tigger3 ,
the concierge did tell us they move the daybeds whenever needed.
4209 cranks with concierge cranks!!

Can someone please tell me when the BC concierge will open back up? Was it closed for refurbishment? Thanks.

We are staying at the BC 12/16 - 12/20. First time. We have reserved two nonsmoking connecting rooms one with a frig. We will be on the three day Wonder cruise 12/20 - 12/23. It is the land/sea package. I thought I read someplace that cruisers would all be put in the same building. Not sure which one. Does that mean that I can not make addtional requests? From what I have read we would want the third floor, non smoking, connecting, with a water view, full balcony. I'm sure they would laugh if I called and requested that. Also each room has four people, 2 adults and 2 kids. In one room the two kids are a boy 14 and a girl 16 brother & sister. The brother says he will not sleep in the floor and won't sleep in the bed with his sister unless there is a big blanket rolled up and placed between them. I'm afaid that will take up much sleeping space. Is it hard to get a room with a day bed? (plus all the other requests on top) A day bed would make everyone so much more happier. Sorry so long. The trip is all planned except for sleeping arrangements in the room.
Thanks so much.

Love all the pictures.

FYI the Beach Club lounge is supposed to be up and running on October 8th. My friend was just switched by Disney from a 1-bedroom BWV to a 1-bedroom suite there and was concerned because she is arriving on October 5th.

BTW, would anyone know the exact set up of the 1-Bedroom suite at the BC (there is a conflict what is said on this board and what they told her - king + 2 daybeds (disney) vs. King + 1 daybed (board)). She received an AP rate for the BWV and they said they would get the BC room without an additional charge! Also would anyone know the best room assignment/location.

Thanks for all your help!

Melissa,
Thank you for the info on when the BC concierge would open back up.

I've heard that the YC concierge doesn't have enough food to make complete meals off of except for breakfast. Does anyone know if the same is true for the BC concierge? I just want to know what to expect.

Does anyone know if there is a post of the offerings at the BC concierge somewhere?

Thanks for all the help.

The concierges aren't really supposed to be an alternative to meals per se, but at the Grand Floridian, they do have one of the restaurants come up every night and cater a special dinner sampler. Not full course meals, but with desserts and everything, it works. Same deal with the Yacht Club, except they don't have the restaurants cater the meals. They had appetizers out there around dinnertime, and we're generally light eaters anyway so it seemed O.K.. I guess the idea is to have the guests lounge upstairs in their private lounge before and, or, after dinner.

OK...I just updated the Guest Rooms section. The suite you mean is actually a Junior Suite, the one with the tiny living room with the one daybed. There is actually a King bed and a daybed in the Master Bedroom.

Padre, second floor of the Beach Club. All the Yacht Club rooms have a full balcony, except those on the ground floor. And good luck with the two teenagers. Get the daybed.

Hi Joe,

I LOVE the info you have here!!! It's been great for planning our trip next month.

On another post on the Resorts board someone mentioned that the BC doorman told them that Concierge WILL NOT reopen as planned in October because not many people book it. Have you heard anything?

I'm concerned about the BC concierge reopening too! I have it booked for December....
I also have the Yacht Club Concierge booked for the same dates - I'm going nuts trying to decide which one to actually make that deposit on and which one to let go - so obviously I'd love to know whether the BC concierge will even exist!! Anyone have the answer?
thanks,
Jody

No word yet from Disney on what's going on with the Beach Club Concierge. Your guess is as good as mine. Thanks guys, stay cool.

Do you know if the new pool at the Beach Club Villas will have a zero entry ramp entrance for persons with disabilities?

Good Evening!!! Just checking if anyou knows if Disney Club rates are out for next yr...or any other discount offers, I'm new at the savings came when going to Disney..Have a travel agent who swears she'll help but you know how tht goes....Booked a standard room need advice on room request, deciding if I should upgrade but cost is already high enough (2 adults/2 kids going)...also which rooms are a little bit larger (standard or next higher view) ?????????????? Hola, amigos...

