Thoughts on Immigration from a Teacher's Husband

So, you want to post a letter written by someone else, full of innuendos and half-truths to sum up your thoughts on immigration. And then you are surprised when people dispute the letter and the "facts" offered therein?

I appreciate you posting this. I have not made up my mind one way or the other with our current immigration issues we are having. I do see both sides of the argument having their good point & their totally idiotic points.

As a rule of thumb, I ignore anything I read anywhere, especially if it said to be the TRUTH, that is not signed by a Author. In 100 % of the cases these anonymous writings are always lies. Please BEWARE of ANONYMUS emails, Internet postings, etc. You may agree or not agree with them. However they are not the truth.

Also please note this same email went out years ago...only it was Titled "Thoughts on Welfare from a Teachers Husband"

Just as a side note, maybe someone here can help me understand this. Yes, there are many illegal aliens in this country. Yes the govt is cracking down on them. What I dont' understand is WHY DONT THE GOVERNMENT CRACK DOWN ON THE ENTITYS HIRING ILLEGAL ALIENS??? They are actually American citizens who are breaking the Law!

On a very personal note! No ONE in this Country should EVER NEVER have any problem with ANY CHILD getting free food ANYWHERE!

Now....back to the lighter side of life......

My wife tells me that 100% of the students in her school and other Title 1 schools are on the free breakfast,
free lunch program. When I say free breakfast I' m not talking a glass of milk and roll... but a full breakfast and cereal bar with fruits and juices that would make a Marriott proud. The waste of this food is monumental, with trays and trays of it being dumped in the trash uneaten. She estimates that well over 50% of these students are obese or at least moderately overweight. About 75% or more DO have cell phones.

Sounds like days end @ WDW, during FREE Dining days!

A few thoughts.

1. Most individuals here illegally know full well that they have zero chance of ever getting here legally. To all of you who take the copout road and say things like "I'm in favor of LEGAL immigration" ... short of being sponsored by big business (a five-figure cost on that one) or marrying, it's virtually impossible to get into this country. I dated a college-educated, white, healthy, native-English speaking athletic scholarship recipient (University of Arkansas) from an underrepresented country (New Zealand), and he cannot become a legal immigrant to the US. He's put over $4K into immigration lawyers and he still couldn't get an extension on his visa - and he has a full-time job. He goes back to NZ this summer. Do you all honestly think that fourth-grade educated window washers from Tijuana believe that they have any chance of getting here legally? They don't. Can we legitimately blame them for running over the border and trying to salvage any kind of meaningful life where their kids are fed? I can't. If I were 18, and Mexican, and female, and living in a mud hut in Guadalajara, I'd be swimming the Rio Grande so fast that heads would spin, enchanted by the prospect of earning seven U.S. dollars per hour dishwashing. I cannot blame people for doing exactly the same thing I would do.

2. They don't bother me. I'm not in the running for a dishwashing, housepainting, or manicuring job. To be brutally honest, I come from nothing. I have first-generation parents who had a painful divorce and then my father went to prison. There was no money, but there was abundant opportunity to improve my lot. This may be the only country in the world where people can improve their class/socioeconomic lot based on consistent work and scholarships. (OK, maybe Canada). In a country that gave me scholarships from Coke and Hilton and the State of New Jersey, and where I managed to earn enough to pay out my mother's mortgage two years' out of school, where I bought a house at 25 ... this country has given me so much opportunity. I'm not going to fault those born elsewhere for exactly the same hope, and dream, especially while I haven't had difficulty finding a job and I wasn't displaced by non-English-speakers ... to be honest, I paid $6.95 for a seared tuna appetizer tonight and I know that it was the hard work of illegals in the kitchen that kept the price down ... and ...

3. I'm still trying to figure out what a "*****" is, from the original post. Five stars and an s? It's not the obvious one that begins with b because as that would have an -es, if it were spelled properly ... it's not the ones that begin with c or with f or a or s ...

That would be too easy, wouldn't it? ;) :teeth: As long as American companies/employers continue to hire illegal immigrants, there will be no change. :sad2:

Dana, it is the "b" word (plural form). That is the correct spelling.

