This is an especially hard thread...

If she can't get a refund (and is looking at losing full price) could she just pay the change fee for a cheaper flight and get credit for the difference. For example, say the original ticket was $300, change fee is $50. If she could change it to for a flight that only costs $200, she could at least recoup $50.

One of my very few airline stories... I had a flight on NW once and my original choice of dates was outrageous so I went with another return date. During my trip I decided to stay longer so I called to change the flight to the day I originally wanted. I got it, with a $125 refund, and no change fee. Never hurts to call.

If your still on speaking terms, I would suggust asking him to split the original cost plus the $100. Then your not out the whole amount, and he has nothing to lose because he'll get a ticket for later use for 1/2 +50. (Not a bad deal from his point of view)

As someone who had a similiar experience in college (not the trip part, but breaking up from a very LONG relationship after the holiday) I know the splitting the stuff can be especially awkward at that point.

I am very sorry for the pain you are experiencing. I know I found my DH afterward and in hindsight I can see it was meant to be. Someday my wish is for you to feel the same and find your own happiness.

jetstrip19,

Please let us know what the agent or supervisor at Continental Airlines ends up doing.

I wish you well.

Hey, chin up, the only problem you may have is with your flights, but hopefully you will be able to change them.

Honestly, it may not seem it right now but you are lucky. A few years ago, i had a great trip booked, one week wl and one week bc, which i had paid for myself completely for myself, husband and two kids. He wanted to leave me for this other woman - but he still wanted to come on the trip. I honestly wish i had told him to go right then and brought my mother, brother, or someone else on the trip. All he wanted was the free vacation, and when he realised it wouldn't happen - he decided to stay with me.

A few years, and several other women later, I finally saw sense and got rid of him. And we had our first trip without him in December and it was absolutely fantastic. I know if may seem hard now, but look forward to a fantastic trip, and don't try to sort out your problems with your other half for the sake of the trip only.

My experience with Delta and US Air is that there is a penalty (75-100) and the voucher goes to the credit card holder with a 1year window to rebook
