Those with a tesco credit card

Hi ,do you put your holiday balance on your card to rack up points even though there's a fee,(virgin)or do you pay by debit.I'm leaning towards debit,but a work collegue is saying the points literally cancell out the fee.Just wondered what others do as i begrudge paying 36.00 in fees,lol if i have the money to pay upfront,lol.

Well you get one Tesco point per pound normally but that is probably doubled on the credit card but as it takes 100 Tesco points for a £1 voucher (or £4 if you do clubcard deal) I'm not sure if it will cancel out the fee. I haven't booked direct with virgin so was a bit surprised about the fee - I've never had to pay one via my travel agent whoever I fly with!

Cheers for tha t Mikki It seems only worth while if booking D.I.Y for protection,as i rarely do the deals,i just use it to pay towards christmas shopping.Does anyone know if that abta ruling about not carrying the can if a business goes bust is inforce now-although i doubt virgin will go bust anytime soon

I put mine on my credit card and have the points (flying club miles). I'm obsessed with those points. The sooner I get loads, the sooner we can go back. Trying to save for a free companion flight.

It depends which card you have with Tesco, though I believe it is never as favourable as that (unfortunately )* I have one that pays 1 point for every £2 spent (unless at Tesco in which case it is 1 point per £1.) I have had my card for many years and I don't think the points are as generous now.

The newer cards that Tesco are now doing only pay 1 point per every £4 spent I think

I'm going to move this across to Community as it's more of a general discussion than a Trip Planning one

As to whether I would do it, it would depend what value I felt I was getting for my points vs the extra cash outlay.

Until recently I was also obsessed with points on one of my credit cards. I spotted a loophole in a credit card I had, where it gave loyalty points (cashback) for balance transfers. I opened 6 other credit cards, all of which had a 0% promotional period and 0% fee on balance transfers (rare to find this now). I then spent 3 months bouncing money backwards and forwards to and from the card that had the loophole, each time I earned 1% cashback.
The loophole was spotted and closed in December, and now they clearly state that cashback is not earnt on balance transfers.
They paid out though, I recently got just short of £1300 credited to my account. Which isnt bad considering I never spent a penny of my own money, and, most importantly, never broke the law !
Shame they spotted the loophole though.....I could have quit my job and done it full time, hehe.
