BE CAREFUL WHEN RESPONDING TO EMAIL!

Tonight I received an email from US Bank that I had been randomly chosen for internet banking account verification, and that I needed to check my account and verify that all the information was correct. It gave me a link to go to and instructions on what to do.

The only problem is... I don't have an account with US Bank!!!!

I know there have been fake emails trying to get your accounts/passwords/credit card information. I've seen emails from Ebay, Paypal, FTD Flowers, Bank of America, etc.

Please be careful when responding to these emails. Remember that your bank or any legitimate company will not ask you for your account number/password over email. DON'T GIVE YOUR PRIVATE INFORMATION!

OK, that's my PSA for today. Thank you for your time.:)

I have gotten that same email (US Bank) about 6 times in the last 3 weeks! In fact I just deleted one a few minutes ago!

just deleted that one too.. do crooks really think its going to kewep working? i had never really even herad of us bank:)

I haven't received that one yet. I'm leary of even opening anything from someone I don't recognize. Thanks for the heads up!

Yeah, I got on over the weekend from Citibank, even though I have no account there.

US bank is pretty big here. It used to be Firstar then they changed names. It struck me as funny that I got the email since I work for a bank and I know we would never do something like that.

The problem I have is that these crooks are really good, the linked page looks so real, to the common computer user, it would look legit. That's what scares me.

We had a strict warning at work the other day about these types of emails. Never ever click a link or call a phone number in one of those emails and give out personal information. If the email appears to be from a company you do business with, say PayPal or an airline, go to their website directly by typing the URL or following your bookmark. If an update is required, you will be notified when you sign in.

Also, most "phishing" emails, as they might be called, will not greet you by name but as "Dear Member" or Dear Account Holder". Emails from companies you do business with will correspond by addressing you by name.

I got one from US Bank last week also. I do not have any account there. It looked very legitimate. Mine said someting different though. Can't remember exactly what the dire situation was that they were alerting me to, but it wasn't a random check like the OP. Everyone be careful!
