You know how the restaurants all over now give you a vibrating pager for when your table is ready? Well, wouldn't that be a great idea if the resorts did the same thing when your room is ready? Now I understand there is a distance issue, so this would be applicable to the guests that tell the clerk they are staying on the grounds (like the pool). What do you think?

Most of them have only a limited range and wouldn't reach to the pool area. You'd probably have to stay in the Hotel lobby or check in building.

If Disney decided to do this, I'd like to see them use something that would extend at least to the limits of the hotel's grounds. Ideally, the "pager" would reach anywhere on WDW, parks and all. Isn't is fun to dream???? :teeth:

Interesting Carol...you'd think in today's technology they could come up with something that would make it easier for the guest to not have to keep calling back. oh well, maybe some day.

Actually the Dolphin used to do this with "real" pagers a couple of years ago. I am not sure if they still do it.

The only problem was not getting the pagers back from the dad when mom was checking in.

It became to costly having to replace pagers every week.

It worked flawlessly other than that one reason.

it sounds simple, but speaking from experience, it always seems like the person who has the pager, isn't at the front desk waiting on their room and keys.

And since this is hospitality, where the guest is alsways right, we accept that the pager will be returned later on.

A large portion of the missing pagers is the guest simply forgets they still have it!

Another idea is to take your cell phone number and call you when your room is ready. We're staying at a resort in southern florida and was told they would do that for our group (office retreat). I think it's a great idea - that way you wouldn't be tied to the resort area!!

They did this at Portofino Bay when we stayed there in August. It was great just getting a call when our room was ready.

C'mon Disney, you don't want Universal Hotels showing you up on customer service!!! ;)

I don't know about pagers for letting you know when your room is ready. It's not like you have to stay at the hotel until it is, and they give you a phone number to call to check from the parks.

But a pager, so that you could wonder around the lobby while waiting for your turn to check in would be cool.

I always seem to miss details in the lobby especially at hotels like AKL and WL because we are always rushing in and out to go somewhere else.

So instead of waiting on a huge line, they give you a number and a pager, and they light the number up on a board and buzz your pager when it is your turn to check in. Then you could really enjoy some of Disney's beautiful lobbies and hotel stores instead of standing on line.

IMHO,

Now let me start by saying that we ALWAYS show up to check in early. BUT, why would Disney spend money and effort just to make it more convenient for folks who show up before the standard 3:00 pm check in time?

Good Point Bob - ITA. I have had two occocaions when I have not been able to check in at the 3 - 4 pm "check in" time. When situations like this occur, once for us at the Poly and another at the BC, this would be a nice soluction. In both cases we pre-checked in about noon, hit a park and returned to the resort around 5ish only to find our room still not ready. Our only special request was non smoking but evidently they were slow to turn the rooms around. In this case I think the pagers would be a much better solution than having the customer use a house phone every 1/2 hour or so.

Personally I've learned to take a change of clothes in my carry-on (if applicable which it most likely will be this trip...going from Chicago to Orlando in mid-October I'm anticipating a little temperature change) so if the room is not ready, I just change, store all my bags and hit a park until closing. By that point the room definitely should be ready since the parks aren't closing pre-3pm! It works for me.

And I realize that traveling with only adults could make a difference...but I make the choice to come in before check-in time knowing that the room might not be available. If it is, that's a bonus. If not, I have a plan that does NOT require me to keep calling back every 5 minutes. When it happened to our family that the room was not ready, I think my dad called ONCE just before dinner and life was fine. If I opted to call, that's what I'd do!
