This may be too personal a ? for some....

It is definitly more expensive to eat healthy - fresh fruit, veggies ,etc. We are a family of four and we spend $600- 650 a month. This also includes all cleaning supplies, tp, paper towels, etc.

Our bill has gone up since I have been dieting.

Holy Cow what are some of you guys eating!!
Not meat. Mostly fruits, veggies, meatless meat ;), some chicken, some turkey, perhaps seafood such as lobster tails, scallops, shirmp and mussels thrown in here and there. We aren't big snack eaters either; we rarely drink soda. I do like my wine, but I don't go crazy.

It just adds up. :confused3

That seems low to me since we spend about cose to $400 for 2 of us.

I'm assuming prices vary according to location also. We are in the NY Metro area so I'm sure we are paying more.

We are a family of four and spend about $500.00. That doesn't include eating out which kills us that's at least another $250.

I spend about $600/month for DH and I. That does not include our wine budget, but does include the paper products, cleaning supplies, etc. Every weekend we have family over for Sunday dinner, so there are seven people around the table once a week. We eat a lot of fresh vegetables and good cheese, and I buy organic when I can, so all of that adds up. I also bring my lunch to work every day, and DH does too when he doesn't have a meeting. We eat out maybe once a month (also not included in above budget).

For 4 of us we spend about $100 a week give or take some. Now that includes all the cleaning supplies, paper products and pet food and other misc. things. This does not however include eating out, which we don’t do often but usually add another $50-100 a month to our bill.

We spend about $100 a week so approx. $400 a month on the two of us. But we shop at Super Walmart, so that includes cleaning supplies, paper products, toiletry items and pet supplies. Probably about 3/4 of our bill is food and the other stuff is about 1/4.

but what is your monthly grocery bill? :confused3

We are a family of 6 and I have no idea if I am spending too much on groceries, or if others spend about the same. It seems like every time I'm at the store I walk out with at least $75 worth of groceries. And don't get me started on the bill at Sam's Club!

I guess we spend between $450 and $600 a month on groceries for 6 people, depending on what's happening that month (parties, holidays, etc).
Is that about right? Also anyone have any great money saving tips for your fellow DISers??

ETA: This is strictly groceries, not going out to eat, which is seperate for us and not something we do often. With 6 people even going to eat at McDonalds is expensive.

Same for us. We are a family of 6 (and have had 1 extra teen the past 2 years). I usually spend about $150 or so on my weekly shopping trip. Then probably about $50 on my extra trips.
I know what you mean about the eating out. It can be a killer to the pocketbook :scared:

For 2 of us we spend about $400. That includes eating out, cleaning supplies, pet supplies, and toiletries.

We (family of 5) average around 200 per week, $800.00 per month, and does not include eating out. We are not big meat eater's (mostly fish) either, tons of veg's and fruit. I love to cook, so I try at least 2 new recipes a week. I don't think that what you are spending is abnormal.

Just ran the reports in Quicken, we're a family of 2 adults in Southern California which makes a difference.

Over the past year we're averaging $380/month including alcohol purchases. The last couple of months have been around $200/month since we got some grocery store gift cards at Christmas (I suppose I should include that in Quicken). This is food only, and does not include household or grooming products. Eating out is part of our entertainment budget.

I plan out my meals at the beginning of the week and then buy for those meals. We get frozen chicken at Costco, and try to use sale items. But we eat a lot of fruits and veggies so that adds up. I don't cut coupons since I don't use a lot of processed foods which tends to be what the coupons are for.
