Thoughts about new CDC guidelines and how it might affect your Disney vacation.

Man that was a late announcement, there's a good chance it'll be a complete surprise to the opening cast in the morning (especially anyone already asleep getting up mega early for work) This must have come from the top, and was accelerated by the Universal move.

I've been curious where we'll end up on the other side of this, whether North America will adopt some of the general face mask usage that we see in other parts of the world (not feeling well, wear a mask / flu season, wear a mask) or if it'll just be a big old bonfire of face masks (just not the Disney ones... there so cute). Sounds like it's probably a good idea to invest in marshmallow stocks.

Also curious to see if we ditch the sweat pants on the other side of this for a bit more of a roaring '20s fashion sense ("Dapper Days?" "No, that's just they way everyone dresses in the parks nowadays.")

According to the senate hearings this week, 40% of the staff at NIH and CDC have decided against taking the vaccines. Thats a lot of scientists that don’t trust the science.

That's quite interesting. I did a quick search to find a link to this to share with a few people but couldn't find it. Do you happen to have a link to it?

Sorry, can't resist...

Well, I'm torn. I don't like wearing the mask but now that I'm used to it I feel like I'm topless without it. UGH!

While the CDC does not have a specific policy regarding the latter part of that sentence, Disney most definitely does... particularly on Splash Mountain. Just a gentle reminder, guests will still need to keep their tops on or their photos will be blocked.

Just realizing that's a very weird Venn Diagram... reason Splash Mountain photo was blocked... not wearing a mask, not wearing a top, the intersection of those two groups...

We leave tomorrow. No mask required outdoors but once you enter inside a park you need a mask or just inside and in line? Correct? Disney springs as well?
How much did they raise park capacity to?
Hoping it won’t be too too crowded this coming week
We’re vaccinated.

Disney has announced masks optional outside for those vaccinated, but still mandatory inside, yes insideattractions the way I read it. I guess outside isn't too bad as long as there are still precautions inside for all who cannot get the vaccine yet. It's a better policy than some stores are doing in my opinion

You need to wear a mask indoors only, on transportation and when waiting online to get on an attraction (the start of the official queue, until you leave the queue )

park capacity has been raised.

I just love that "just not the Disney ones" remark! I now have this image in my head of a huge mask bonfire -- except for all the Disney masks being stuffed into Disney themed bags for safekeeping.
:rotfl2:
As for the other comment, my guess is we'll see just a little bit of carryover into flu season, etc., as the concept will no longer seem so strange to a lot of people. As a customer, I'd like it if commercial cooks and food servers would stay masked. Spittle in my food seems worse than the possible random hair in the soup. But those are tough, and hot, jobs, and for the sake of the workers, I expect the masks will go. And I'll just get used to it.
As for Disney, it'd be nice if some "personal spacing"/distancing sticks around, but not in a formal manner. I'm ready to go back now that the CDC has updated its guidance. If I had an unvaccinated child, I think I'd wait for the kid to get a shot too, but I'm sure that'll be possible soon. Regardless, it's the CDC guidance rather than the masks themselves that makes a difference to me, though obviously a lot of people hate them, they've never bothered me too much. Especially since those cute Disney ones exist. :)

Or because he has no idea since they haven't actually counted, he's going by the overall Maryland vaccination rate instead of making up a number? https://usafacts.org/visualizations/covid-vaccine-tracker-states/state/maryland
DC is even lower due to the issues with rollout. https://coronavirus.dc.gov/data/vaccination

Wondering now since Disney has semi updated their guidelines stating those who are vaccinated will have the option to wear a mask outside, will they be telling these maskless parents to mask up their children under 12? They obviously are not vaccinated. I wonder how this will be handled.

I watched the video and no one said of those who haven't gotten it have "decided against taking it". There could be a host of reasons why they haven't gotten it. Maybe they aren't going to, maybe they just haven't yet. And it was just an estimate in their opinions -- they don't know. To say that that's scientists not trusting science is a BIG stretch -- we have no idea.

So, on a side note, Publix stopped requiring masks for vaccinated folks today -- so, for the first time since they've required masks, I didn't wear one this morning. Many employees weren't wearing masks for the first time, but many were (and not who you'd think). I suspect the store is making their employees who have "decided against taking the vaccine" to continue wear the mask. At my office, we'll be going back full-time in June and I've heard rumors that the unvaccinated will still have to wear masks.

Back to Disney, absolutely thrilled that we won't have to wear masks outdoors on our trip in a few weeks!

I highly doubt they will be telling parents anything. I bet they'll leave masking up to the discretion of the parents.

The policy is not for vaccinated people. It’s for everyone. No one has to wear a mask outdoors except CM. It’s the same as CDC guidelines regarding outdoors.

Not quite. This is the most recent set of CDC guidelines for unvaccinated people.

We are fully vaccinated, and I am thrilled about this change. We still wear our masks where required, and it will be an adjustment to not wear them in all situations.

Yes, the updated CDC guidelines do indeed only apply to vaccinated people; however, Disney's updated mask policy follows yesterday's announcement by Orange county that masks are no longer required for anyone while outdoors, so as of today, masks are no longer required outdoors for anyone (vaxed or unvaxed) at Disney unless you're in line for an attraction.

Given Disney's previous adherence to CDC guidelines over State/County requirements, I was very surprised to see them adopt the county mask policy so quickly, especially while still not recommended by the CDC. It may be an indication that they've crossed a threshold where it's now a worse PR move to not open up as soon as they're allowed by the county than it is to follow the more conservative CDC guidelines.

Wondering with this new update will they bring back some of the ultimate thrills tour or backstage tour etc.

This is great news. I'm excited seeing life make steps to getting back to normal. It's been a long time coming. With the vaccines, I'm feeling confident with the way things are opening up. I will probably wear my mask in close quarters, but it's nice for people to have options.

I've been twice sine they reopened. The "summer" trip was brutal having to wear that mask. I have three upcoming trips so this won't change anything for me. I'm grateful for the news and am very hopeful that things will be better come October. With an increase in attendance and all the recent news I hope Disney opens Music and Sports soon.
