I've met many interesting people while standing in Disney lines (which never happens in DMV lines or movie theater lines). Sometimes I think it would be fun to get to know these people just a little more, maybe have lunch and then say goodbye. I guess I think it would enhance the human experience at the parks, a bit different from the "what are the least crowded days, where are the shortest lines, how can I get the most done in the least amount of time" frame of mind we all seem to have while visiting DW.

Bottom line is this - I am a single dad going with my 11-year-old DS and thought it would be interesting to see if anyone traveling at the same time may want to, for a lack of a better term, "do lunch." I figure this is a social experiment more than anything else, reaching out (via this board) to those from different parts of the country, or world, and take an hour or two to learn about them and where they come from.

Before I go any further in this, I wanted to see if the idea intrigues others, or if it's just a little too out there as everyone is happy with the status quo, keeping to themselves and enjoying the holiday with friends and loved ones. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Don't feel odd for broaching such a subject. People often meet through the various forums out there. You always hear about people who meet to watch wishes, eat their way around EPCOT, or share fireworks cruises.

When you going? If we're in the world we'd be interested.

I think it all depends on what kind of a person you are. Personally, I would love this kind of thing, but my DH would rather stick bamboo in his fingernails (you get the idea!) than talk to someone he doesn't know. He is very antisocial. But I like meeting new people and learning about them. Unfortunately, we just came back from our trip, so you'll have to find someone else!!

Have fun!

My daughters and their friend also would like to meet people from anywhere. It would interesting for them, they are so inquiring. (Nosey?) lol We'll be camping for 10 days in June at Fort Wilderness. I know they will be talking to others both there and in the lines for the rides. Myself, I talk to just about anybody, I guess that's where they get it from...haha. Nothing wrong with "doing lunch too" if agreeable to all. It helps that campers are some of the friendliest people out there too. Nothing against anyone else, just an observation about campers as a whole, they seem more open and relaxed. OK now I'll wait for the bashing for saying that....lol

Last October, dh got into a beer seminar at Rose and Crown, sat down with another beer lover - he told dh about the Sam Adams taste -

Fast Forward, we all (his wife, me, dh him) dh and him were all buddy buddy, his wife and I siad "do you Dis"? yep.. turns out they had a dd 1 year older than our dd, but her brother was watching her dd, and would we let us borrow our dd during the Party for the senses? well... yes!!

So, this is making a long story (trust me!!) short...

but we did meet up in an unlikely place- Food and Wine Fest... and it gave dd a "buddy" for one day, a memory she truly cherishes, and mind you I truly believe these girls probably had little in common, but "friendship"

So good for your post!!!

When are you going???

Go over to the dis meet board and you can find meets all the time! I have been to several but we have never been to one at the parks. I know people do it all the time. Also, the community board is a great place to meet people and maybe you could plan something from there.

Also the adult and solo board has a lot of meets planned and a special thread for single parents. There is also a meet for lunch thread. Check it out...not strange at all many dis'ers do it every day!!
