I think the OP might have this a little confused. I don't think this will be some sorta of Disney Idol Competition judged by Cast members in the park. It sounds like the winners will be randomly selected through a process that does not involve "competing".

Secondly, it sounds like there are some great ideas that Disney is doing, and a lot of it is stuff that already takes place, which people don't know about. Just this week alone I read a post where pirates rode with a family on POTC and where two children were pulled out to bring up the back of a parade in MK. It seems Disney is cleverly bringing focus to alot of the cool stuff that already takes place at Disney.

Finally, I see no way that the chance of getting a magic fastpass(although that would be awesome to have) or perhaps open up the park is enough incentive to drop down the $$$ for a spur of the moment vacation.

I feel the promotion is a great business venture for Disney, and that is what Disney is must be concerned with, for me its enjoying my vacation where I love to be. I won't be scheduling additional trips just to try and get selected to be part of the promotion, I'll continue to enjoy my trips, and if it happens it happens, a bonus. DW and I got to open Epcot one day, that was great, it made our trip. We were happy with that, so if some pixie dust happens to comes our way again, we'll take it, but we'll let it come to us.

Many years ago Disneyland had a promotion where every guest entering the park won a prize, usually a free snack, but once we got a free child's admission. It's more likely that the new promotion will work like this. Plus, it sounds like they'll have random things like pirates on POTC from time to time.

First off I am not confused. I do in fact agree that it is a brillant idea on Disney's part to increase sales. As well, I agree that it is a really good promotion to draw more people to Disney. I just hope people are not rude in their quest to have a wish come true. It would be nice to see that whoever or however they grant the wishes that they go to people who don't expect it or to the people who deserve it. Kudos to the people at Disney who come up with these wonderful ideas. And in agreement with an earlier post that we can not forget the magic that is already received thru out Disney....signed b-day cards, opening day family, riding with goofy the list goes on. I've already had my wish come true and that was seeing the looking on DD face when she saw her favourite character Alice in Wonderland for the first time.....it brought tears to my eyes and that my fellow DISers is Priceless!!!

Not to be a party-pooper, but this really is one of the cheapest marketing tactics Disney has done in recent memory. They aren't offering anything 'new'. they are just offering some things already in the works and some things the general public don't know about en masse, and they're calling it a 'celebration'.

The chances of winning anything of real value are so slim it would be laughable, save for the fact it isn't funny. I can't imagine anyone shelling out real cash money they would not already have been shelling out, just on the off chance they were the one in 250,000 that day who were chosen to sleep in the Castle. My guess is, the queues will not be noticably longer due to this particular 'magical year of wishes'.

PS: I'm not whining, I'm just calling it as I see it.

Going to WDW is just enough for me! I think it will be really cool to maybe be picked for a prize...but if I don't get picked, I will not mind. I would even be happy to see someone else get picked....how special for them!I really hope that whoever wins will be a member of DIS so that we all can share in the excitement!!

I hope they do some of this random choice by computer, say, when a ticket gets read by the turnstile, and not have some poor cast member have to choose so they can get berated by whoever didn't get picked.

I was thinking the same thing. Now that it is public knowledge that there exists a "Royal Suite" in Cindy's castle, can't you just see someone with all the money in the world trying to buy their way in? Hey, maybe after the promotion they could offer it (for mega $$$) as a honeymoon suite!! Could you imagine!!!

I don't see anything wrong with this marketing plan. It's just Disney capitalizing on the "Magic" of Disney. And that's certainly my reason for going so often. And I would just CRY if I were picked to stay in the Castle. Are you kidding me?!

BTW - I already had a trip planned, so clearly I don't need any special promotions to make me book a trip

As someone who has had the pleasure of being chosen to be Grand Marshal of the MK afternoon parade, I can say that being selected was very low key. It really was just a right-place-at-the-right-time kind of thing that could have happened to anyone. Even though there were lots of people around, nobody else really knew what was happening and therefore there was nothing to complain or act up about. I would think that other dream "bestowing" could be handled as diplomatically.

I tend to think that whomever gets picked, as described in previous post, will get picked in a quiet manner. Imagine if you got picked going through the turnstile for a night in the Castle or Golden Fastpass and it is a big presentation award right there and the the family behind the winner starts complaining that the winner broke in line in front of them and they should have won and all the sudden people are screaming at each other about who should have won. Probably not the kind of "Disney Moment" the marketing people would be striving for.

I can tell you that getting selected to participate or do something special is extremely memorable. Last Spring my DD6 got selected to start the Spectromagic parade. Personally, I had never seen that before. They just her out of the crowd along the street near the front entrance. They taught her a dance. When they were ready to start she did the dance with two parade Marshalls. Once the dance was over all the lights along Main St. went dard. The doors opened to start the parade. Then they proceeded to lead the parade around the circle and down Main St. My DD6 was so overwhelmed. She still talks about it today.

I think this promotion (I don't think we should refer to it as a Celebration) will be good; however, I don't think it will make people want to visit when they weren't planning a trip to WDW. I believe it will get people who were already planning a trip more excited, but to get people to drop everything and go...That maybe difficult.

I think somebody mentioned this before. This promotion is a good bridge between the Happiest Celebration on Earth and the next Disney park celebration (Probably EPCOT's 25th Anniversary in Oct. 2007). That celebration will probably only be associated with WDW and not the other parks worldwide.

I was glad to see Disney announced a new Monster's Inc ride attraction to replace the Timekeeper in Tomorrowland. I kind of wish they would have put the Monster's Inc. attraction at MGM. They need some new rides at that park. Rumor has it that a new Toy Story ride attraction will be opening at MGM in 2008 where Al's Toy Barn currently resides. Let's hope that happens.

As a public for profit company, Disney has a responsibility to it's shareholders to drive revenues and profits. And there's nothing wrong with that. Our entire capitalist system is built on this premise.

I'm often surprised by people who are disillusioned by Disney acting like a company instead of their fairy godmother. I think this promotion is brilliant, in that it should drive attendance, but only incur minimal overhead. I will act no differently on property than I do now, since my chances of being selected to win anything are probably 1 in 250000 every day.

If I do win something, I will have a memory for a lifetime. An that's what Disney sells.

Actually, I don't think your odds are that bad. If you figure a million wishes split between Disney World & Disney Land. That is 500,000 wishes per park for the year. If they distribute them evenly during the year that is (500,000/365) about 1,370 wishes granted per day, per park. That's not so bad. Your chances of winning the lottery are a LOT worse!
