Went to 50's last week, had a very average dinner, but great service.. Got the bill and the waiter forgot to include a pen, so I set my card in the black thingy and was going to ask for one when he came around, but he grabbed it without me noticing and ran it thru...Short version, it was too late to add a tip with the card, I had no cash, no ATM card and not even a credit card to do a cash advance, just my KTTW.. The waiter was great, said it happens and just asked me to forget about it and enjoy the night, but we still felt horrible!!

If you want to do something nice for the waiter, I would definately send a letter to the 50's PTC manager & also to WDW guest relations and pay some compliments to the waiter. I've heard that positive feedback about specific CM's goes a long way at Disney and special recognition does not go unnoticed.

Sorry that happened. No, that's never happened to me.

If I had been in your position & only had my KTTW card, with no way of giving him any money...I probably would've run to a gift shop, bought something for him (not a souvenir type thing, but something everyone can use..like batteries, snacks, I-tunes card, ANYTHING) and brought them right back to him. Heck, if he couldn't use them, I'm sure someone in his family could. I can't think of anything else that could be done.

Wow, thats a great idea! I wouldn't have thought of that. I wonder why they couldn't have just run the card through twice? Or if the OP could have ordered another soda and placed the tip on that bill? I'm not too familiar with the KTTW cards.

They can't run the card through twice - once your sale is rung out, the transaction is complete and can't be adjusted (well, not easily).

But the 'run into a gift shop' idea is brilliant! I think,,, but I bet somebody will show up with an alternate viewpoint :teeth:

That happened to me on our last trip. For some strange reason, I had a $20 in my bag. That is the main reason that I hate the way the tip is done. Is there anyway that you could send the money later? I am not quite sure how to get it directly to the manager. I would definitely let Disney know. The new way that the tip is done is such a pain.

What "new way" is the tip done?? I know the tip is not included on the DDP anymore. I had planned to just have cash for the tip, as that seems easiest.

I wasn't going to say this because its embarrassing, but it actually happened again at Cape May... :)

This time I had my other cards and cash, but only had a few singles and a $100, so had to run to the gift shop (can't remember what its called) and get change....

That would never happen to us. Seriously. My husband doesn't feel dressed until his pen is in his pocket. Has to be a click top and black ink. And heaven help us if he runs out of ink early in the morning and has to go all day with a pen that doesn't work. I've learned to carry a replacement in my bag just in case.

Cute little quirk that I've depended on for 26 years.

I just want to say that I think you did the right thing by talking to him and explaining. It sounds to me that he was very sincere in accepting your apology and truly meant for you to not let it ruin your evening. Maybe he will be there on your next visit and you can make up for the mistake. Don't be too hard on yourself...we all make mistakes. ::yes::

I had kind of a different situation recent at Chefs de Framce.
I was using a discount where an automatic tip should have been included.
My final receipt was not itemized, so I had to assume the tip was included. Once I got home I figured the discount, tax, tip, etc and the server did get an 18% tip.
But had he not for some reason I was going to contact the restaurant and see how I could get the tip $ to him.

Is it more embarrassing to be caught and explain, or to find the tip money in your shirt pocket when you get back to your hotel at night? DH was unaccustomed to tip not being included in DDP, and simply forgot to leave the tip after he pulled it out of his wallet. We didn't want the waitress to think she did poorly!

Wow! I'm surprised he didn't make you stand in the corner with your nose to the wall. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I crack myself up.

Perla75,
Love your dancing bears. Where did you find them? Also, what is a KTTW card?

Thanks,

KTTW is Key to the World (I think that's the correct wording). Anyway, it's basically your room key card that also includes your ticket information and if you put a credit card on it you can use it to charge purchases to your room.

What I don't understand is couldn't they void the first transaction without the tip? I'm sure there are many instances when someone purchases something at Disney with their KTTW card and then needs to return it or something. They could just void the transaction (trust me anyplace with a cash resgister can void) and then re-rung it with the tip. Chances areyour credit card would have shown the first charge then a credit in that amount and then the 2nd charge with the tip.

Yes, sometimes these types of transactions can take time, but they can be done - maybe they just didn't want to go thru the hassle.

Thanks Kate! :hippie: I used to have a Jerry memorial pic but somehow it got deleted. I actually just did a google search for Grateful Dead images and found some great sites with huge libraries of images. I think the one I got these from was called "Access Grateful Dead"

Anyways, I guess another poster answered your question about KTTW cards. We've never used our room key card for purchases, but after reading this thread, I'm not sure we would. At least with our bank card if you need to make another transaction, it's easy to do.

So, was this with the DDP? Because if it wasn't, in all my experiences, if it was a Disney owned/operated restaurant, then you add the tip after the card has been run through, just like at a normal restaurant.

Has something changed recently?

I don't understand either. At every restaurant I've ever been to, they run the card, bring it back, THEN you write the tip in and sign the receipt. Is it different at disney now??

I made tip envelopes for this trip...I usually carry an envelope with many many ones in it for just this reason. Not just a Disney but everywhere I may need to leave a tip...I don't have a clue as to why or when I started doing this, but...I do...my money is in the envelopes for each of my ressies:) Sounds like you had an aweosme waiter...all the way around...
