Thoughts about new CDC guidelines and how it might affect your Disney vacation.

Very happy about this. The happiness went down slightly seeing Disney also said you have to still wear the mask while on line for attractions that are outdoor, or have outdoor sections also, basically you'll have a mask on majority of the day in the hot weather waiting..Waiting on line for toy story outside? Could be hundreds of people walking past you without wearing one, but you gotta wear a mask on the outdoor line, etc. Overly cautious but hey it's a start that I expect to get even more loosened in the coming weeks.

Overlooked I think is not having to wear it on the property ( I assume thats included right ) ala walking on hotel grounds, the boardwalk, etc.. thats nice.. including the world at Epcot

Now to see how they actually enforce people putting masks on indoors. I will be scouring the Internet for the next couple of weeks for reporting before I decide whether or not to cancel. At least there should be plenty of data for when I finally need to decide on my trip.

First and foremost, when we go to Disney in a few weeks, I absolutely plan on complying with their rules. I have no problem with that at all.

That said, if Disney reduces or eliminates mask requirements at that time I am fine ditching them based on the new CDC Guidelines. My understanding of the CDC's position is that fully vaccinated people (1) are extremely unlikely to be infected; (2) extremely unlikely to get sick if they do get infected; and (3) even if they do get infected, unlikely to build enough of a viral load that they could pass it on to someone else who was not vaccinated.

I had no problem with social distancing and wearing a mask when the science indicated it was necessary to do so. By the same token, I have no problem with fully vaccinated people not having to social distance and wear masks now that science has indicated it is not necessary to do so.

I will continue to respect businesses (including Disney) who require masks, and will put mine on with no hesitation if required by the business. But otherwise, I am glad to be moving on from those restrictions.
I feel exactly the same, if some place wants to me to wear it, I’ll do it, it’s their property but I’m literate and can read. Also, under 12 and under has no more risk than this than any thing else absent pre existing conditions. But if the parents are vaccinated they aren’t getting. Our kids were in school every day in person since August 12 and not one case of transmission among kids at school abs only 8 kids under the 7th grade were positive at any point and two were siblings and all their parents had it first. So w me have all the information we need about actual risk. I’d also add that my wife’s grandmother had a “breakthrough” infection after vaccination. She’s 92, diabetic and obese….she had a cough for two weeks and feels perfectly fine 3 weeks later. I think we’re going to be ok.

I think this is the best option right now. I think enforcement of putting your mask on when you enter a building or queue may be easier now. They are focused on certain activities, not people walking and eating. People may be more willing to comply and not sneak it down or eat for 20 minutes in line if they have had a break from the mask when outside walking since you don’t have to wear it 24 hrs a day.

That’s really encouraging to hear about your wife’s grandmother..even though she became infected it was a lot less severe than it most likely would have been without vaccination given her age and concurrent conditions.

When is your trip?

I think she would have gotten really sick or worse before being vaccinated, that’s the whole idea of the vaccine.

Ok, they may not change much more before then but they’re going to start loading busses all the way this weekend or start to if that matters to you.
My understanding is they were already filling all seats with the buses, just not allowing standing room anyway. The key is they are still requiring masks on transportation per the rules. Again, just an issue of enforcement. Thanks for the tip.

Let’s talk seriously now, what’s their excuse for no fireworks with these latest changes?

The fact that you call them face diapers is all we need to know about your feelings. You can’t comprehend that you had a choice to go to Disney. You didn’t HAVE to go to Disney—even if you lost points. Very dramatic. And if you are at Disney, don’t you have better things to do than be on the internet talking to strangers?

Masks are no longer needed outdoors in Disney effective tomorrow.
Common sense prevails

We're arriving for a Disney World trip next weekend. I see people not expecting change to come very quickly, but within days I honestly don't think we'll need to wear masks while simply walking around the park. The science is clear on vaccinations and outdoor transmission, and cases and hospitalizations are plummeting.

There's no need to wait until the fall, July 4 or June 1. Disney should make the common sense move, immediately, to simply require masks while in line for or actively engaged in an attraction, riding Disney transportation, and while indoors.

That's a simple next step IMO that acknowledges what we all have known, and is now endorsed by the CDC, while providing some protection to children. People who are still cautious don't have to sit next to someone they don't know who isn't wearing a mask, or even stand next to them outdoors while waiting for a ride. But people also wouldn't have to wear a mask all day while moving throughout the park in the heat.

In an ideal world, all the vaccinated people would go mask-free and all the unvaccinated people would wear their masks to keep from spreading their germs to other unvaccinated people. The huge problem with that is there's no way to tell who and who isn't vaccinated, so from a practical point of view masking at Disney has to be an all or nothing kind of requirement.

I could hope that even if Disney doesn't require masks, anyone who isn't vaccinated would still wear one voluntarily but... LOL... I have extremely little faith that's going to happen.

The harm is the kids who can't get vaccinated yet. It's kind of a big gray area at just how much risk kids have from being around unvaccinated adults in an indoor space and parents are going to have different viewpoints on what an "acceptable" level is anyways even if we could figure it out. You also have to consider the herd immunity effects already happening as cases go down, which also lowers risk. It's something we're currently really struggling with to decide with our kids. I don't envy the decision Disney has to make now as they figure out if more people care about whatever level of risk that brings to kids vs how many adults they upset by requiring masks.

My suggestion is at some date we should start charging full price for doctors and hospitals for any unvaccinated adult who catches Covid. I don't see why I have to subsidize someone who refuses to protect themselves with a simple, quick, and free shot, and ventilators are expensive! If someone doesn't want to take that risk, they can stay home. Obviously this doesn't really work in the real world because a bunch of destitute bankrupt people isn't good for society either, but it's a nice thought that would probably increase vaccination rates.

According to the senate hearings this week, 40% of the staff at NIH and CDC have decided against taking the vaccines. Thats a lot of scientists that don’t trust the science.
