Hi everyone, yes I'm still looking even though the husband wants to hold off - however one thought occurred to me with the whole "loaded" contracts vs the "stripped" contracts and that is:

I've stumbled across a contract that would need to have the leftover points used up by April of next year. Here we are at 4 months out - and you DVC'ers tell me what you think is the best price I could rent those points out for. Of course I'd like to think $9 or $10 - but obviously people would know they have me by the you know what's .......

If you don't feel comfortable posting here publically - email is fine. Thanks!

My guess would be that the most you could rent them for $6 a point. Right now there are some tremendous deals that offer people alternatives. $6 might be too high.

When you say "leftover" do you mean points that are already banked or that expire at the end of April. If they expire at the end of April, depending on the total number of points, some of them may be bankable until next year. And, if you're looking to use some closer to home, check out the Concierge Collection for something near you. If you're looking to rent them, there is Ebay but the tendency here would be to know that you're working within a shorter time frame and more anxious and willing to accept a lower price.

In addition to the deals available directly from Disney, you would be competing with an already busy time of the year for DVC resorts- Spring Break. Even if you started trying to buy the resale today, it wouldn't close and be in the computer for about a month or more, so that would put you into the 60 day breakage period, where any unreserved DVC member rooms are available to CRO. This is when many of the good AP discounts become available.

As CaptainMidnight mentioned, $6 might be a good rate, if you can find someone to deal with on short notice.

A couple of thoughts. Since you are just buying the contract you might be able to get Disney to bank the points for you. They sometimes will work with people in strange circumstances. You could also take a vacation of your own during that time or give the points to a relative or something. If you end up having to rent them - go ahead and try - it never hurts - I didn't have any trouble getting points sold last year when I had a bunch in the 60 day window.

WOW I'm quite surprised that you say the MOST I could get is $6 a point! I see on the DVC Rent/Trade board (which really doesn't have much activity) that people are advertising $9 or $10 or even sometimes $11 !! Are they dreaming or what?

The best price I could obtain would be an AP rate for a 2br at OKW for $269 (NOT including tax ....) so it would seem to me that if two people were splitting this cost and even renting at $7 or $8 you are saving quite a substantial amount of money! SO I would think you could rent at $7 or $8 easily -- ?? I guess I'm Wrong??

Now I've just done a litte more math and I don't know if this is the right frame of mind to think - but with the AP rate for a 2br at OKW - it comes to $269/night - with tax it comes to $298.59 a night! That is the best rate possible without renting or owning.

Now - if I rented those points for say a week's time and I've done the point calculator and the math and if I could pay $6 per point and split this cost with another party - it would end up costing us each $85 something a night to stay in a beautiful 2br at OKW and that's TAX INCLUDED! Wow that is value resort prices (and we know we don't want to stay there!).

Hmmm, maybe this is a good thing I didn't rush into - that is if someone is willing to rent the points that low - do you really think they would? I realize they are alredy paying for their dues "doubled" over ($3.13 - now $3.22 for next year) and so other than the purchase price they are making money still!

I got this idea after seeing a post not too long ago and someone figured out that over the next 40 year time frame the point cost comes to like $1 or $2 so by renting at $6 in the long haul you are paying WAY more - but I'm thinking short term right now. And $6 sounds like a steal to me!

Does it even get lower than $6 ever?

To get someone to rent to you at $6.00/point they would have to be desperate - meaning they were about to lose all their points. That means you would need to be able to travel pretty quickly. Most DVCers to rent points try to get 10.00 - 12.00 per point. There is no given that you would be able to rent a weeks worth of points for 6.00/point. However if you are the desperate one you may take 6.00/point one time to get something for your investment. We rented some points last year for 6.00/point. We just had a few left and it was better than losing them entirely. Most of the points we rented were 9.00 - 10.00 per point.

Using your own figures, a week's stay at OKW from Feb 16- April 30 (NOT including Easter weeks- which are more) in a 2BR would cost a member 296 points. The AP rate for the same 7 nights would total $2090.13 (using your numbers). To match that rate, your renter would pay $7.06 per point. The AP rate includes daily housekeeping which would cost another $40 per day when renting. This would lower the value to the renter again.

If I had the option of phoning a credit card # to Disney and receiving a confirmation OR mailing a stranger a check for a reservation which could be cancelled without the likelyhood of saving any $$ for my risk- I'll call CRO every day.

If I'm looking for a Sun-Thurs stay only- renting points may well save some $$ and be worth any potential risk, but if my dates will include a Fri or Sat at this time of the year, I'll have a lot more confidence dealing with Disney directly.
