My older son was into Pokemon at age 5,6,7.................he had figures, cards, bedsheets, blankets, pillows, plushes, you get the idea.
My younger son was born when older was 7. Soon after that older son moved on to YuGiOh. Many garage sales, school giveaways, handmedowns to boy down the street, and goodwill drop-offs later, we have only the cards and some movies left. I thought it was a flashinthepan. NEVER occurred to me that the newborn babe would someday get into it.
Younger ds finds 3 Pokemon chapter books at a garage sale. Much debate ensues about why a child who is not yet reading needs chapter books, but the 15 cent price tag won out, and he got them. And I read them at bedtime.
He then "found" the Pokemon movies.............they had been in the movie cabinet, but not knowing what they were, he didn't care.........until now.
He is now Pokemon crazy. He wants his room Pokemon (I lament the lost bedsheets now), he want Pokemon clothes, Pokemon toys. Sure, he doesn't need them and will live without them. Older brother DID still have a huge stack of cards, so he has those.
So, I think, well, it'd be nice to throw some of the little figures in his Christmas stocking, right? He doesn't have to have EVERYTHING he wants, but a few nice little figures to play act with. Check Ebay, should be able to get some cheap. No! Now everyone on Ebay says they're COLLECTOR'S ITEMS and I have to pay through the nose if I want any for darlin' son. And you can just bet your booties he'll be asking for 'em from Santa!
Sorry for the long post.........I have learned my lesson, never ever to have any more garage sales!
(And, in a bit of a mini-vent, these collectors are making it really hard to meet my kids' Christmas lists..............they always seem to collect the figures, cars, etc that my kids want and then I can't find them in the stores).
