WWYD scenario! Need some outside opinions.

Ok we have a Carnival cruise booked for this September. Already put deposit down and balance (about $900) is due in July.

We also plan on doing the Disney British Isles cruise in September 2019. Have not put a deposit down yet. I know it’s over a year away but I really want to put down a deposit ASAP to lock in the price. I know it’ll only go up the longer we wait and that trip will be expensive enough.

I have an account for all my SB, Ibotta, Shopkick, etc money (“play” money). This account is solely going towards these trips. But what would you do first? Pay off this years cruise or put deposit down for next year? I’m torn and starting to overthink!

Since it's DCL, I'd do the deposit first. Unless you think the cruise you want will be highly unpopular, it's unlikely it will go down. Better to lock in the rate now and be pleasantly surprised later if somehow a better rate comes out. (but don't count on it)

Edit: Well I assume you would still have the money for this year's cruise by PIF date and that's not in danger. Given that, DCL all the way since deposits are refundable if the unthinkable happens in a couple months (unless you book concierge or suites) and you need that money back for this year.

Has anyone used a $0 prepaid card for offers that require a CC to sign up?

I've got a bunch of used prepaids and wondering if I should hang on to one or two or just shred them all. We used to use them sometimes at work for validating CC fields, which is why I got the habit of hanging on to them. If they might work for offers I'd keep some around but up until now have been unsuccessful so not sure if I'm just wasting space. :)

I would put down deposit before price increase.

I would certainly put the deposit first and don't think about changing rooms. From experience I put a deposit on a cruise and every week the price went up $50. I thought about changing rooms to a veranda instead of deck 2 porthole room but with the price increases decided to change our trip altogether. Refunds from DCL take awhile as well. We're planning on Jan 2020 now in a veranda room and Ill put a deposit down on it asap since the prices only increase.

Did you check the veranda price in your reservation or just on the public site? Used to be you locked in your pricing for all categories when you made your booking so if later you wanted to upgrade to a different category the pricing was if you had booked that category when you made the reservation... or at least cheaper than the going public rate.

My TA said it was $180 to move to veranda. So i dont think it was being price increased but my husband and I discussedif we should go aheead and upgrade or change our plans and do a cruise in 2020 when we could afford the kind of cruise we wanted. We ultimatly decided to do a parks vacation and then use next ys tax return for the cruise. I was having a lot of anxiety over possible sea sickness especially in a deck 2 room.

Ok, that's sound about right then to go from porthole to veranda. Sounds like a good plan to me :) Hubby got spoiled as we got a steal on a balcony for our first real cruise and so he's not willing to cruise if we can't have a balcony or above. I'm ok with that because I only get sea sick inside the ship so I like having access to fresh air. It just means we space out our trips so we can afford what we like.

@miztressuz yeah I was so excited when we booked the cruise but then I began to question sea sickness and while we were booked for midship it was basically the bottom of the ship. If I'm feeling sick it helps me to get cold air on my face so I felt like getting a veranda was the best option for us. Hubby on the other hand started to question the affordability of the trip though so I said we'd wait for a little bit. Although...I sort of regret cancelling though since it seems like such an easier vacation compared to this parks trip. lol