The biggest backers of illegal immigration are corporate America and the small business owner who wants sympathy because he/she can't make a profit if they pay their roofers, tilers, gardeners, waiters, waitresses, cooks, maids, meat cutters, packers, etc. a living wage.

In addition, the biggest snow job over a guest worker program comes from the WH. Remember Bush's favorite phrase: "Illegal immigrants are doing the jobs Americans just won't do." Americans are not only willing to do those jobs, they already do those jobs. Just not for a bag of rice and a pork chop.

And the Dems don't want them for their votes right? Both sides are using these people for all the wrong reasons.

ok

1. Im sorry your friend has had such trouble, but i dont think its right to make the immigration process too easy. At the same time, just because your family is hungry, doesnt mean you should steal from the grocery store to feed them. People do become citizens and it takes time.

2. I agree

3. The letter said W-o-es, but i always thought that word was the B word.

That entire email makes my stomach churn.

I teach in a school that has 80% on free and reduced lunch. Our entire budget for a school of 800, including all of the salaries, is far less than $700,000. Yes, we must spend all monies by a certain date or we do lose the money. These are the laws of the land and all schools must abide by these laws.

Now for our student population make-up: 47% White, 41% Hispanic, 10% Asian, 2% African American. We estimate that about 20% of our Hispanic students are illegal immigrants. We also estimate that 10% of our white students are illegal immigrants from Eastern Europe.

Half of which, one month later, have been carved with graffiti by the appreciative students who obviously feel humbled and grateful to have a free education in America
Like many schools in recent weeks, we have had our share of instances of students not being very kind to one another because of the demonstrations. There was a lot of damage done from graffiti and vandalism because of the political unrest that is pouring into the schools because of the demonstrations. Everyone of the students caught vandalizing our school with graffiti were white students writing racist comments about the Hispanic students.

but a full breakfast and cereal bar with fruits and juices that would make a Marriott proud. The waste of this food is monumental, with trays and trays of it being dumped in the trash uneaten.

The free breakfast consist of cereal, a banana, apple, or orange, a milk, and a small carton of juice you can down in one gulp. I wouldn't want to stay at the Marriott that serves this for their breakfast.

The school also provides day care centers for the unwed teenage pregnant girls (some as young as 13) so they can attend class without the inconvenience of having to arrange for babysitters or having

So should we throw these children out on the streets without an education? What becomes of them then? They become uneducated parents that have no means to support themselves or their children. So who then does support the children. Oh, and it's not only illegal immigrant 13-y/o becoming pregnant. I've had a few pregnant 13 y/o in my classes over the years and I can guarantee they weren't illegal.

It does, however, have everything to do with culture. A third-world culture that does not value education, that accepts children getting pregnant and dropping out of school by 15 and that

If they don't value education, why do they come here and enroll their children in school ASAP?

Finally, please notice I stated that we estimate the percentage of students we have who are illegal immigrants. Schools cannot ask if a child is here in this country legally or illegally. So my question is, how would the person who wrote this misinformed email know that the "problem" students are illegal immigrants?

Rita: might want to check that again, pretty sure it isn't the correct plural.

Wake up America!!!

Stuff like that disgusts me. It's amazing that in 2006 people STILL think they can paint a picture of an entire "culture" with a stroke of the brush.

Absolutely disgusting. :sad2:

INS can't do anything because INS no longer exists as an agency. It was a post-September 11 casualty.

Thank you! If I saw the phrase INS on here one more time...How can you be all up in arms about immigration and not even know the agencies that deal with it?

Hey thanks for missing the point.

Doesnt matter if theyre hard working, have ambition and learn english or wear a party hat. If theyre here ILLEGALLY i dont care what color, height, sex or age you are. GET OUT.

Because these people who are protesting, dont get it. If you have the lack of common sense to NOT GO TO WORK, and instead go rally at a protest, waving a flag of your origin, while illegally working in this country.... well.. you dont have sense. And its these people who dont have sense and dont get it, who are using MY TAX DOLLARS to live off of, who want to change our beautiful national anthem to SPANISH... its just too much. I had sympathy in the beginning. But theyre like the houseguest that wont leave, and doesnt get that its not your responsibility to make sure theyre fed and have a roof over their head.

