This Is Us- Season two

As for the story line, they've really built up this fire in the plot. And I'm still saying it's too obvious for such a well written show for them to have made this so obvious. I'm still thinking there will be a big twist.

That's what I've been thinking. Way too obvious for this show. Right now, I think Jack gets into a car accident when he goes to pick up Kate at her friend's house. That could explain her guilt...if she stayed home to watch the game like they always did he wouldn't have been in the accident and it would also explain why she always watches the super bowl with her father's urn. She broke tradition by going to Molly's the night of the fire and she'll never do it again.

Agreed. We know for sure there will be a fire but that’s it. They said Jack’s death will be revealed before the end of the season but that doesn’t mean the two are exclusive. Too much pointing to the fire while there’s a lot of little hints before that don’t add up. Just because Rebecca has his things in the car when she drives up to the burnt out house doesn’t mean he’s dead at that point. I’ve taken possession of many people’s belongings while they’re in the hospital. Kevin is not in a cast in the funeral scene. And then there’s Kevin destroying the model airplanes after Jack dies. I would hope the writers wouldn’t be that sloppy to forget these things. While I’m braced for it I don’t think we’ll be seeing Jack die next week.
I think a lot of people are going to be pretty peeved if he doesn't die after the Superbowl. Not that any of us want him too, but the commercial says "all your questions will be answered" and how Jack dies is the biggest question anyone has. If they pull too much of a twist and keep dragging it out, it might backfire on them with some people.

Kate was home when the fire broke out. In the previews they show her yelling from her bedroom and Jack is trying to get to her.

But the preview showed Kate screaming and flames, so it would appear that she was already home when the house was on fire.

OH ok...I don't pay super close to previews because I like to be surprised. I just heard the "all questions will be answered" part.

NEVER MIND. :teeth:

Ooooh, good connection with the urn thing!

Kate was home when the fire broke out. In the previews they show her yelling from her bedroom and Jack is trying to get to her.

But, yeah, I did think she was home.

...Maybe it's just that she's always the one after them to unplug the Crockpot? She feels like if she had stayed home for the game, she would have helped clean up and unplugged it even if Jack thought it was unnecessary?

I know that doesn't really make it her fault, but we do know that Kate is a person who feels things deeply and read a lot into things.

I haven’t posted on this thread before, but I love to read everyone’s thoughts and theories. I also believe there will be a twist to Jack’s death.

Once it is finally revealed, I think I want to go back and watch all the episodes again to see how clues tie together. Others here have mentioned Kevin’s model planes. And I’m trying to remember whether we’ve seen the present-day characters look at photo albums, watch Home movies, etc... or if we just saw those things as flashbacks. I’m pretty sure there have been photo albums. How did those survive the fire? Jack and Rebecca did not have a lot of close family who might have had copies of the photos.

“Does Jack die in/because of the fire?” I think *that* will be answered. I don’t know, I could be way off base but this just seems way too obvious and... off. Why would Rebecca have his belongings? I sincerely doubt he took the time to grab those things while escaping a fire. Miguel doesn’t seem very upset beyond a fire happening. Jack is his best friend, I’d think he’d be a mess. Why is Randall’s girlfriend there? Would Rebecca really be able to function enough to drive if the love of her life was just killed? All these little things just keep bugging me. I’m fully prepared to admit it if I’m wrong but if I am the writers have a LOT of loose ends that need to be tied together.

I'm not saying you are wrong, I am just saying they need to be careful, because people are expecting to see Jack die next week, and if they give some big twist and still don't answer that, it will tick people off. The same way The Walking Dead did with Glenn a few seasons back.

Just thinking “out loud.” I honestly don’t know if I want to be right or wrong. Those previews made me lose it. Maybe it’s just *I* don’t want to see Jack die.

I'm thinking since the show is on after the superbowl something big will happen.

I was thinking that since it's on after the Superbowl they may have a lot of recap in the beginning to help catch new viewers up and then will drop the bombshell at the end. I'm ok with either one. I enjoy the show and am not in a real hurry to find out how Jack died. I like seeing how the past has affected the present lives and choices.

Kate's dog has to play a big part. I have a feeling that they haven't shown us many other clues to how he actually dies though. I don't think it was in the fire. I think they're trying to blindside us here with how it actually happened.

It seems the crock pot people are getting quite a bit of backlash due to This Is Us. Many people are claiming to be throwing away their crockpots.

Dan Fogleman even sent out a tweet:

Taking a moment to remind everyone that it was a 20 year old fictional crockpot with an already funky switch? Let's not just lump all those lovely hardworking crockpots together.

LOL.

I already decided I'm too cheap to throw out a 33 year old crockpot that works fine and has a fully functioning switch.

Being the paranoid person that I am, I always make sure my crockpot has clear counter space around it - no towels, potholders, etc near it. It still makes me nervous leaving it on while I'm not home though so I tend to use it on weekends when I know I can be home while it's running.

I actually put mine down in the sink if I'm leaving the house while it's on. And I'm OCD about unplugging it when I turn it off.

I do this too! I make sure NOTHING is touching it.

I really don't think it is the fire. It just can't be - that is too "easy". I am going to guess the show is going to catch up the new viewers to where we are now, and then fast forward, after the fire (but not TOO long after the fire), to his death. Hook all the new people. Then, the following episodes will spell it out all clear and such.
