Nine women dined at the Yachtsman Sunday Sept 11. We were on the dining plan. We checked in for our 7:30pm ressie promptly and were seated in about 10mins. The hostess was very nice and took our photo while we were waiting.

They seated us at a large round table just as you enter the restaurant. A few minutes later Linda the waitress showed up. Seemed very nice. Asked us our drink order. Mostly our group ordered tea or soda. I wanted wine and had a few questions. She offered to let me have a taste. She brought my taste, I decided on that bottle. She delivers the first round of drinks and the wine.

She took our appetizer and dinner orders. A while later the drinks showed up, probably 3-4mins. We chatted some members finished there drinks. No Linda. Another 3-4mins go by no Linda. When she finally shows I ask if our drinks can be refilled....she removes the dirty glasses and disappears. No drinks, No drinks...about 5mins go by and she tells us someone will be bringing us our drinks. 3-4 mins we get the refills.

The food runner brings the appetizers. No Linda. As far as I can tell she has 1 other table. 5 mins...we are pretty much finished the apps and she checks to see if everything is alright.

Food runner brings entrees. No Linda. No refills. Have to ask again for more refills. 3-4 mins another round of tea and soda appears. Now we have been here almost and 1.5 and she have only filled the glasses 3 times .they are very small glasses and probably could have been refilled more.

Dinner goes well. But No Linda. Then somebody removes our plates.

She comes back and offers dessert. All 9 order some sort of dessert. She helps deliver the order. One of us orders wrong but she has the right item because she made a mistake on another person’s dessert. So, 8 of us were served dessert. The 9th ordered a slice of cheesecake. The other 8 finish their desserts before the 9th is finally served their cheesecake. She decides to take it home as we have know been at the restaurant about 2 hrs and its 9:30pm. The manager walks by and I ask him for a box stating that everything else seems at least 10mins to get and we’d like to be on our way.

The manager brings out the box immediately. Then Linda returns to the table and bends down and tells my friend….”Well you never asked me for a box, why did you say it took over 10mins.” Guess the manager misunderstood that everything was taking way to long not just getting a box. We request the check.

We hand her 3 room cards for the dining plans as there are 3 of us per room. She looks at us and say 3 cards….Yeah….what ya think they put 9 gals in one room. She gave us a nasty look. 10+ mins later she finally brings the room charges back to be signed. We are highly irritated at this point….to bad she is guaranteed a tip because we are over 8 people.

We decide to complain at more length to the manager as we leave. Everyone gets up to leave but me. You see my bottle of wine was on a separate bill that she never brought when she dropped the others off…so I wait….I’m tempted just to leave but she has my DDE card, and I don’t want to sacrifice the card for bad service. As our group is departing one of us recognizes a waiter they had at the Yachtsman last week when she was there with her husband. No personality Linda speaks up and says….are you staying at the Yacht and Beach…in sort of a stunned tone……HMMM would it have made a difference.

I finally ask her for my DDE card…darn she bring the check too…….I give her a 10% tip….my friend who stayed and waited with me says I shouldn’t have left anything.

Well I get up to leave, the rest of the gals are bending the mangers ear. Linda sees this and proceeds to join the discussion and argues with us that we didn’t wait for anything. Fortunately the manager asks her to leave the area. She listens. He says it is not because we are women or using the dining plan…Maybe but my argument is that we have all eaten at Disney’s top restaurants Yachtsman included and this was by far the worst service any of us have received.

So, my closing thoughts are the food at the Yachtsman is wonderful. If you get Linda as a server. You may want to consider running for the hills.

Isn't it amazing how bad service can completely taint a view of a restaurant? My mom to this day refuses to dine at Le Cellier because a waiter was snotty and rude to her and her party a few years back - we will likely never dine there because of it.

We ate at Yachtsman in May and thankfully did NOT have Linda and had a great meal with great service. I'm sorry you had to mess with that, but so glad you spoke up! So many people come back here to complain but don't do anything about it then. I hope she improves her "service."

Funny you mention LeCellier....the night before we had the most amazing and fun waiter...we ended up closing the place down...it was his last night before returning to Canada......We loved every minute of our LeCellier experience...food and service..

