Realistically, are you still enjoying and using your DVC points? Is it crazy to think of buying in when you are a boomer with a teenager, knowing that in 3 or 4 years it will be just you and DH, and in 20 years or so, you'll probably be giving the points to your kids (if they want to pay the maintenance fees.) (DD14 is all for it!) We just experienced BWI and fell in love with it, and are considering a resale at BWV. Really, I know we could just rent points or reserve a villa every year, but we're still toying with both options. Any opinions are welcome!

My youngest was 15 when I joined. My kids have all used it with their friends and we have taken many family vacations together since 2001. Now that they're older and their schedules are different from mine I have taken a couple of trips with my best friend. My only regret is that I didn't buy sooner. My next trip is planned for the Food & Wine Festival with my 24 y.o. DD! We can't wait.

We have no children. We bring our niece to WDW about every other trip. We just bought DVC and think it will be well worth it. We plan to invite friends and family along through the years. It is my dream that my niece be married at WDW so our DVC point would come in handy then. We think DVC will be more than worth it, even without any children of our own

Our youngest was 21 when we bought in, so we don't think it's crazy at all! We love taking our adult children, friends and other family. Believe it or not, we also really enjoy going just by ourselves too! :cool1: Our "kids" are now 31 and 37. ;)

I do not have children and I purchased in 1998. Despite a *major* change in income (downwards) a few years ago, I still maintain my DVC membership. I go by myself, I take friends, I take family. I'm off to the Hotel Del Coronado in June this year, and then to Orlando in October. Perhaps, monetarily, it would have made more sense for me to sell my membership when my financial situation changed, but it still seems to me that I'm saving money with it.

I was also under 40 years of age at the time I purchased, so I'm not overly concerned with it having several years left in the contract when I die. I actually expect to still be using it on a regular basis when it runs out.

I guess that is what DVC is to me.

Our kids are 13-15 and our thought is:

1) In college and early 20's: Our kids love WDW and I am sure will take the week to have a vacation when they cannot afford it!

2) College Graduation: We have talked about this as a great way to celebrate a graduation! A week with their friends!

3) Marriage / Honeymoon: What a fantastic honeymoon gift for our kids! Or for special anniversarys!

4) Family Get Togethers: When I was young my family used to rent a beach house in NC to have all of the family congregate. Even though I was in college or working I never missed that yearly trip! I think we have a good relationship with our kids - and - I do not think they will ever pass up a week at WDW (no matter where they are in life!).

5) Grandkids: Very scary! But, when it happens what self-respecting Grandparent would not look to indulge their grandchild with trips to the happiest place on earth!

6) Inheritance: When that day comes - our kids will be blessed with our points!

Our thought is that we may give both our kids a small to mid-size contract for college graduation! Just so they can have a chance at the magical vacations that we value as a family so much!

We love what DVC is now! But, we also value all of the exciting possibilities DVC holds for our future!

We bought after our son was married. We've used and enjoyed our DVC with our son and daughter-in-law, and we're planning on great fun in the future with grandkids!

DisFlan

dh and i are justa couple of 'dinks' with retirement on the near horizon and we just bought in sept with the anticipation that a disney vacation is part of our retirement pkg - we can bring family and friends, can treat the college nieces/nephews, can just enjoy a trip together and can leave it to the heirs! it was a perfect match for us.

My husband and I bought into DVC last year. We're both in our 50s.

Next trip in May will be with friends and their teen daughter (they are fellow Disney-holics).

Our trip in October will be with my husband's adult daughter and her best friend (both of them are close to 30 years old).

Our trip in December will just be the two of us.

I'm looking forward to many more trips. Disney hasn't lost its magic for me.

I was wondering the samething (DS 15, DD 13. I am debating a BCV purchase we have been to disney 8 times in past 12 years. We usually stay at a timeshare off site via promos or have stayed at the swan.

Glad to hear it is still enjoyable when kids are older and even by yourself. Great stories. :sunny:

Our youngest was 16 when we bought in. He went with us every year until the college schedule got too tight. He says he is looking forward to going again when things loosen up. The oldest has now had little ones and he has brought the family once and another trip is in the planning stage. Middle daughter is married, no kids and has gone with us once.