Give me until the weekend to find out the '02 rates. I'm getting busier as the year reaches into October.

Oh, yeah, check the requests section for help. Anyone else care to add some personal advice?

On November 1st, I'm going to add new stuff. By then I should have my new computer totally autonomous. Now, I find myself using two side-by-side. Yikes.

To all…

Seeing a couple posts about the value of the YC Concierge.

Just had a discussion with the MOD this evening, and another scheduled with the Concierge manager in the morning. We have been here for five nights and are seriously considering changing properties tomorrow for our remaining three.

Having traveled a good bit, and experience other properties, I would rate the concierge service and lounge a 6 out of 10.

Food is marginal. The continental breakfast is very limited. Snacks through the day are pretzels, chips and cookies. Evening appetizers are stone cold. Has mainly been appetizers normally served warm like mini corn dogs, jalapeno poppers along with a selection of vegetables and fruit. Certainly not appetizing enough for a light dinner.

Nightly deserts are good, but the same each night.

Service is hot and cold. Only a couple folks have learned our names, easy to do now with the property at 18% occupancy at check-in.

We were not offered any other rooms at check in and got push back when asked to tour others. Again, the property is empty and you think they would be willing to open up a selection.

The lounge is small (seats 18) and very cold- and it is not just us, we have heard from many of the other guest that it is too cold.

Complained three times about the temperature. The first time the CM told my wife it was a health department regulation to keep it that temperature. I immediately called the MOD and she told me that she was not aware of any such regulations. She let us know that we could adjust it at any time. We still find the AC cranked all the easy down each time we enter.

The lounge is not conducive to eating at all. There are chairs and sofas arranged through the room with a single coffee table and a number of end tables. The heights do not easily allow for eating form them. So you end up with the plate son your lap.

So – the question is not is the Yacht Club a great place to stay. Yes I believe it is. Seven minute walk last night from England in Epcot to the front of the hotel. Stormalong Bay is a great pool for the kids, they love it. The property is beautiful.

But is the Concierge Level worth the $126.00 per night difference – I do not believe so. You can do a lot of extra stuff for those dollars.

Complete trip report, with why we like the YC and tips and tricks from this trip to come.

Last note, this hasn’t effected the quality our trip – but just wanted to let folks know while we are in the action what we are experiencing….

Forget a few things…

We called each day for the towels to be refreshed. At other hotels at the Concierge Level – this meant a complete towel reset. They dropped the towels off for us and left the dirty ones.

Our dishes from the room cleaning are still outside of the room – 10:45 p.m..

These are nit-picky – I admit.

The big one is they missed a birthday today. When I called Itinerary Planning, I informed them today was my daughters seventh birthday. They did get us reservations at Cinderella Castle – not a big deal considering the current travel issues….

But when we came back to the room – no card from Mickey, Minnie or even the friendly folks at the desk….

This was a big miss on service, one that the MOD admitted to tonight. Again for the additional $126.00 per night and getting a heads up on this – one that should not have happened.

I really appreciate the honesty of your post, Steve -
I just put down a deposit on 8 nights YC Concierge for December, after a lot of "debate" - lots of people had written negative reports, and then lots of people wrote positive ones, so I took the plunge. However, I realize that with Disney operating so far under capacity, I should have no trouble moving our ressies to another resort. If you have any opinion on which would be best, (best service/food/ambience in concierge) I'd (and I'm sure others would) love to hear your opinion. Also, if you do move from the YC - where are you now? Inquiring minds want to know! AND I'd like to know how the management reacted to your complaints - you mentioned you had a meeting set up?
I look forward to your future reports and thanks for taking the time to post them here on this thread. This is really the one-stop for EVERYthing a person could want to know about YC/BC.
good luck with the rest of your vacation, by the way!
Jody

Steve,

I couldn't agree with you more. While my family and I continue to stay at the Y/C, we do not feel that the additional expense of the concierge level is worth it. We have done the trip many different ways, (different plans and discounts). If you take the extra cash you save from staying in a water view or standard view room, have a light breakfast at Beaches and Cream, and spend the rest of the money on dinner, you can dine at some very lovely places in the evening. If you make your priority seatings from home, request turn down service for your room, the only thing missing is the white robe.

