I want to be in NYC watching the Macy's T'giving Day Parade. This is a life-long dream of mine! If anyone has ever done this, I'd welcome any advice. We'd drive up ( too expensive to fly the 5 of us up ) and probably spend 2 nights before making the drive back home.

Happy Thanksgiving. I hope you get your dream. Do you enjoy crowds?

Haha! So true! We were there last night and it was craziness!!

No advice for the actual parade, since I've never done it, but if you are going to spend a few nights, I'd definitely suggest going to see the balloons blown up the day before AND go see the Radio City Christmas show (which is what I did last night!). We walked around Rockefeller Center after. It was really nice. Definitely make a few days of NYC out of it. :thumbsup2

We did it for about 15 years as I was growing up & then I did it a few years when I lived on the Upper West Side....

It is really fun and such a wonderful way to bring in the holidays.

Hope your dream comes true!

We've been to NYC before--I've seen the Radio City Christmas show, but I definitely want my boys to see it! My son was just chatting on FB with a friend who is there with his family right now--the crowds got to them so they went back to their room and are watching the parade from their window! I can do some crowds--I just want to experience the energy! I'd love to watch the balloons being blown up--isn't that in Central Park?

Thanks!

Make your hotel reservations early!

I hope you get your dream. :goodvibes

haha - we did this a few years ago, and this is what I told a friend, "Go stand in your hall coat closet and surround yourself with all of your coats. Stick your head out of the closet and turn it so you can just barely catch a small glimpse of your TV set. This is what it will be like watching the parade from the sidewalk.":rotfl:

If we ever do it again I will spring for the hotel package with guaranteed viewing. That would be the only way I would enjoy it!!

It's great to be there during the season, though. Beautiful and nothing like the excitement and energy of the city!

We plan on it in the next few years. From my research, it's an expensive proposition (5 days in NYC at T-Day = 10 days in Europe including airfare). Maybe if DS has kids of his own someday, we can take the g-kids.

We did this last year. Our marching band was in the parade. I watched it from the Central Park/John Lennon Dakota apt complex area - toward the start of the parade route. Others watched it from Times Square around the Planet Hollywood area. I was lucky enough to have a grandstand seat. The others in Times Square of course, had to hold spots on the curb. It seemed to be to be more vibrant in the Times Square area. We enjoyed it immensely. It's something everyone should experience.

Interestly enough, I watched the parade pass by, got back to the hotel in Jersey in enough time to grab a Starbucks and watch on TV our band perform in front of Macys. So I got to see them twice!

Hope you get your wish! I'd start planning and saving now.

I plan on being somewhere else too. I'm tired of the family drama, the snarkiness and the complaining. Next year, I'll be somewhere warm or in Disney.
