This makes me ill & scared

This poor child and her family. It's like you can't trust anyone anymore...she left the baby with her uncle and probably never gave a second thought to her safety with him. Ughh. I can't believe some people can be such savage animals.

A seven-month-old baby is dead and her uncle is in jail, charged with raping and killing her.

Henry Sunderman is on suicide watch at the Stark County jail.

Investigators say Sunderman cared for 7-month-old Zoey and her three brothers and sisters while their mother was at work.

Zoey's mother, Leslie Sunderman, says, "I went to work that morning and she was fine. She was giggling, playing with other kids. I got a call that she wasn't breathing."

Waynesburg police say the baby was not responding when paramedics arrived at the home on Friday morning after Henry Sunderman called 911.

Zoey died several hours later at an Akron hospital.

I hear stories like that and have a hard time believing them. Not that I'm saying it's a lie, I just don't understand how someone (anyone) looks at a 7 month old baby and thinks to do something like that?
It's is something that I hope to never be able to fathom.
They say he is on suicide watch. Maybe he will try to kill himself and they will look the other way.

I know what you mean - I just can't get my head around it.

Looking at it from an evolutionary perspective, paedophilia with kids (females specifically) approx. 10+ makes sense in the way that that is when they hit puberty and can reproduce. I'm not excusing it (rape is always terrible and traumatic), but I can more get my head around it, if you understand?

But when it comes to very young children it just makes no sense to me whatsoever. I'm glad I don't understand - I don't want to understand. Some similar stories have been reported over here recently and I cannot bear(sp?) to hear about them.

I understand what you are saying. Even with a young kid or a toddler is horrendous enough, but to look at a 7 month old and want to do something to them?? 7 MONTHS!!! It leaves me speechless and literally sick to my stomach.

According to the Canton Repository, "Sunderman's criminal record includes drunken driving, menancing, criminal damaging and endangering, domestic violence and solicitation charges. He was convicted five times for disorderly conduct by intoxication, court records show."

He was left to care (by the mother) to care for her five children, the oldest being 7. The baby's father, Sunderman's brother, is in a correctional institution for failing to comply with police and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, drugs or a combination.

The whole situation is sad.

I don't understand why the mother would leave her kids with someone with that kind of record. I never would have trusted him. Why bother put him on a suicide watch? I doubt that anyone would miss him.