You know what I think? I think the service and situation has been generally crappy because of the low in tourism since 9/11. There has been a dearth of money pouring into the system, but the cyclical downturn of Disney in general (and possibly the cast members' attitudes, sorry to say) is by no means a no-brainer.

When we stayed concierge in March of 2000, it wasn't really comparable to the Grand Floridian at Christmastime, but some of the stuff Steve is noticing...wasn't going on back then. The lounge was actually pretty O.K, temperature wise, and the staff of two people (a rather nice older lady and a young guy) were genuinely nice and made it feel like they wanted to be there.

For now, I wouldn't stay concierge out of my own wallet at the Yacht or Beach clubs even if I hadn't read the complaints. My big issue when it comes to staying at a hotel in Disney is the room. I don't usually spend time there, but my overall attitude on the vacation stems...um, in part...from my time in the place where most of my dollar expenditure (ya, i probably sound like alan greenspan at this point) is allocated (and where i sleep).

Waking up with a feeling of "i could've stayed somewhere else" rather than "i like where I am", well, is not cool. The concierge rooms at the Yacht and Beach Clubs...don't do it for me. The regular Beach Club rooms, IMHO, need a once-or-twice over as it is, and then they had to go and keep 'em the same for Concierge guests.

Personally, the general offering of services at the Concierge Levels should be up to Grand Floridian standards all the time, just within the individual theme of the hotel they're at. They can't say "well because this hotel costs less we have to have a lesser concierge level". Maybe someone from the Yacht Club is gonna read this and...well...we'll see what they end up doing as time passes.

Hi everyone, I've read this thread from Day 1 and I agree with Joe Cool.

In addition, I used the Concierge lounge for the past 8 days and didn't find anything wrong with it. I don't think it was only me, I went into the lounge at differing times each day and about 70% of the time there were families and couples socializing in there like it was a quiet party at someone's home. To my knowledge nobody ever had a complaint about the temperature of the room or the food! It was actually quite pleasant and very accomodating, the lounge attendants stopped what they were doing everytime I entered the room and asked two questions, "Hello, how are you today? and "Can I get something for you?". They are very gracious people even in these trying times.

I admit, I did not have a daughter that was celebrating a birthday, but if I did, I would throw a party for her myself. In fact, I was celebrating my 10th anniversary and we did just fine celebrating on our own.

The Concierge host and hostesses made sure to stop (no matter how busy or involved they were with another guest) and say hello everytime we were leaving or returning from an outing to the parks. And they were always happy and available to assist me with my questions.

So maybe I stayed at a different YC Concierge Lounge than everyone else but I found the experience to be quite nice. It seems a shame to deny yourself a great experience simply because one or two did not find it lived up to their expectations.

By the way, I stayed in Room 5229, everything was in working order, not beaten up and there was an excellent view of Stormalong Bay, Crescent Harbor (as they call it) and the Boardwalk. And yeah, we got the folded towel animals and didn't even ask for them!

Godd Afternoon, After reading the posts from unhappy YC/BC guests I'm wondering if I really want to stay there...I'm going to BC in May 2002.....Joe what exactly do you mean by the rooms need a once over.....tell me something, it's really expensive to stay there and I only ate at the Cape May Cafe but didn't see the rooms upclose on my last visit...I just thought that the close proximity to Epcot (which I love) and the view across the bay was great....Also my son wanted to do All Star Sports before & I wan't to step it up a little this time....Any views concerning BC accomodations would be appreciated from any previous guest....THANKS!!!!!!!!!
