We are flying on one of these aircrafts in July. Will all the seats have TV'S in them and will we need to purchase headphones to use them? Can anyone tell me how much the headphones are? Just wondering is it worth taking our own portable DVD for the children?

From what I have read and heard, the planes all have seat back tv's now.

I was going to ask about headphones too, does anyone know if regular headphones work? I remember flying with Airtours once and they sold special headphones with two pins instead of one so you had to buy them on the plane!

They are 2 pins. You can get 1 to 2 pin converters though.

i'm flying with thomas cook a330 too to orlando from cardiff international in 3 weeks time.

however....

we booked a chartered flight with thomas cook only to find out our flight numbers started with "MON..." so we checked this out. it turns out we are flying with thomas cook, but not on a thomas cook actual plane. the plane we are flying on is owned my monarch airlines and thomas cook have just hired it by the looks of things (after all thats what charter flights are)

i'm kinda disappointed though because we paid thomas cook the price of a flight being told that all seats would have TVs, but now we have heard that the monarch planes that they use do not. i feel a little ripped off. i'm not sure if thomas cook only use monarch to fly from cardiff...i know thomas cook hire planes from another company too: "my air" (i think thats the correct name)

while reviews about monarch SCHEDULED flights are good, the reviews about their CHARTER flights are not so complimentary - therefore we dont really know what to expect - could infact be 9 hours of hell (but who cares, we're of to disney!!!!)

so a jay....which airport you flying from and do u know the first 3 letters of your flight number? if it starts with a "T", each seat will definitely have a TV.

Beth

We are flying from Manchester in July (24th to be exact). Going back manymonths we booked through First choice and should of been flying with My Travel , however a few weeks ago i got a letter to say that My Travel and Thomas cook have joined forces. We now fly with Thomas cook and i've checked our flight numbers and they do start with a T. But does anyone know how much ear phones are on these flights? I know what my family are like once they step foot in the airport, duty free shopping!!!

You are better buying something like this adaptor for your own headphones.

You can probably get it cheaper if you shop around.

Ok, so i know i'm being very stupid, but before i go out and buy these adapters, i need a 2 pin adapter? or can you buy one that converts from2 to 1. Or can some one 100% confirm that i will need a 2 pin adapter?

Apparently the headphones are £2.50 (unless traveling premium where they are free)

Hi BethEJo,
we're flying from Cardiff to Sanford next week and our flight is with Monarch, but they are using an Airbus A330 plane. Add to that the fact we booked with Travel City Direct and our tickets (received this morning) are stamped 'Thomas Cook' and I begin to understand why these companies get confused. ...I'm still scratching my head. :confused3
Steve.

same with us. we booked with co-op travel and have TC tickets and a monarch a330 plane.

by the looks of it, all the planes leaving Cardiff and arriving at orlando are Monarch.

only fly out once a week and thomas cook are the only operator to fly direct to orlando from Cardiff.

Hehe talk about confusion :worried:

Sorry to say i have not heard good things about Monarch. have you upgraded to premium? we would have liked too but its just extra money again haha! we're just gonna stick to basic economy. shame about the lack of seat back TVs, particularly because TC advertise having them on their flights :(

It looks like I'll be departing, as you arrive back in Cardiff! we'll have to compare "monarch experiences" :lmao:

by the way!! i hope you have a lovely time!

Beth

Thanks Beth, same to you all. We've flown with Monarch many times and found it to be an 'average' sort of experience - neither good nor bad.
We are flying Premium class this time, as it's my 50th on the 10th of June.
We've only ever upgraded a Florida flight once before and that was upstairs on a Jumbo jet. It was around ten years ago. We got to the check-in desk in Cardiff, asked whether there were any upgrades available, and were told 'yes' ...and for just £45 each!!! I think the days of getting cheap upgrades like that are all but gone now.
Steve.

aw that's lovely. 50 at disney!!

again - make sure u have a fab time! i'm sure you will! celebrate in style man! i couldnt think of a better way...

hope you dont mind me asking, but how much did it cost for you to upgrade to premium? sorry if thats cheeky...

Not at all. I think it was £199 each. Which is horribly over-the-top for what you actually get with Monarch ...but there you go. :)
Steve.

Can anyone give me any feedback on the Cardiff / Sanford flights booked with Thomas Cook, please?

I've seen a good price for TC next year, assuming it would be on TC plane. If it's with a Monarch plane, I'm not so sure :confused3

We have flowm Monarch from Gatwick to Calgary skiing several times - both economy and premium - an 11hr flight!!:scared1:
Economy is ok - actually fairly good leg room and food, but there were no seat back tv's. Staff always very helpful.
Premium - better leg room and food - proper cutlery - and seat back tv's.

The main problem with the economy is that the tv's are someway up the aise - it might be worth thinking about getting a portable DVD player? Even if you have the seat back TV's sometimes they show rubbish films!

The good thing about the charter flight is you generally get people going to do the same thing - ie our flight was full of skiiers, all in good moods, no-one geting drunk, etc.
On a BA plane back from Calgary - a scheduled flight - a child cried the WHOLE flight - 2 rows behind us, and there was a VERY wide mix of people - lots of families going to Pakistan with LOTS of luggage!

So a charter flight full of families going to Orlando would probably have the same kinda "feel good" feeling on board - fingers crossed!

Have booked Thomas Cook premium for next year - have heard good reports - and keeping fingers crossed too.

apparently im flying out on airtours/mytravel but back on thomas cook A330

talk about squeezing money out of us, as if the holiday doesnt cost enough, oh well we have 1 pair of those 2 pronged ear phones i think but i think ill take the dvd player for the wee one just incase.

We booked flights with direct holidays, they sold to thomas cook, now we are going with monarch, I think they all own each other these days?? from newcastle.

I just plug my normal headphones into the 2 pronged thing and you get music in one ear:confused3 I have bought hundred of those dar things over the years and have been given hundred I aint buying any more!!
