This is a picture from Disney's Hilton Head Resort. This is the "water tower" slide at the pool. This would fit in perfectly with the theming of the resort since it's a swimmin hole kinda thing. It would be a great way to upgrade the pool, keep the kids happy and it would look just great i think! This isn't the greatest picture since it's a little too far away, i think the better ones are on my laptop since it's what i take on vacation but you get the idea!

Its a nice pool, we have swam there before.

People spend alot to stay at the fort these days and they could spruce up that old pool a little.

Do you think the reason that they don't have a theme pool is because river country was and still is there just not open? We loved river country it was never as busy as the other water parks. Maybe they should open river country to everyone staying at fw. Make it one of the perks of staying at the fort.

River Country is DEAD, not coming back, never gonna happen. If the cost to clean it up wasn't so prohibative, you'd see something else in it's place.

Yea, most people surmise that the reason for the unthemed pools at the Fort is because of River Country. When the pools were built River Country was still in full swing, and having fully themed pools would have kept people from going to River Country. Of course, now all that has changed.

And I second this:

I think some new theming at the pool would be great. If there had to be something that didn't thrill me about the Fort, the pool would be it...of course not having peacocks anymore is bad too IMHO.

Thats what i think! This water tank would fit right in to the theming and really, how much would this cost to build? You just can't shut the fort's pool down to redo it so just add TO it and put a simple slide in there.
I know one of the problems at the HH resort is that the pool closes early because of the slide being there. They don't have the lifeguards on duty in the evening and everyone complains cause the slide has to close. It presents a HUGE liability issue.

First of all.... I THIRD the above picture!!

Correction Colson... Fort Wilderness was opened in 1971 with only the Meadow pool. River Country didn't come along until 1976.

When WDW opened in 1971 the only resorts were: Contemporary, Poly & FW. All three had simple, non-desript, non-themed pools. Obviously, the pool at CR & PR have been upgraded and themed. FW only got an additional small pool by the cabins. (Originally, the small pool was reserved for cabin guests, only!)

I believe it is well past time for WDW to do a major update on the pool (s) at the Fort! As far as cost for tearing down River Country, that's really not an issue as they more than made their money off of it, and the demolition would be a tax write-off (loss). Remember, River Country was never included in your FW stay --- there was an additional admission charge. More to the point, there is a contingent of people who would like R.C. preserved as a historical location, as that was the very first water park in the U.S.

When WDW announced they were closing Mr. Toad's Wild Ride at the MK, people crawled out of the woodwork in protest. It actually delayed the change by 2 years. At this point, it's cheaper for Disney to let R.C. rot than to legally fight the "bleeding hearts" who would want it preserved for posterity's sake. If WDW does nothing, then they don't have to do anything!

When the R.C. memories fade, it'll be recycled into something else.

I agree that FW needs to update/theme their pools and that would be ideal. Since they closed RC and DI and added all the trailers they took a lot of the Wilderness out of FW and need to put some of that back in. And now that due to the hurricane damage to the trees it's becoming really stark and not like it was even 5 let along 10-20 years ago when it was great.
