This Whole Dreams Come True Thing

As someone who has had the pleasure of being chosen to be Grand Marshal of the MK afternoon parade, I can say that being selected was very low key. It really was just a right-place-at-the-right-time kind of thing that could have happened to anyone. Even though there were lots of people around, nobody else really knew what was happening and therefore there was nothing to complain or act up about. I would think that other dream "bestowing" could be handled as diplomatically.

As another Grand Marshal, I totally agree. We have had a lot of other unexpected surprises over the years. Sitting on the curb, freezing: A cm walked up and handed us Hot Chocolate. Asking to look at a CM's Pins: ended up getting a coupon for lunch on them. Turning in a lost Seasonal Pass: getting coupon for popcorn and pop during Spectromagic. CM giving us pixie dust and having us turn out the lights for Spectromagic. Dapper Dans asking us to sing with them. My son who visits from out of state is always amazed at the things people "give" to us. I get numerous special "dreams" every day I spend in the MK.

One of my favorite Main Street characters once said you get from the park, what you bring to the park. Bring you smile and happiness and you will get it back whether there is a contest or not.

I read through the hews stories from the links here on the DIS, and it doesn't sound to me like the CMs have any power. Disney is working with a consulting firm to determine the best way to achieve "random" selections. Acting like an idiot (or NOT acting like an idiot) won't increase your chances for big prizes.

Unfortunately there are always some people who don't quite *get* that. . . They think that since the person they're talking to is a "representative" of the company, they should be able to do anything or be blamed. Kinda like how you hear people going off on the poor guy working at the gas station for minimum wage like he has something to do with the prices. There are always going to be people that will expect big things from the CMs who have daily guest contact.

I love this! I think this sort of thinking should be practiced in everyday life! Enjoy the moment for what it is. Thanks!

I'm going to be there during the "celebration" as well, and I think it's a great idea. I doubt it will affect the attendance at the parks in a major way, and the more magic the better! :thumbsup2

It is possible to REQUEST a dream. I keep a list of new things I want to try on future vacations and often ask, politely, a CM if such a thing might be possible. I have requested to be a Phone a Stranger and was shocked to hear the CM say she was delighted to have a 'volunteer'. I am planning on asking if we could ride in the AK parade on our upcoming trip where we will be celebrating our anniversary. I might get my dream fulfilled, I might not. It will be fun anyway and some requests just take longer. :wizard:

Can you imagine that some CM's might be offered bribes if they are allowed to pick who gets a WISH?? :confused3

Slightly Goofy (who bought a lottery ticket after reading that I had a far better chance of winning that rather than this) :cheer2:
