupon this week for 10 times base miles. for over $35 of purchases!

good deal!

Either I haven't been paying attention or Airmiles is better in the west. I try not to shop in our local AP because the prices are usually higher and getting the airmiles just doesn't make up the difference. When they have a really good airmile event on I will but I've never heard of extreme airmile deals.

That being said we do use our MC to pay almost everything just to get the airmiles and am saving for Seaworld tickets for our next vacation.

being from Northern BC, Airmiles flights are a real bargain for us. 1600 aimiles to Orlando... I can collect that in just a few months. We fly to MCO on April 29, 4 of us for $800. Even with the current seat sale, we would be looking at $3300 for plane tickets if we bought them.

We shop at Safeway and have the Mosaik Gold card

Airmile addict here! We only use our Airmiles for Park Passes and then upgrade them to Annual passes. As we are DVC members, it's not much at all. I gather up all the airmiles I need primarily from Safeway. We have received 15 park passes that we've upgraded and am already on 3 more upcoming. Using airmiles for flights out of wpg does not pay. I would rather get the straight cash value of the park passes.

I have been collecting Airmails for almost 16 years we get most of our Airmails by shopping at Sobeys we have used them for best western gift certificates that we used to pay for 5 nights hotel on our unplanned DL trip and for 2 days car rental on our last WDW trip . I am hoping to have enough to cover park tickets for our next trip in a couple years I may buy a new computer from dell to help boost my total

Did bank of Montreal do away with giving airmiles for banking transactions? In Ontario it seems to get harder and harder to collect them.

I have an airmiles AMEX and use it for everything, then just come home and pay it from my bank account the same day. I have loaded up on airmiles that way too!

We collect airmiles on our Gold Mosaik credit card. We only use that one credit card. Collecting airmiles is almost like an addiction. Then we blow it all on our DL passes every year.

Then I upgrade the tickets to annual pass for about $40 and get two trips out of it and enough time to do it again in two years!

How many points are needed to buy a park pass. Knowing you can upgrade it to a AP has me interested. Just too lazy to go on Air miles site and thought you may know the points needed. We are thinking about using our points for lift tickets at Marble Mountain since we are heading there for March Break. May hold onto them for DW instead. Thanks Joan

If we get a 7 day hopper pass (with no expiry) via airmiles, are we able to upgrade it to a 10 day hopper?
