What is your opinion about the all these shows about New Jersey, i.e Real Housewives, Jersey Shore, Jerseylicious and now Jersey Couture? Do you think it is an accurate portrayal of people from New Jersey? I know alot of it is embellished, but would you say any of it is true.

I am from originally from South Jersey, about 20 mins outside of Philly and nothing in those shows even comes close to what I know New Jersey to be.

Most of the people on those shows live somewhere other than Jersey. Neither I nor my friends are anything like that. I think those shows are ridiculous

I don't know ANYONE like those people..and the Jersey Shore people aren;t even from NJ..

I didn't think they were.

I live in Boston now and most people really think that all people from Jersey are like this and can actually be a little insulting. For awhile my response would be just that people I was around growing up weren't like that. Now I just say I'm from Philly (which I did live in PA for several years and went to school in Philly). Makes it so much easier.

I was just wondering if there are actually people like this from Jersey and if maybe a just lived a really sheltered life in South Jersey.

Back in college there were a few people from NJ that I met that reminded me of these people. Not all though.

On Jerseylious, the lady Gayle and Kristy do live in NJ. My hairdresser here in PA is really good friends with her. She went to the premiere of the show.

I also live in South Jersey (same distance from Philly as kwelch) and those shows annoy the crap out of me. I do not think that any of those shows gives an accurate picture of NJ.

Mkrop...:snooty: LOL

Any? Sure, you will find SOME people like that, but certainly a very small percentage. Of course, these shows make it seem like a majority of us are like that. It's so far from the truth!

Way up here in the rural part north Jersey, the people I know are very down to earth, humble, always willing to help a friend or neighbor, just great people.

I wasnt talking about you my dear!:flower3: But Felicia certainly reminds me of a few...

I only watch Real Housewives, and they represent a very small percentage of people from NJ. Yes, I do know many men exactly like Theresa's DH, I know many with the accent (I cracked up with the Gia "say coffee" scene). I live about 15 minutes from these women. BTW, the local rumor is that Theresa is in danger of losing the house, because she spends too much (there a people here who have a second degree of separation from these families).

I also live in Northwest New Jersey and I don't know anyone like any of these people. Partly because some of them don't actually live in NJ (Jersey Shore) and partly because I think they go out and try to find the most "stereotypical" people they can...I mean, really, after "The Sopranos", everyone thinks NJ is like that.

I did, however, know plenty of people from Brooklyn and Staten Island who are a lot like the Jersey Shore people. Hair, clothes, mannerisms, speech inflections...the whole lot.

I sadly know a few women I grew up with much like the Real Housewives... but mostly due to the fact that I grew up in Saddle River, NJ. Quite a few people there like that.

I really don't like the shows, and the "Jersey Shore" is completely disgraceful.

I grew up in RI and all of the Jersey people could have just as easily come from there. Not all Rhode Islanders are like that but we had some pretty colorful folk!

Now I am in NC and if they wanted to do a redneck show....that might be us or some of the people.

People seem to catagorize people into little boxes like that. I think it's easier for them to think when they do that.

.

I do have to say, I know a lot of people who could be in the sopranos. A lot of it was filmed locally, the accents are dead-on, and I know many families who run vending machine companies, and waste removal companies (and some who've done jailtime, like my parents' next door neighbor).

I have lived my entire life in jersey and I never watch these shows. I hate how they portray NJ. There is more to NJ than those shows portray.

I'm not from Jersey but I've lived here for the past 13 years. Yes, I know one family that could be in the Real Housewives show...otherwise no. I live in one of the most upscale counties in the State (Somerset) but everyone I know is pretty down to earth whether they live in a big mansion or in a normal house (like ours).

It is my understanding that most of the Jersey Shore characters aren't even from Jersey. My DH is from Bergen County (Upper Saddle River) and he says that he didn't know anyone like people on the Housewives Show but did know a couple of kids from his high school that could have been straight out of the Sopranos.

DO NOT LIKE THEM!!!! They seem to give NJ a bad name,
I especially hate Jersey Shore.....go pick on some other
state!!!;)

Its been well reported Teresa and her husband filed bankruptcy and their house is currently on the market for something like $3.9 mil.

Agreed...and i've lived in NJ for 99% of my life and don't think I act, sound or behave like any of these folks on these shows. I do have to say, though that Seaside Heights/Seaside Park where the Jersey Shore show is filmed does cater to a certain crowd. That being said, my kids and I like that boardwalk the best - there is the most to do.

This is what I kind of figured. Like most stereotypes there will be some truth to it but it won't be as exaggerated as it's made out to be.

A friend of mine is getting married in Point Pleasant this summer and not really seriously we asked her fiancée, that is from that area, if it will be anything like the Jersey Shore Show. He said there will definitely be some people that belong on the show but they will be the exception not the rule.

Me too, but we don't talk about that :rolleyes1

The Jersey Shore people, as others have said, aren't even from the Jersey Shore. However, I live at the Jersey Shore and we do get a lot of NYers here in the summer and some of them are exactly like what you see, especially the ones that go to the bars/clubs after the sun goes down.
