Thoughts on Security searches?

This is the direction I tend to lean too.
I find it incredibly frustrating to wait in line while bags are checked especially if there is no way around the putsy stuff when I'm not even carrying a bag. It's probably on a par with having to wait in lines for rides with me. I hate it, detest it and avoid it at all costs.
The gates at Epcot seem to be the worst. MGM and the MK have the "no bags" entrance whereas I haven't found those entry areas at Epcot, to my great frustration. LOL

.
I agree. Waste of time. The plain clothes guards throughout the parks are probably much more effective at protecting guests...

:disrocks: I am glad that they have security checks. In a retail store - do you ever complain about a cashier checking your credit card for a signature match? Don't - it's for your own safety.

Anything done to keep us safe is not a waste of even one second. The security people, I'm sure, collect vibes from people while searching their bags. These people are trained, so trust them.

Do they keep us safe? A terrorist could walk in through the no bag line and have explosives or a gun on his person. If someone is going to do something, they are not going to be so stupid to put it in a bag that will be checked. The 9/11 highjackers flew on the same flights for "test runs" to plot their strategy. I'm sure they would learn pretty fast not to put something in a bag and to head for the no bag line. I'm not complaining about the wait, I just wish if they are going to do it, they would make it more effective. My local amusement park has had metal detectors at the gates for years, you pass through it after the turnstile, you don't even notice it unless it goes off.

The bag checks and the finger scanning slows down the crowds entering the parks.
There are many undercover security people watching us as we enter the parks. When the guests are slowed down it gives security a good chance to "look" us over.

If you know where to look you would see all kinds of "hidden" security cameras.
I have seen more of those cameras in the parks then anywhere I have vacationed except maybe with the exception of Vegas.

Since 9/11 WDW is a no fly zone.
Disney has spent mega bucks on security since 9/11 and it would not surprise me at all if along with those Bioscans Disney has or will have in near future. Security devices such as Bomb-sniffing technology (there are polymer devices already in use that can pick up on tiny trace amounts of explosive vapors from over 20 feet away).Or the full body backscatter X-ray (which has already been tested at the Orlando airport).

Just remember for every security person you see there are probably 3 more undercover that you do not see!
I think Disney only wants us to see the tip of the iceberg thus the bag checks. :thumbsup2

We just returned from a few days at the "other parks" in Orlando (everyone is NOT kidding about how WDW ruins you for all other places...there is NO comparison)..anyway... we waltzed right in on a number of occasions with NO security what-so-ever. I did not even notice any security personnel walking around inside the parks...in case someone wanted to ask a question, for instance. I was amazed....or more like annoyed I guess ! The only security I saw was as you LEAVE ! I guess to make sure you don't leave with alcohol or totally drunk.
