Thoughts on GV availability?

I am planning a trip “hosting” my brother and his family. I was hoping to have split stay between BCV (Home resort) and an AKV GV. For several reasons, we really need/want to stay at BCV first and then AKV. I have been watching the AKV GV availability at Kidani, and for the entire month of October, the *only* days unavailable are two days that I was hoping to reserve. Sigh.

So, my question is can anyone guess how likely it is that a waitlist for a GV will come through? It would seem to me that people who reserve a GV are not likely to change plans. So, I’m not super-hopeful. Thoughts?

One DS and family are joining us in October. I have a two bedroom in Kidani booked, but a seriously considering changing to a GV at seven months and including my DSIS in the villa.

So, I hope I am not your competition! Our dates are available, I just have to wait for 7 months. I think you are right though. I certainly would not want to cancel a GV stay. I have looked at SSR, and would take one of those.

LOL! I doubt you are my “competition.” If you look at the availability calendar, the last two days of my hoped-for stay are the only two unavailable dates for Kidani in October. :-/

Those dates you want, Oct 12 and 13, are part of Columbus Day weekend, one of the highest DVC demand weekends of the year. They might come through on wait list and might not but I would make sure I have alternative plans reserved if attending at that time is necessary.

I did not realize that weekend was such a high-demand weekend. But I guess the holiday + F&W = lots of people taking trips. Thankfully, I do have alternative plans right now. I booked our entire stay at BCV. And, I may just bite the bullet and stay at AKV the first half of our trip. My nephews love animals and I just know they would be super excited to stay there. It’s just definitely not ideal.

Is your original booking at BCV in two separate, consecutive reservations? If so you will be able to modify one of those reservations to be AKV rather than BCV and not risk losing either BCV reservation if you cannot complete the modication because AKV fills before you can change your reservation at 7 months out.

However, if your entire vacation time is currently in one BCV reservation, then you have the following problem: (a) there is no way you can just change a part of that reservation to AKV by just trying to modify your current reservation while still holding your current reservation; (b) instead, you will have to first cancel the entire BCV reservation and then try to make a new reservation at AKV and then a second reservation at BCV, and if you do that, you face a serious risk of not being able to get BCV at all if someone else at 7 months out has a wait list or is attempting, at the same time as you are, to reserve BCV time for the time and type of room you want; (c) alternatively, you could first modify the BCV reservation by dropping the days you want at AKV from that reservation, but then AKV may fill during the time of that exercise, and you will not be able to reserve it or get back the BCV time given up.

In other words, if you currently have a single reservation at BCV, you should not be planning any attempt to change a part of it at 7 months out, particularly for a high demand time, which Oct overall is.

I have three reservations at BCV, thanks to advice given here a few months ago. You may have even been one of those people! ;) I have one for a studio that is for entire length of trip, except the first night. My brothers family arrives a day after ours. Then a 2BR part A and 2BR part B. The problem is I am limited in solutions by the number of points I have. I can’t keep my BCV reservations AND make an AKV GV reservation for the first half AND snag what is available at AKV for second half AND waitlist 10/12-13, which is what I *wish* I could do! :rotfl:
Honestly, my options boils down A) Pay 49 extra points for the first night if we rent the GV for the first half of the trip. (Brother won’t be joining until the next night.) B) Stay in a 1BR at AKV the first night - which means my family would have to move twice (yuck). C) Waitlist the GV, but be prepared to stay the entire time at BCV.

Darn Columbus!!!
