Okay, this is weird. We booked our reservations for BWI through Small World...when we filled out the online computer profile, we made it very clear we were not AAA members. HOw do I know we didn't accidentally check yes? Because you have to actually actively fill out your AAA information...and we have none! So I know I said no.

When we got our quote however, it had an AAA discount applied....saved us over 300 bucks! We haven't thought too much about it since then...(trip isn't until December), but we received the information on paper in the mail and it says to get the discount we need to show our AAA card and we don't have one!

well, there goes our discount.

WHY? If it saves you $300 then go get a AAA card. It can save you more and not just on your vacation. The membership is around $65 which still leaves you a saving of $235. Check out the AAA web site and see if you'll use it for more than just the resort. But in my humble opition I think you should get it just for the discount!

ABSOLUTELY!

You can still get a AAA membership before you go to DisneyWorld. The sooner the better before there are no more rooms available at that rate. If you do it today, call Disney with your card number. You should be able to apply it to your room.

Okay, maybe we will! I had read in the Unofficial Guide that you shouldn't rush out and get AAA membership just for the discount, but if we'll save alot still, then we'll definitely do it! Thanks for replying.

I am so curious as to why it got applied to us in the first place!

Yes yes, plenty of time to join AAA. As for your note about the Unofficial Guide and their remarks on the subject, I agree in general, but in this specific case I think it is pretty clear that in this case it is worth it to join AAA. By joining up not only do you save ~$235 on your Disney vacation, but you will also get roadside assistance for a year, plus all the other great AAA benefits and discounts.

Let's do the math here :teacher: : $65 spent vs $300 saved plus radside assistance and other discounts and benefits... You do the math;) .

We're doing it. :bounce:

For some dumb reason, I had assumed AAA membership would be more expensive than that, but I guess that's what you get when you assume instead of doing the research!

Thanks everyone!!!

Double posting out of necessity!

Well, count me as thoroughly impressed! Small World just called me because they saw my post and figured out who I was! The application of the AAA discount was done by accident, but from my point of view, it's a happy accident! Now we are going to join AAA and get savings we would not have gotten had it never been applied to us in the first place (DH and I would never have spontaneously joined AAA). Plus, we have a travel agent who really cares!

Color me happy and impressed!!:bounce::Pinkbounc :bounce:

I wouldn't join AAA until you know for sure that it is the best discount you can get, unless you really want it for auto purposes. If codes come out for your time, they would be better than the AAA discount.

It's 1. a good savings for us and 2. we could use it anyway and 3. if codes do come out, we can use those. But if they don't come out, at least we know we'll be saving something.

Win/win situation over here!

Do AAA discounts ever run out for Disney resorts per dates? I'm going in Decmeber 2004 but haven't booked my resort yet. I'm buying a car next month so I'm going to check out this AAA club thing b/c it might save me a penny or 2. A friend of mine always uses her's for random things.

Also, can you only book packages thru AAA? B/c I believe my family purchases tickets and resort separately.

I don't think AAA discounts run out. It's my understanding that if you have AAA, you are eligible for a discount, no matter what.

We have a room only reservation with our AAA discount. Also, my travel agent mentioned there a few park hopper options you can apply an AAA discount to.

To anyone who is not a AAA member....
You should join!!!
The road-side assistance is invaluable....
Just wait until you need it...
Also you get discounts everywhere...
Not just Disney...
I am not a salesperson or anything...
But... Check Out AAA

Well I am thinking of joining AAA now to. One for the Disney discount and for other things I would use it for.

Now the questions begin?

If my AAA does not offer Disney Tickets. Can I buy from another office?

If I am booked in 2005 can I apply the triple A discount later on. Say if I buy it Dec of these year.

If you lock your keys in the car as often as I do, you'll be glad to have AAA! I also use it every year for a hotel we stay in at the shore - 1/2 price AAA rate! And it's also peace of mind when traveling - I don't want to change a flat. We also added DD to it since she has her car at college.

To answer your first question....
I'm not sure, but I think you could. You are a member of the whole AAA club, not just the one in your area.

Second question...
Book the AAA rate now. Even if you actually join later.
You don't have to show your card (if the hotel even asks for it),
until check in.

I THINK there are a limited number of AAA discounted rooms, so I would book it as soon as you know. You can call Disney directly to reserve your room and apply the AAA rate, you don't have to book through AAA.

Yes, just for locking your keys in a rental car at any time, it was worth twice the price. They were fast, friendly, and "paid for" - kept us on schedule for making the plane, and kept Sister-In-Law from pushing me into the lake. (Who would have blamed her?)

I think if you already have that discount locked down, pay for the least expensive membership, and sleep easy.

Maddle

PS - Slightly OT - separate the keys on the key chain if they give you two. My own Sis and I keep copies of each other's keys when we travel. Even when I am alone, I separate them. Brother-in-Law kept the two keys together on one key chain - a disaster just waiting to happen.....and it did.

I'd join AAA even if you end up getting a better discount. We've saved $ over the years on hotels, etc... and the roadside assistance is definitely worth it.

Just last month we were stranded on I-95 after a squirrel (can you believe it!) chewed through our alternator wires and we lost all our power. We called AAA from the road and they came out and towed us 31 miles back to our house.

They also gave us phone #s for local cab companies so that we could get the rest of our group to a train station to catch a train to our area (the tow truck could only fit two people).

It would have been very difficult to arrange that help without AAA.

Oh, and we called AAA again the next day to tow the car to a repair shop (to fix the wires).
