This Was the Feast-A Most Certainly True Lutheran Food Review-4/26-The End

Great review - you've inspired me to give Narcoosee's a try on our next trip!

Thanks for all the details and pictures :goodvibes

I hope you do give them a chance. They get a lot of bad press on the DIS, but I enjoyed my experience.:)

Great Yachtsmen's review! The lobster bisque and desserts look wonderful. I'd love to find someone who had actually tried that gnocci dish. It sounds really good.

Your review of the Yachtsman is really making me look forward to our dinner there at the end of the month. I switched our ADR from CRT to Yachtsman because we really are in it for the food, and it looks like I made the right choice!

If you are in it for the food, then CRT is not worth 2 credits. CRT was fun but, Yachtsman is more filling.;)

Bravo on the amazing dining review-so nice to have an experienced opinion :flower3:! I'm sad that you had such a poor experience at Coral Reef-we have never been to WDW and are taking our first trip in May 2011-Coral Reef is on the list...maybe I will be okay (with my inexperienced palate and all :lmao:)!

Congratulations on the engagement-the two of you make a beautiful couple!

Main Street Bakery
Breakfast
Disney159.jpg

There was a morning during our trip when my fiancée did not wish to get up early and go to the parks. I decided to take advantage of this and go to Extra Magic Hour at the Magic Kingdom. We skipped our Tusker House breakfast that day and I headed to the Main Street Bakery for a bite around 9:30am. By that time, my fiancée called and said she was en route to the park. I was in line at the bakery for about 30 minutes, and was able to get her what she wanted for breakfast. I have to say, this eating establishment is set up for efficiency, but it is a few of the customers who are inefficient. While waiting in line, I was given a plastic menu with pictures, prices, DDP logos and meal combo information on them. Bottled beverages and fruits are clearly displayed as well.

For the most part, everyone moved quickly and had their decisions made well before getting to the service window area. There was a family of about eight, though that held the line up for ten minutes and nobody else was served. Frustration was not only expressed by my fellow guests (who grumbled in a variety of languages-I like that you can meet people from all over the world at WDW), but also clearly visible in the facial expressions of the cast members serving the food and ringing up the orders at the cash register. They are only human, even though they are Disney humans. All I ask of my fellow WDW guests is to be conscious that others wish to purchase the delicious baked goods as well.
Once that family cleared out of the line, it moved very quickly. The food serving people moved quickly and courteously. Everything was clearly labeled. The volume of guests being served meant there was fresh food being brought out constantly.

I ordered a bagel with cream cheese, cinnamon roll, and picked up two bottled waters & a banana. I used all snack credits and this was no problem. It is important to note that seating is at a premium in this establishment. I found some chairs against the back wall of the restaurant, and sat in one while hooking my foot to the other. People were guarding chairs and tables with aggression, and not being nice to those who asked politely if an empty chair was being used. I had to be very conscious of leaving the seat to toast my bagel. There was a conveyor toaster available next to the napkins which is labels “bagels only” probably because somebody decided to put a cheese Danish or croissant in at and started a fire, or at the very least, a bunch of smoke. This place makes your local Starbucks at morning rush hour look like a quiet retreat.

My fiancée arrived about a minute later, and we enjoyed our breakfast. We then moved on. In my opinion, this is not a place to sit around and have a leisurely cup of coffee.
I thought the food was yummy, and the portions very large. My cinnamon roll remained warm and soft, and the bagel was easily enough for two to share. The bottles water was well chilled and the banana was the most perfectly yellowed banana I had ever seen.

I would probably not go back to the Main Street Bakery unless the line was minimal. This is not because of food quality, but because there are many Disney Standardized Bakery Items available at the food courts of most of the resorts.

I think it is a timing toss-up of waiting in line and hawking for a table on Main Street versus leaving a little later for the Magic Kingdom from having a continental breakfast at the food court of your Disney resort of choice. If I were not on the meal plan, and staying off-site, I would not bother either, because breakfast yummies are available all over the Lake Buena Vista Area. There are four Panera Bread stores within 11 miles of WDW, all on major exits, plus lots of grocery stores if you have a kitchen with your rental unit.
The Main Street Bakery has nice baked goods in a frenetic environment at breakfast time. I cannot vouch for lunch and dinner. Go if you must, but be prepared to spend much precious park time here during the easiest time to ride attractions.

haven't made it there for breakfast... but I usually make it there later in the day at least once in my trip for the homemade ice cream sandwiches!!!:goodvibes

We were in there very, very late at night last year. It is upsetting to read about rude folks at Disneyworld. As my husband said the other day, it's Disney...you're going to wait in lines! So very true. Ah well... Glad you enjoyed the food, though. :thumbsup2 I read a few reviews recently on here, Main Strreet Bakery among them, where all they did was trash the Disney food. Didn't give great reasons and then went on to say how they'd ordered a pizza from Papa John's! :confused3 Point being, while everyone is certainly entitled to their own opinion, it makes your knowledgeable, thoughtful reviews that much more enjoyable. Thank you for sharing them with all of us. :goodvibes

