Thoughts on 'Ohana timing

We have reservations for 'Ohana at 7:50 and would like to be at BLT for fireworks at 9:30. With three adults in the party (no children), how long do you think the average meal takes there?

We're Disney vets, but I can't decide whether to take the chance or not. I know it would cut it close, I'm just not sure HOW close. Thoughts appreciated!

I went back and looked at the time stamps on my pictures from our dinner there in April - ADR was for 5:20 p.m.

-Picture of the waiting area that I took right after we checked in: 5:12 p.m.
-Our table as we were seated: 5:25 p.m.
-Restaurant sign board up by the monorail that I took on the way out from dinner: 6:26 p.m.

So just about an hour and 15 from checking in to being back at the monorail.

I wonder if with a later reservation you may have a bit longer wait to get seated - they may be more backed up vs. the time we were there, which was closer to opening. Also worth noting, the restaurant wasn't too full when we were there so the meats came around pretty quickly and we didn't get seconds.

HTH:goodvibes

It's going to be *very* close. My wife and I have eaten there a dozen times. The shortest meal was 50 minutes, but that was a 9:30 reservation. Most of the time, we've spent 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes. Add to that the typical 10-15 minutes past reservation time seating we experience every time we eat at 'Ohana, the wait for the monorail to take you to the Contemporary, with a stop at GF and MK first, and then the walk from Contemporary to BLT... I wouldn't hold out much hope.

My advice would be to keep the 'Ohana reservation and look at your watch as you walk out of the restaurant. If it's after 9:10pm, watch the fireworks from the Poly's beach.

We love this restaurant, but can never get reservations. How did you do it?

I just got an ADR today for early Nov. I have been checking a few times each day in Online res and the Nov Cancellation thread on this board.

I actually saw an 'Ohana dinner ADR come up early this morning but not for a day that would work for us without doing some major rearranging to our other ADRs. Then at lunch I looked again and there was a 5:15 ADR for the day we wanted. I just had to go look at the print out of the e-mail again a little while ago - I still can't believe it. :yay:

What are my chances of getting a table for 2 at O'hana with no reservation? We like to eat early dinner. The only time we have eaten at O'hana, we had a 5pm reservation and there was a standby line. They were seating people with no reservation.

Hit or miss. The standby line has always been very long at opening. Worst case scenario would be have dinner at Kona if not availability at O'hana. Food is delicious and you rarely need an ADR.:goodvibes

Thanks for the suggestion. Do you know if Kona serves that delicious bread pudding that O'hana serves? That is one of the things I love at O'hana.

No. Kona does not have the bread pudding. I know how addicting O'hana's breading pudding is!:) Here is Kona's menu. Like I mentioned, their food is delicious, including desserts. O'hana may work out. If it does not, I doubt you will be disappointed in Kona.

If you get seated at your ADR time I think you should be able to make it but we have never gotten seated at our ADR time. The last trip they were 45 minutes behind. We have always had to wait at least 20 minutes past our ADR time. It is only my husband and I so we were not waiting for one of the large table to open up.

From our experiences- I think the problem here is going to be the wait. I know some people swear that arriving early helps combat that, but we've never found that it's done much. i.e. we've always waited at least 20 min past our ADR time, sometimes more. i.e. you might not be seated until close to 8:30p. I think you can still make it in time, and you might try arriving early in case it works for you, but it's going to be close.

Thanks for your feedback, everyone. For what it's worth, we kept the 7:50 ADR and got to 'Ohana about about 7:30. Despite a long line of people waiting, they seated us within 10 minutes, we enjoyed a leisurely (and delicious!) meal (with seconds!) and made it to BLT with time to spare (we got there at about 9:10).

We got very lucky in a lot of ways this trip in regards to timing, and I'm glad I didn't cancel the reservation!

Thanks again!

PS - to those wondering about walk up reservations for a party of 2, we got there later than your desired time, but they weren't accepting any walk ins at that time. I heard them turning people away. I would, however, continue checking - I changed my time at least 6 times because I was checking it so often and getting closer to the time we wanted!
