Being new to DVC I don't know alot yet so this might be s stupid question
but can we use our points at resorts like the Polynesian?

No question is ever dumb. Yes, you can use your points at any of the other Disney hotels. It is pretty pricy, points wise. The charts are on line at the member site and in your planning books.

You can, but there is a $95 booking fee and it uses a scary number of points....a Sun-Thurs. night garden view room in the value season is 67 points per night at the Poly.

Just to clarify, you can't use points at ANY hotel.

You cannot use points to stay at any of the value resorts: All Stars or Pop Century.

You cannot use points to stay at any WDW hotel which has an associated Vacation Club component. These then are: BW Inn, Beach Club, Wilderness Lodge, Animal Kingdom Lodge

Ok now I'm confused????
What do you mean we can't use points at WDW Hotel with associated with Vacation Club? I thought those listed above are the hotels we CAN use them on.

we can't use points to stay at those "hotels." the DVC ("villas") rooms may have the same check-in point, but the rooms are in different wings and are set up very differently than the hotel rooms.

so while you can book a villa at the boardwalk villas (BWV), you cannot stay at the boardwalk inn (which is attached to the BWV) on points. you can book a villa on the 5th floor of the AKL in the villas section on points, but never a bunkbed room on the 3rd floor at AKL on points.

You can use your points at all of the DVC resorts...
  • Old Key West
  • Boardwalk Villas
  • Villas at Wilderness Lodge
  • Beach Club Villas
  • Saratoga Springs
  • Animal Kingdom Villas
  • Bay Lake Tower Villas (when it opens)

You can also use your points at...
  • The Grand Floridian
  • The Polynesian
  • The Contemporary (up until BLT opens)
  • The Yacht Club
  • Port Orleans
  • The Caribbean Beach
  • Coronado Springs
  • Fort Wilderness (both campsites and cabins)

You cannot use your points at...
  • The Boardwalk Inn
  • The Beach Club (the hotel side, not the villa side)
  • The Wilderness Lodge (the hotel side, not the villa side)
  • The Animal Kingdom Lodge (the hotel side, not the villa side)

As others have said, the points cost for renting rooms at non-DVC properties is VERY high, plus you must pay a $95 exchange fee. You will be charged another $95 fee each time you need to change the reservation dates. You get much more bang for your buck by booking villas at the DVC resorts, but using them at the WDW hotels can be a good option if you have points to burn or points that will expire or are in reservation status.