Luckily we have always had incredible service at YSH. Last time was efficient but not very friendly.

During my wedding reception there one of the servers spilled the juice on a plate right onto my Mom's suit. The restaurant went out of their way to take care of it and have it cleaned. Unfortunately the stain didn't come out of the skirt. They reinbursed my Mom for the cost of her suit.

We love Yachtsman and go on everytrip. There is a server named Oscar who has been there forever. On a trip 3 years ago, we had a young man named Zack. Now he stops at out table everytime we come in and makes sure we have everything we need. There are great servers at the Yachtsman and I am sorry to here the ladies did not have one of them.

We've been to the Yachtsmen a few times as well. The first time, my DD and I had the prime rib. Really awful. We didn't complain (my hubbie loved his steak). Had a really nice waiter. Otherwise, the service was excellent and the desserts really good.

I was put off with the prime rib, but my hubbie insisted we try again on our next trip. Got the same waiter (who remembered us!) and I told him about the prime rib the last time (about a year before). He said we should have said something and always asked us this time if everything was good and if he could do anything else...

So, on an adults-only night, hubbie wanted to return. We were a bit early and were told to go to the bar and they'd call us. Guess what? They never did! After about 20-30 minutes past our real reservation time, I went to the podium and asked. Sure enough, our 'card' was on the top of the podium on the side. The 'greeter' was new... The apologized, but didn't do much...

I think we had Linda as a waitress. She wasn't very good, to be sure. Disappeared pretty often and it took forever to get our food.

So yes, the waiter can make a huge difference. We were disappointed and I will rethink going back from the last stupidity (between the waiting, new servers, etc.) If we had that other waiter, I think the experience would have been a lot different.

Oh my goodness! What a horrible experience. It's bad enough the service was bad but to have her argue about it. Yikes! We have eaten at YSH twice and had wonderful service both times. I think we may have had the above mentioned Zack last time. I'm going back in December with my Mother and I will be sure to watch out if we get Linda. ;)

We're eating there in two weeks and if anyone named Linda comes anywhere near my table I'll ask to be moved! Not only a bad waitress but had the nerve to argue about it in front of the customer. I admire your ability to be as nice about it as you were.

That's too bad about the Yachtsman. Hopefully Linda has been reassigned to clearing tables at the All Star's food court instead of dealing hands-on with people. Then nobody will have to deal with her poor service!

A good server would never let the drinks run low much less be empty.

I'm glad that you complained. I can't believe that she argued with customers about her level of service. Totally inappropriate and unprofessional.

When we go in Dec., I'll be sure to ask for Oscar.

Lori

Sorry to hear of such bad service at the Yachtsman. Please consider returning for another try - but this time ask for Oscar as your server. Your exerience will be much better!

Just wanted to state the waiter that the person from our group had the weekend before with her hubbie was Oscar....He definately sounds like a keeper....

I will definately try the Yachtsman again....the food was to die for...

Unless you told Missing Linda when you sat down that you would be using the MYW Dining Plan, I would have to agree with the manager that this was not the reason for your poor service. And the manager was right to make her leave the area while you all were discussing her.
It's two things - one, Linda. As somebody else said, maybe she's been reassigned by now, with any luck to an entirely different facility. Two - despite the manager's claim, I wouldn't be surprised if at least some of the reason for your poor experience was that you were a party full of women. I mean, don't we all know that women are stingier tippers than men? :rolleyes1: NOT!
Um, one thing I did notice - you really didn't mention the food at all! I know the purpose of your post was to relate your overall experience, but - except for soft drinks, wine and a slice of cheesecake, we have no idea what any of the nine of you ate or how it was! :)

1. Yes we told her when we sat down that we were on the dining plan, we wanted to know if anything was excluded before we started ordering.

2. I had Lobster and Fillet that was magnificent, Caesar Salad to start and key lime pie to finish....All were absolute fantastic...

Most of our table had some sort of steak, appetizer's varied, and various desserts.....there weren't any complaints about any of the food we got....thumbs up for the food..
