This Whole Dreams Come True Thing

Am I the only one feeling kinda sad about it. I think that it is going to drive people to act and do things that they normally wouldn't do just to get the attention of a CM to maybe just maybe receive a Dream Come True from the CM. I guess we'll have to wait and see exactly what it is all about. I hope that people aren't going to flock to Disney just so that they may have a chance to win something. I think that Disney might even become more crowded with this new 'Theme'. I am going to be there on the last day of the 'Celebration' theme I wonder if anything exciting is going to happen on that day. I guess I'll just have to wait and see what exactly is going to happen with this Dream Come True theme before I decide to book my next trip! Seriously though, am I the only one thinking like this?

Actually, I was thinking along the same lines. I was thinking how I would not want to be a CM during this time. That people will be flocking to them in droves trying to get their own wishes. We all have wishes, but that is what makes them so special, the fact that they may never come true but if they do by CHANCE! That's why I would never ASK to be grand marshall of a parade or any like that. I want it to happen by chance. Otherwise it would take a little of the magic away for me.

As a public for profit company, Disney has a responsibility to it's shareholders to drive revenues and profits. And there's nothing wrong with that. Our entire capitalist system is built on this premise.

I'm often surprised by people who are disillusioned by Disney acting like a company instead of their fairy godmother. I think this promotion is brilliant, in that it should drive attendance, but only incur minimal overhead. I will act no differently on property than I do now, since my chances of being selected to win anything are probably 1 in 250000 every day.

If I do win something, I will have a memory for a lifetime. An that's what Disney sells.

We were planning on going in March before we heard about the promotion. I think there might be a small number of people that act out to get attention, but mostly it will be people like me who were planning on being there and having a great time anyway.
Going to WDW just for the off chance that you'll be selected out of thousands of people for a promotional prize is quite a risk to take when you consider how much the vacation costs.

I'm not telling my daughter about the "dreams" to be given out. She'll be too dissappointed if she doesn't get one (doesn't really understand about probabilty and statistics). I hope the promotional videos and commercials don't put and emphasis on the BIG "dreams" maybe just mention them, and put more focus on the attainable "dreams".

This is a brilliant promotion. Looking forward to it.

Disney has hit the jackpot with this one. People will come in droves for the tiniest chance of being picked.

Personally, if I was a CM choosing winners, I would ignore the showboaters and choose someone just casually walking around. And I'd choose families with kids, elderly folks, solo tourists, everyone would get a shot.

Personally, I don't think there is any way that who gets what would be left up to a park CM. It's likely it will be based on turnstyle randomness or some kind of wandering special (undercover) person. There would be too much chance of giveaways going to friends, hot girls/guys, etc. Anything more than your normal free popcorn would not be put in the hands of the standard CM.

I know there are some biggies - like sleeping in the castle, but I wonder how many of the smaller "dreams" are things that are already taking place. Opening the park, waking Tink, walking in the parade, riding the Barnstormer with Goofy, room upgrades - that sort of thing. Think of how many magical things happen on a daily basis as it is.

I read through the hews stories from the links here on the DIS, and it doesn't sound to me like the CMs have any power. Disney is working with a consulting firm to determine the best way to achieve "random" selections. Acting like an idiot (or NOT acting like an idiot) won't increase your chances for big prizes.

DH and I talked about the new promo last night and this morning. I can't imagine someone spending thousands upon thousands of dollars to go to WDW because they might randomly be chosen for something. I am not planning additional trips, and the promo alone wouldn't be enough to make me plan more trips! We have never been able to go during Free Dining - THAT would make me plan an extra trip. If I got some ridiculously low price on airfare - then we would plan another trip. Going to Disney on the VERY SLIM, off chance that I might win a free cupcake seems silly, because your chances of winning a free cupcake are probably equal to your chances of winning a night in the castle.

I hope it doesn't dramatically increase crowds. I hope it enhances the experience for the people who were already going to be there.

This is a great disney idea! I can't wait to visit next year. After reading the article from the Orlado Sentinel, I am even more excited.

I agree with the others so far who've posted that dreams are meant to come true by chance if at all, and that asking for them may possibly take away from that. But at the same time, I cant help but to ask for *special treatment*, if I think Ive got a shot, Id be a fool not to. I also dont think people who werent already planning a trip would likely really go, just based on a remote chance. The real prize is a great family vacation, special treatment or not
