This year's points or next years for cruise?

Just curious if anyone knows if I try to book a cruise for sometime in 2004 now, does DVC use my points from 2003 or from 2004? Trying to figure out if I have to bank any points from this year or if I can just use all of this years points so that we don't lose them.

It will depend on your Use Year. If you have a Sep Use Year- a Jan '04 cruise could use banked points from 2002, current points from 2003 and borrowed points from 2004.

If you have a Feb Use Year and want a March, 2004 cruise, you'd need to bank the 2003 points to use them for the 04 cruise.

To say it another way, the points you want to use must be valid for the dates of the cruise. What use year (2003 or 2004) does your desired cruise fall into?

Let's say your cruise is in April, 2004. You need to figure out which use year contains April, 2004. It could be your 2003 use year or your 2004 use year.

For example, if you have a February use year, a 4/04 cruise would fall within your 2004 use year (which is 2/1/2004 - 1/31/2005). If you have an August use year, an April ,2004 cruise would fall within your 2003 use year (which is 8/1/2003 - 7/31/2004). You can do the same type of "figuring" for your specific situation to see which use year "contains" the dates of your cruise.

Once you know "the use year of your desired cruise", you can determine whether you will need to bank or borrow points to pay for it. You can always book/reserve 11 months ahead of departure when you use points.

WE are use year Feb and want to cruise May/04. Thanks for the information. We just sent for the video so that we can get even more excited. It's not that I have been unaware of the cruise, just that I'm a chicken of going on a boat! Got lost at sea on a sightseeing ship when I was a kid and never got over that fear.
