Thought this was a GREAT quote.

We just learned an intriguing fact about our neighbors - they're every bit as much of a Disney fanatic as I am. They go to WDW twice a year; prime candidates for DVC, yes?

So, in a recent conversation with them, I was in my best DVC Guide mode, sharing with them the ins and outs of the whole thing.

I think they're hooked. I did say, offhandedly, that for a lot of folks this is a significant financial outlay, but we all put priorities on what's important.

Here's the anecdote she shared:

Arenius was a monk who lived in ancient times. One day he decided to go to the huge city of Alexandria. When he got there he spent hours walking though all the bazaars and markets of this great city. Someone eventually walked up to him and asked Arenius what he was doing. He responded, “I’m allowing my heart to rejoice at all the things I just don’t need.”

When threads surface here occasionally that smack of "elitism," and Disney guests are grouped by class, social standing, and wealth, I just thought it was refreshing to hear from this young couple who are willing to combine financial prudence with a sincere desire to follow their hearts.

My heart led me to DVC, and no, I am not sorry.

June 20 won't get here soon enough for me. BWV, here all 10 of us come!

"Need" is subjective. Some may say that I don't "NEED" a gas guzzling S.U.V. Some may also comment that I don’t “Need” to fly first class. Some may also comment that I don’t “Need” all my money and that I should I give it away to the less fortunate.

The answers are just as subjective as the original question. I “Need” an S.U.V. because in my business I haul a lot of clients and also move some product around. There is no better vehicle. I fly over 100 flights per year (United 1K) and find that First Class gives a nice comfort level and thus relaxes me prior/during/afterwards of a flight. This is one less thing to dread during business travel. I invest most of my money to make more money to insure my family is taken care of should something happen to me. I considered the DVC purchase an investment also. We will vacation every year anyway so the DVC purchase will save a lot of money in the long run.

As you can see, anyone can justify anything. What we all decide we “Need” may be perceived as a “Want” by our neighbors, friends, or family. To those people I say “Thou Shalt Not Covet Thy Neighbors STUFF” (basically the gist of the 10th Commandment).

So in conclusion, I once again need to search for that $100 bill to light my cigar and contemplate what else on this earth I “Need”.

Good Day :snooty:

BTW: I don’t drive an S.U.V, I don’t fly first class, and I don’t have a lot of money. I only wish I had/did all three and I trust me, I NEED THEM!!! :)

Yes, they definitely sound like prime candidates for DVC. I too got to share the DVC information with similar prime prospects. While quite relevant to their Disney behavior, they just aren't in a cash flow position to be able to join the club. They've got a new house and still have student loan debts to pay off. Perhaps they could get in on DVC and finance the deal, but it was just not a wise financial decision for them to take on even more debt with another interest payment to make. Whether it be "want" or "need," I guess the fact remains that timing is important when entering into major financial decisions. Some folks are simply victims of cash flow crunch and will have to wait patiently for certain dreams. I count myself fortunate that an unexpected gift from my dear grandfather allowed my wife and I to be DVC members. A little good luck is a good thing.
