Those who DIDN"T have verandahs...

I would DEFINATELY skip the veranda. I won't lie, we love ours but we love cruising so much that I would skip it if that was a deciding factor. There are still many places for you to enjoy quite views, such as the secret deck!

It's great. Don't worry for a minute. There are lots of places to relax. My favorite is deck ten above the quiet cove pool, near the smokestack.

Would I like one, yes, but I'd rather have the kids come with us on vacation and spend the extra on Conk Coolers.

On our last cruise we went with a group of family and friends
(about 120 people) and were in all categories from 1 to 12.
While the verandahs are terrific, we ALL had a great time and most of us spent very little time in our rooms. The public areas are wonderful (especially deck 4 and deck 7 aft) and going without a verandah beats not going by a mile.

We've done two 3-night without and have booked a 7 without, in fact the same room each time. We didn't discover the secret deck until our 2nd cruise. It was very peaceful. There are alot of other places to relax as well.

We are extremely excited (and thankful) to be able to go.

We would love to have a verandah, but like many of you it's just not possible. I'm still waiting to hit the lotto-lol. If I'm going to dream big, I might as well put the cat. 1 in it too!

i'm sure i'm in the minority here but i perferred no verandah, our neighbors were loud and rude and smokers. we spent very little time on the verandah anyway and tho i thought i would enjoy my morning coffee out there i always felt it was too hot outside to enjoy it. plus i enjoy the crowds and people watching i don't want to be all alone on my verandah. i know you will enjoy your cruise even without the verandah. i hope you have a great time.

Weve stayed in a cat 11 and a cat 10(SPH)...and we loved the cruise. We were not in the room long enough to warrant one. I figured it out and it would have cost 200.00 more per day of the cruise and I know we would have only spent maybe 1/2 hour out there a day...those are expensive 1/2 hours. ;) We are hoping to maybe do a 7 day cruise with a verandah next, but if we cant afford it a SPH or an 11 will be just fine with me. :)

My sentiments exactly. I want to Thank you for bringing to my attention deck 10 above quiet cove pool. We are booked in a SPR
for our next cruise and I kept thinking how long a walk it would be
to go to secret deck 7, we will have our children with us. Is deck 10 forward for adults only or children too.

Thanks
Joanna

Our first cruise two years ago we booked a veranda. It was nice (except our neighbors were smokers too) but we were in the room so little (sleep and shower). The next cruise we booked an inside cabin and loved it. For our two week back-to-back cruise this coming Jan we also booked an inside cabin. The money we saved can used to buy more stuff in the ship's store! not to mention paying for the film processing for all the pictures I take. Enjoy the inside cabin

Hi Everyone! I just found this forum , a few days before we left on the Aug 30 Western on the Magic! I am a DVC member-for about 6 yrs-just recently separated-I went with my DD 25 & DS -20 yrs old. We had the BEST time on earth! Wow & I thought that we loved going to WDW-home to Old Key West! I didnt haven enuf pts for a verandah, but DVC called on the wed bef we left & told us that we had a free upgrade! we loved it, but you know we only sat in those chairs for a few min! I want to go again like now! but no more DVC pts-had to borr from 05 to go-anyways, I bot 100 more-but I cant get them until May 1-Saratoga springs. So... im going to be in the lookout for a gread price on the DCL-doesnt matter to me verandah or if there is a port hole! the best part ws the kids became friends again! Val S.

We were in a cat. 11 and had a great 7 day cruise despite having no verandah. And there are many, many other people on the cruise that have no verandah.

There was an actual benefit to no verandah: even in the middle of the day, if you have the lights out, the room is totally dark. It's absolutely wonderful for napping after you've had a bit too much sun and water.

We also would turn on the TV to the station that showed the outside view.

And as other posters have said: deck 10 is wonderful for lounging and reading a book. The wait staff will supply you with drinks and life is good....

Is deck 10 forward for adults only or children too.

The Quiet Cove pool, deck 9, forward, is adults only.

Children are allowed on deck 10.

Thanks for the reply about deck 10. Now being forward won't be so bad.

Thanks
Joanna

OK, I'm not ashamed to say it...we just can't afford it! :(
So someone, PLEASE tell me I won't regret the whole trip just because we didn't get a verandah! I'm hoping we just won't spend much time in our room.

Yeah, I'd love to have a relaxing drink and sit out there, but can't I do it by the pool? on another deck? in the piano lounge?

I keep reading how wonderful they are, and I'm sure they are. We just can't do it. And the chances of us getting an upgrade are too slim to think about since we need adjoining rooms.

heart4dis: (we're on the same upcoming cruise as you)We've had Cat5 verandahs our past two cruises but could not afford a verandah category this time. In fact, we will have Cat11 -- not even split bathrooms :( . I am a little anxious over this as well even though I know there are plenty of places to enjoy the ocean view onboard. Deep down I know that no matter what it will be a *magical* cruise and there is so much to do in the 4 days on the Wonder that you will not have much time for a verandah anyway! :) We'll stick together on this one! ;)

But I haven't been bothered up there. My favorite time is late afternoon around 5PM. A good book, something to drink, the sea to look out on. Oh man, I'm making myself homesick for another cruise.

I just have to add my 2 cents to this thread. We had a verandah this past august and yes it was nice to sit and watch us docking but honestly I used it more for drying bathing suits than I did sitting on it. I thought we would use it a lot at night when we put the kids to bed but we were so exausted we were in bed right behind them. Plus when you sit on the Verandah at night you are looking at a very dark ocean and that gets old after a while. Sorry but I am also in the minority when I say the verandah just isn't worth the extra money.

Also thought the split baths were over rated also. I kept going back and forth between the two and it was a bit of a pain. I don't know how much we will miss these options since we booked a cat. 11 on our next cruise but I do think I will like the fact that DH and I will not be tripping over each other to get around the bed. According to the diagrams the bed is on the far wall in the cat. 11's so it seems like the cat. 11's might feel roomier than they are since you don't have to squeeze by the bed? We shall see next august and I can't wait!

Our next cruise (#5) will be without a veranda. We had a veranda on all our previous cruises. The veranda neighbors we had on our last cruise made us decide that we would not pay for a veranda again. We will spend our time wherever we find quiet.

Heart4dis...........I for one am a verandah man. And, we were very dissappointed when our Nov. 30, 2002 easternwas cancelled and we had to go with a cat. non verandah. But, it wasn't as bad as I thought.....it's just tough to go from a verandah to one without. By the way, your countdown clock says you are cruising Dec 8, 2003.....I'm assuming that is the Dec. 7 Wonder 4 nighter....if that is the case cat 8 thru DCL for 2 adults is 1859 and the cat. 6 upgrade isonly 200.00. I'd pay the 50.00 per night. Just my 2 cents worth.

I've cruised with and w/o a verandah and never used it enough to justify the expense. They're nice, but we're never in the room except to sleep, shower and change clothes! DCL will let you pick your cabin, so this Thanksgiving I picked an inside cabin at the very back of deck 7, just a very few steps away from the aft public deck. It's frequently deserted, so I'm looking at it like I've got my own very large verhandah...I just can't go out there in my underwear!
