Wendy, you could try renting out a AKL villas from a DVC member, and just getting flights. It could work out cheaper.

Thanks for the advice but I've looked again today and they have altered the ages of children back to upto 16 years old so the price is back down to £5000 mark and I'm booking with some Tesco vouchers, I know I could book a cheap hotel just to make use of the flights and then book the hotels separately but it doesn't seem to work out any cheaper, I don't know how some people get the prices down so much. I'm still a novice at all this.

We are waiting on the half term dates, the LEA have not realised the 09/10 holidays yet !

Ours haven't even released the 08/09 dates!!!! I don't know when DS goes back to school in Septmeber, never mind the following year. Keep asking at school and no dates available yet. For goodness sake I wish our LEA published them for 3 years like some areas do. Then they moan when you take your kids out of school

Have you checked the local authority website. If not under education section you can e:mail them and ask. I often e:mail early as need I am allowed to take the last two weeks of august off work and need to know the exact date I have to be back and this is the time that is always last to be published.

I am on first names terms with the gentleman in the education department at the council!!!

Yes the T/A's are on the hop, the release was moved forward a week from the 1st March, at the last minute, I am too very frustrated that the schools do not publish their holidays more in advance but I think I have booked correctly to avoid it for 09, this year we come back overnight an arrive back the day before so that was/is close.

Find out who your local councillor is and chair of education committee. Message to them will ensure that officers provide the information. Especially embarassing if neighbour LEA's provide web updates

I rang last week for a quote for a split stay with AKL and HRH. The chap I spoke to said he could quote for AKL but HRH wouldn't be out till 24th April.

We've been told that our County Council won't be releasing term dates for October half-term until mid-April!

Do they not realise we want to get our holiday booked??!!

It's for our Disney wedding so we just want to be able to tell everyone when half-term week is so we can all get booked in.

I notice that there are no flights available for the Saturday before half-term this year already, I wish our council would just hurry up

I was looking through the advance 2009 brochure today, interesting the Upper class upgrade charges have increased considerably, for example Summer 2009 was £599 pp one way now £775pp one way, kids had a discount of paying 67% of full fare, now 75% of full fare.

Miami has increased in cost as well. Really starting to charge heavy on these, not sure if £5,000 cost for family of four is worth it both ways.

Bradford LEA have published there dates, but there are further 9 days available that the school decided. There are problems sorting out training days apparantly.

I've now written a letter to the school governers.
