This morning, at my office, we were visited by a pregnant drug rep. She was wearing a shrinky dink sweater over a white shirt, last two buttons open, and her waistband was folded under her belly. There was a good five inches of pregnant belly showing. I felt like reaching over and pulling up her pants (which had that stretch maternity panel stuff, btw). Ugh. She looked as good as a 300 lb cirrhotic male with a bear belly.

On the other hand, most of the male drug reps come in wearing shirt and tie and suit, even on the hottest summer day, and most women reps wear skirted or nice dressy pant suits.

Do you think she knew her pregnant belly was sticking out or was it obvious that she was trying to show it off?

Being in the office when I was 9 months pregnant (in June nonetheless), I always made sure I looked as professional as possible. I bought alot of stuff at Target and they have nice looking button down pregnancy shirts that are fine for the office. Outside of work was a different story- I didn't have belly stretch marks so I didn't mind having it showing a bit. Legs on the other hand were pretty yucky.

She needs to get some more professional clothes, especially if she is in sales!

It is unprofessional to do a "midriff" look when not prengant and though I am in favor of showing the beauty of a pregnant belly--the same "rule" applies to pregnant professional dress. No tummy skin showing.

Exactly!

It is inappropriate to show your belly in a professional setting, whether that belly is pregnant or not.

This will be the same woman who will be complaining when she doesn't get a good raise or the promotion she wants. ;)

I wonder if she rolled her pants down in the car on the way over and forgot?

This is possible. I know I HATED maternity pants...none of them are confortable, especially the over the tummy kind. I was constantly pushing them down when not in public, and it is possible I would forget to adjust.

But I'm not in sales either, and my appearance didn't count for much.
