How do you deal with it?

I had it 3 times in April, and again early Tuesday morning. This time the dizziness made me vomit. :( DH helps me do the Epley maneuver and it goes away, but keeps coming back. Is there anything a person can do to try and prevent it from happening?

I have vertigo, but it's not positional so Epley doesn't help. What sometimes works, if I feel it coming on, is to stare at a fixed object close to your eyes. The last round of testing, the technician held up a finger about arm's length away from me and told me to stare at it. It worked during the testing, and sometimes works at home. Other then that, I avoid sudden movement, always drive or sit in the front seat if I can't, and don't drink unless it's a very special occasion. I can't even watch the kids on the swings at recess without feeling seasick, so I also avoid watching anything with back/forth or up/down movement. I also stock up on decongestents during allergy season, if my ears start to feel clogged, or if I get water in them, I start popping pills because it's a sure thing the vertigo is going to get worse. Once it hits, ginger candy or crystallized ginger help settle my stomach. I have a prescription for generic Zofran if I'm really sick to my stomach. I don't know what causes your vertigo, but I use Meclizine, which I'm sure I spelled wrong lol. I ran out a few months ago and didn't realize how much it really helped until then!

I get dizzy to the point of blacking out almost every time I get up. Went to a Dr. for it, she said its because my blood presure goes down about 10-20 points every time I sit up. I've gotten to the point that I'm pretty used to it, and just walk through it (if I know where I'm going...).

I'm not sure what the difference is between Vertigo and Menieres Disease - but I have been dealing with low blood pressure, and low blood sugar - then when the bouts of dizziness occurs, I thought it was the low blood sugar, when it became so intense (vomit, not being able to move - AT ALL etc etc) the doctor had me keep journals, gave me plenty of tests (ears, etc no MRI tho)

he prescribed meds...

but we had a trip planned to Disney - a trip with just DH and I to celebrate our anniversary - Now I love tower of terror - dh HATES the drops (tickle tummy for me... :rotfl:) So dh said he'd do ToT if I did Rock n roller coaster ( I used to love roller coasters...)

For some reason, after doing RnR - I havent had a symptom of dizziness! I had a doctor's appoint (pre MRI mind you!) and the Doctor Laughed and said, if it was an inner ear imbalance, fluid the rolls of the coaster path must've put everything back in place!!

I still get minor bouts - but I hold on to something and focus - and scream for dh, and take a pill... its scary

Good Luck!
You can take the dramamine (even the non drowsy formula helps some) to see if that helps also -

I can help, maybe!! A friend at work was getting AWFUL vertigo and almost got fired for calling in sick too much. She finally made it to a doctor who prescribed her a version of Dramamine!! She said if she had known.. she could have just gotten the regular stuff from the drugstore. The doctor said her symptoms were almost identical to seasickness, and that's why it works. I think it's worth a try - just make sure it doesn't interact with any other meds you might be taking.

I had vertigo and slight hearing loss due to fluid in my ears-my eustacian tubes were swollen and the fluid could not drain. Diagnosed by an ENT.

I have allergies also. I had ear tubes put in at the age of 38-and it took care of the problem for me. Five years and have not had a problem since-I am hoping I never have to have that feeling again.

Best wishes-hope you find something to help your symptoms.

I have vertigo occasionally, almost always induced by one of my meds. My mother gets vertigo quite regularly. Both of us use Bonine(OTC). I take 2 pills and go lie down. There have been times when my doctor has prescribed the Bonine every 8 hours, it got so bad. You have my full sympathies. Vertigo sucks!

Depends on why you have it.There are exercises you can do, and there are meds that can help, too. With positional hypotension (getting dizzy when you first stand up after lying prone) getting up very slowly and even drinking some water before you stand can help.

I have Meneire's, and I take valium for it. It is a really tiny daily dose, 2 mg., but for some mysterious reason it helps to reduce the fluid in my ears.

If you have not seen an ENT about this, do so. There are things than can be done to help, but you need expert advice that is based on your particular diagnosis.