On a side Disney note - Imagine going to the AMERICAN ADVENTURE at Epcot. And listening to 'Spread your Golden Wings' In Spanish. Listening to John F. Kennedy ask 'Its not what your country can do for you, its what you can do for your country' In spanish!? Well heck, lets listen to in a native american language, they were here first!

I am so sick of our country letting the rest of the world walk all over us. While we bail everyone out of trouble.

Call me a racist, a bigot, whatever you want. because first and foremost Im a patriot. And i love this country. And Im sorry If I want to fight to keep it a place where people in coutries other than Mexico want to immigrate to. Im sorry that I dont want the entire 70 year or so span of my life to be a joke in the history books.

NTM if they are here illegally... There is NO paperwork on them. Meaning that if they kidnapped or killed your child. Robbed a bank, Or committed any crime. Unless someone saw them plain as day, there would be no system to catching them. No database of names to choose from. No fingerprints. No birth record, no social, no nothing. National Security is a big issue.

You do not just get rights. If you did, every country would be a wonderful, perfect democracy. You EARN rights. And these people who are protesting feel they are owed something, when its them who are trespassing on our land. Whether theyre from England, mexico, New Zealand or Egypt. If your not a citizen GET OUT. or become one. Simple as that.

Your welcome. I am tired of being told I'm missing the point. I am not missing the point. I commented on something that was posted. I know I know it was an email you liked that you posted that summed up your thoughts. So I guess that is what you think about the culture of illegal immigrants and yes I DO find that sad!

Your denying illegal immigrants get pregnant and rape us of tax dollars to fund their children?

If theyre getting paid under the table...who is paying for the wic and foodstamp programs their children need to be on? And if theyre not on wic and foodstamps, who is paying for their education?

You are.

There are too many actual citizens in this country who NEED tax dollars for things, then wasting billions on people who are not here legally.

Ooh there's just too much I can't resist!

greenyskp said:

 My favorite argument! The "my tax dollars." I'm sure that YOUR tax dollars support tons and tons of people. If they are living off your tax dollars they wouldn't be working. Yet they are. So I am confused. Don't pat yourself on the back too much!

I'd love to see some statistics from a neutral third party on what illegal immgrants pay in taxes, earn in wages, and cost in social services.

who want to change our beautiful national anthem to SPANISH... its just too much.

What about that story didn't you get? A music producer decided to record a version of the National Anthem in Spanish and sell it. Nobody wants to change the national anthem. Calm down.

Why not? Got a problem with Native American culture or language? I find it beautiful and hello it's a major part of American history!

And why are people so scared of Spanish?? Good Lord Spanish is not going to become the national language. It's not going to hurt you to listen to someone speaking in Spanish. It's not going to hurt you if a company happens to offer service in both Spanish and English. Don't worry, in ten years English will still be spoken in American.

Isn't it nice that in American you have the FREEDOM to speak whatever language we choose?

I am so sick of our country letting the rest of the world walk all over us. While we bail everyone out of trouble.

What??? :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Oh yeah they are just walking all over us. It's too bad we aren't "bailing out" the hundreds of thousands in Darfur. Or the tens of thousands of Invisible Children in Uganda. We are just God's gift to the world aren't we?? You know what they say, pride comes before the fall.

And Im sorry If I want to fight to keep it a place where people in coutries other than Mexico want to immigrate to.

What? :confused3

Um, people of all cultures and immigration status get pregnant? What does that have to do wtih anything? I am not willing to paint and entire group of peope with one stroke of the brush, like the email you posted.

If theyre getting paid under the table...who is paying for the wic and foodstamp programs their children need to be on? And if theyre not on wic and foodstamps, who is paying for their education?

You are.

And guess what, I don't care. I don't care if my tax dollars are used to feed and educate people. I am GLAD when my tax dollars are used to support those in need.

and rape us of tax dollars to fund their children?

Good grief.
