This is Us- Season six

I doubt her income was even brought up in the pre-qualification. I'm sure Toby makes enough to secure the loan on his salary alone. She's likely not even on the home loan on their LA house since she was unemployed when they bought it.

And, yes, we're talking about these characters like they are real people. Lol.

it's not the issue of the characters or the circumstance of it being a mortgage for the true purpose of what i'm asking-i'm just curious if people are o.k. with their spouse/partner disclosing their individual confidential income, asset and identity data without their knowledge or permission.

I would have no problem as we have already given each other permission and trust the other completely.

I don't think any of her personal information would have been disclosed if she is not one of the borrowers on the loan. It would be a non issue in this case. I give out my husband's personal data all the time without telling him first, since I manage all the household accounts. He doesn't care.

Absolutely!

a minor point in the story line of the most recent episode but one dh and i had differing opinions on so i would be interested in other folk's-

when toby said 'i got us pre-qualified' (for the house he wanted). b/c he said 'us' i assume that means he used both their incomes/assets/credit information which would entail submitting both his own and kate's confidential information like ssn's and such. would you disclose your spouse's information of this nature without their consent let alone knowledge? would you be o.k. with your spouse doing this?

I’d be ok with him disclosing them, but definitely would prefer a heads up, even though I’d say yes.

He's a mix of both.

I'm going to be the odd one out here and say I really like new Toby. He's confident and driven, excels in his job, maintains his health and still has a sense of humor. i didn't care for goofy, self-deprecating Toby with the bad wardrobe.

I liked Old Toby but also like parts of new Toby.

I watch the show, but haven't ever gotten emotionally invested in any of the characters - which is why I'm writing on this particual thread...

My cousin, and best friend, passed away from cancer in October and I can remember when This is Us came out she was really into the boards and going back and forth with people debating Jack's death. She really got into it! :p And she REALLY tried to delve into it with me and I was always telling her "Kristy, they're just characters on a TV show!!!"... lol

Ahhh - I miss her a lot. Now, seeing this thread, I kinda wish that I'd gone back and forth with her about Jack's death just for the helluvit. :littleangel:

Short answer - unqualified YES. I completely trust my DH, and his judgement, on every level.

We’re ok with it in this house. We’re a team and have long approached financials as us, not his and hers. Everything is joint owned anyhow, so anything he would do would affect me even if he didn’t include my info.

I tell him that ALL the time! LOL.

It wasn't always easy. There have been plenty of fights and hurt feelings, but in the end when he was traveling every week I knew it was best for our family then and in the long run. I would always tell people I had it easy compared to military spouses whose partners would be deployed for months on end. You just have to adapt.
Seems like an awesome attitude to have. I probably could use a little more of that :)

No.

I see both sides for Toby and Kate but one thing that hasn't been brought up on the show or in our discussions is wouldn't Kate consider LA "home" even more so than PA? I mean she was Kevin's assistant when the show started and at this point has probably been living in LA for 10-15 years. Maybe that plays into her storyline even if its unsaid.
LA is home to her. It’s where she wants to stay and she made that clear with the phone call at the end of the episode.

It's 350 miles between San Francisco and LA. Living between them would have meant they were each commuting 350 miles a day round trip for their jobs. There is no way that would work; they would each be on the road almost 5 hours a day.

I meant move as in find a city that’s halfway. Granted that could still be a couple hours both ways, and Kate would’ve most likely would’ve given up her job BUT the cost of the flights, the fact Toby could probably come home more and faster and know the schedule AND Kate could still be somewhat close to Rebecca and Miguel would’ve been all pluses imho

To me, that sounds like a "nobody's happy" scenario. Toby would still have a really long commute, and Kate would have no local support. One city or the other isn't ideal, but it's still better than dealing with both problems at once.

I guess I have my husband's ongoing consent but not specific consent. I buy and refinance houses pretty regularly and he isn't involved until the actual settlement table. we are a team and he trusts me and he really doesn't want to ge bogged down with the details. If the roles were reversed, would be OK with him doing the same with my information.

That's what I was thinking. In that scenario Kate would still have to quit her job, put Jack in a different school, be away from her Mom and brother, etc - if she was going to do that she might as well move to SF.

True, but I’m also of the mindset that any relationship takes work and sometimes a compromise. I truly don’t know how I’d react in their position (other than making sure Jack had adequate care regardless of where they are).