DH and I use DVC as our own personal getaway - sometimes not even going in the parks. We always go to the Food & Wine Fest (truly Disney for Grownups!) and have taken friends twice.

It's not just for children!! :goodvibes

My DW and I bought into DVC last year. We're both in our 50s. We have one daughter she's 28 and not hook on Disney like we are. No grandchrilden yet.
Going in May with my sister and her familly of 9. Other times we just go ourselves. Just love being at the world.

I guess we classify as "boomers". We bought DVC in 2002 and took our first trip "home" for my 50th birthday that year. Since then, we went as a family for DS#1's college graduation, and last year, DS#2 and I stayed at the BWV for a week. One thing we like is that owning DVC gives us a "home" to go to on holidays now that the kids are grown and going-last year we were at OKW, this year we're hoping to go to HHI, for Thanksgiving. And we've already told the newlyweds that they can stay at DVC for a week for their 1st anniversary. Although I can't wait to have grandchildren to share WDW with, DVC is great just for the 2 of us.

We bought in after our kids had flown the nest and have not looked back and regretted it once. We loved taking our kids and it was a very sad time on our last family vacation knowing they would be gone by the time we went back down. Fortunely we have those times on tape and in photo albums. When we took our first vacation without the kids it was like a whole new world had opened up and now we just love going and doing "our thing". This May we are taking our son and his family back to WDW staying in a 2 bdrm. at OKW and are looking forward to this first trip with our son,daughter-in-law and grandaughter. Our daughter is too busy having babies(due in Nov.) and taking care of the one they arleady have but we look forward to taking them down in a few years..smjj

My kids were 30 and 28 when I joined. My husband was an actual disney hater (!),
but since we've been able to stay in those wonderful villas, his entire attitude has changed. He loves being able to laze around the room in the morning and if he wants, sit on the balcony and stare at people, go to the park in the early evening for some entertainment and just relax instead of the kamakazie route. It's great for me because I can walk over to Epcot and do my 'thing' (shop) and he's not misreable and I'm not misreable. I put the timeshare also in the kids names and neither have shown any interest in using it.

My significant other (48) and I (49) just bought in Feb of this year. between us we have a 29 yo, 22 yo, 21 yo and a 19 yo... we are both young at heart but our first reaction to this was : wow, wouldn't this be great for our kids??!

I am coming in May with my 22 yo daughter, my significant and I are bringing his ( very recently) widowed Mom for her first visit here ever in Oct , my sister and I are celebrating our birthdays in January.. and to boot, our anniversary is Halloween which is also his favorite holiday so we will be here every year to celebrate!

we will be coming to Disney until we can't anymore and I also see a college graduation gift, a possible honeymoon ( if any of them ever gets married!!) and endless more trips to come... the possibilities are endless :teeth:

buy in, you won't regret it! Michelle

first of all WDW is not just for kids....

look around next time you are in the parks - more adults are there than kids...

if you can enjoy WDW at all ages - then you can definitely enjoy DVC at all ages...

I am single I brought in 93 and I still love both DVC and WDW....

I don't see that changing just because I don't have kids.

now sometimes I bring my niece with me.

but when she is not there I probably have more fun - because I am not worried about her....

WDW is a safe place to escape the world....so it is very, very popular with adults as well as kids. DVC is just like WDW an escape. You can be a kid again if you want too. Or you can just have a good time in a fairly safe enviorment.... which believe me is getting rarer in this world.

WDW and DVC is for everyone.... :grouphug:

We just bought in January and we are 48 and 50 years old. Our children are all pretty much grown...youngest is 19. We are planning our first trip home with our 2 granddaughter at Christmastime this year. Also have another trip planned for the marathon with our 22 year old daughter. I'm sure we will get lots of use out of it and already wishing we had bought more points! Wish we had bought when the kids were a lot younger...but that's okay because it's me that really loves being there so I bought this for me!

I bought in as a single female never planning to have kids. (Personally about half the time I think I have a much better time then the families I see screaming at each other!)

We bought when I was 49 and all kids out on their own or in college. My son and I go the most often because of other family members jobs, schedules, etc. And I have gone by myself.
You don't have to have kids to enjoy WDW or be with anyone to have a great visit. I will go every year with or without family!
