Thought on split staying between Contemporary and POR Royal room

i need some help from whom have stayed at the resorts mentioned above. Planning the very first WDW trip in Jan 2018 with my two girls, 5 & 3. Planning doing MK 2 days and 1 day of each other park. We are going to take it slow, probably will go to the attractions that my daughter's are interested in, AKA, all the princess related attractions, more than those gear towards adults.

First thing first, we are planning stay at Contemporary due to the location, however, I just read the review of the royal room at POR, which I am sure my girls will enjoy the theme of the room. Here is the concern, the review mentioned that the POR is a spread resort that might be hard to get around with small children. The multiple stops bus route is not favorable to children either. So, should we stick with contemporary the whole time, or 2 nights at POR with 5 & 3 yo are doable? My thought so far is doing MK and Epcot on the days we stay at Contemporary, doing HS on the transfer day, and end our trip with AK. Good idea or too much hassle?

Thank you for your advice and suggestions!

We ve stayed both. The convenience of contemp for ur MK days is great.. personally don't feel it's very disney immersive as a resort but proximity is wonderful. THE "excitement" for little ones..?? The monorail? But the resort itself feels more adult like, sleek etc ..
POR royal rooms are not in the best location, however.. the resort is beautiful, very kid friendly, great food court area and gift shop, the free "bob" show if u can catch it would be perfect for ur little ones too. The pool, play area... it's a very good choice. The room itself is fun... the headboard fireworks etc will def be a hit with the kids as well. What a great way to end the vacation ... I'd go for it!
Enjoy!!

We stayed at POR with our kids (2.5 & 5) this May. We brought our sit and stand stroller and it was pretty painless. The only snags we ran into were if both kids fell asleep in the stroller while we were waiting for the bus or if both fell asleep on the bus. I would not have been able to handle the logistics of this without another adult on hand.

I'm sure your girls would love the royal rooms, but for a first visit I might not do a split stay, I think it would be too much stress. Maybe save POR RR for your next visit...because you know there will be a next visit.

I would go with the Contemporary for the whole stay. We stayed in the garden wing a few weeks ago and absolutely loved it. The rooms are very spacious and extremely nice. We requested (and got) a first floor room that had a patio. We were able to step outside our door and watch the Electrical water pageant at night, and we were super close to the pool. You cannot beat being able to walk to MK.

We've stayed in a royal room at POR before, and thought it was ok, but honestly not that spectacular. The headboards have fireworks on them, and there may be a few other decorative touches, but that's about it. POR is a big resort and we did not like having to stop at all of the bus stops (not fun when you have two exhausted kids at the end of the night who just want to get in bed)

I concur with the statement above. My wife and I wanted to try the Royal Room in prep for a trip with our niece. It's cute but we found it not worth the cost. The room was small and other than the headboard........not all that special. Other issues we had was the vastness of POR. While the resort is beautiful its huge! It can be walk (even from the Royal Rooms) to the lobby or Dining area.

The other issue for us was the buses. There are 4 stops at POR and they're spread apart. The problem for us came in the evening and we lost our bearings and got off at the wrong stop o_O. Took 20 minutes to walk back to our room. Not fun at midnight.

The Contemporary is so beautiful, rooms are big, transportation is easy. IF you could swing it.........I'd stay there. An AoA Little Mermaid room is cheaper and better themed in my opinion. Although it can be a walk..........but the buses are much easier.

I am going to have to cast my vote for a royal room at POR! We stayed in Room #9090 in Oak Manor. It was just a short walk to the main bus stop, main pool and food court. We were on the first floor by a quiet pool. It was so lovely. Multiple bus stops aren't really that big of a deal. My children love the bus rides. It is part of the thrill of vacation for them. We don't get to ride buses at home. I think your daughters would love a royal room. They are the perfect age for it! That stage doesn't last very long. The Contemporary is nice, but so sterile, loud and busy.

I hope you have a great trip and make special memories!