Thanks for your compliment. Your husband is exactly right. Mass humanity requires lining up to get what you want. I don't mind waiting for stuff, even a ride line is more than O.K., but it is when the lines don't move is when I think people get frustrated. I should note that the family in my review didn't seem to be holding up the line "on purpose" but rather, I think they were just oblivious, caught in the moment, and from an area of the world where business transactions of any kind are taken at a much more leisurely pace than we do in the good ol' U.S.A. I think experiences like this can be part of the learning that a trip to Disney teaches-the lesson of patience.:)

50’s Prime Time Café

We had ADR’s for the 50’s Prime Time Café on our Hollywood Studios Day. I auditioned for the American Idol Experience and got in the show. We went to the 50’s Prime Time to change our reservation and we had to have it changed until 2:00pm. Well, it was not as easy as it seemed because it was booked pretty solid and the lady at the reservations desk was not listening to us. She had a 2:00pm reservation, and she kept trying to fit us in at other times. We got that straightened out and went back to the AIE for my rehearsal, and as things were, we got moved to a later show and our 2:00pm reservation was no good anymore. Jeff, the AIE manager made it happen for us, and we eventually got seated for lunch at around 3:00. Disney paid for lunch, but it was so late in our vacation that there was no chance of using our remaining meal credits. It was worth the wait. I had been to the 50’s Prime Time café in 1994 as a teenager and enjoyed it then. I enjoyed it again.

This restaurant is just plain fun. There is a family room section that contains a bar and a dining room area complete with trimmings from the 50’s. I feel like Donna Reed and the Beaver are going to sit with me for lunch and Eddie Haskell is in the back yard up to no good. The 50’s TV clips are a lot of fun.

The menu is limited, but there seems to be something for everyone. The menu is available on the Disney.go.com website. I had some sort of Electric Lemonade for a cocktail that came with a light-up ice cube. The drink was sweet and cold and dangerously easy going down the hatch. If I had more than one, I would have seen Pink Elephants on Parade. My fiancée had Sprite. I also had a large glass of water, as I was thirsty from a day of having fun in the parks and going through American Idol rehearsal twice because of the scheduling change.

For appetizers we ordered the crab cake and the wedge salad. The crab cake was tasty and served with a pile of crisply onions. The home-style succotash as a base for the crab cake was a fun idea, and this would have made a nice light lunch with a couple of glasses of wine and a dessert, the quintessential “ladies who do lunch” plate.

The iceberg wedge salad was one of my favorites for the week. The lettuce was served with a healthy portion of blue cheese, blue cheese dressing, crumbled real bacon and garnished with fresh snipped chives. I cleaned the plate.
Disney212.jpg

Our main lunch plates were really generous and quality too. M fiancée had a turkey sandwich on rye that was piled high with turkey and was served with potato chips and a large dill pickle spear. I had the famous fried chicken. I liked it. There was a wing, thigh and a breast on my plate. The chicken was crispy and juicy. The potatoes were pretty good, and although I don’t really care for collard greens, these were done well with a nice smoked pork flavor. I ate everything to avoid getting “scolded”.

Clearly, though, the highlight of the meal was the dessert. With all of the fancy places we ate at during our stay, the dessert at the humble 50’s Prime Time was among the best. We had the Boston Cream Parfait. Wow, was that yummy. It was cold and had chunks of cake, chocolate, vanilla custard. The parfait was crowned with a whole strawberry. This was a case of a well-executed, well-balanced dessert with classic flavors. We had iced-tea spoons to eat it with, and it was gone.
Disney217.jpg

Our servers were fun, and we did not get scolded at all, but yet were entertained. I actually met two gentlemen servers from Fort Wayne, and we had a good chance to chat while our food was prepared. It was not too busy at that time in the afternoon. We were full, happy, and glad we did not have to eat again until the late Hoop-Dee-Doo show after 9pm.
This restaurant executes well within the parameters of the dining plan serving comfort food in good portions at reasonable theme park prices, and although we did not use the Deluxe Dining Plan here because Disney paid, we thought it was a great value for one dining credit.
Enjoy your trip, and say, “Hi” to “Mom” and all the “Cousins” for me. Remember- keep those elbows off the table.

I read a lot of these food reviews and reply to very few. I wanted to thank you for your fun, educated and most importantly honest reviews. Thanks for taking the time to share.

Thank you for your great compliment. BTW, I grew up in Allentown, PA and went to Salisbury Township SD and have relatives in Kempton, Fogelsville & Hellertown.

Thanks for the engagement congrats. I think Coral Reef's main issue is that they aim for the stars with a flagpole-height budget.;)

We were at Narcoossee's that very same night  Gotta love that almond cheesecake!
