I've found that a case solves the problem..I always have my iphone in a case anyway.

I just tried to get the bars to go down on my Nokia, and there you go, if you hold it with your hand around the entire thing...4 bars down to 1. I've never needed that kind of grip to make a call, so I've never noticed before.
Gonna try my luck with the new iPhone on 30 July when it hits Canadian shelves.

I've had dropped calls and signal loss with my iphone4. Will I return it? No. The iPhone is the best smart phone for the price available from AT&T. And they're offering a free fix. I'm prone to dropped phones, so a case is important for a 600 dollar computer. A free case is even better.

When my contract ends, will I switch to verizon? Definitely. The droid x is a much better phone, and I can only imagine how amazing a phone they'll have when I switch. Plus the biggest shortcoming of AT&T is their network (how can my phone go from 5 bars to 1, when I didn't have 5 bars to begin with?) Why won't I switch now? I haven't looked at all of the terms to be released from a contract, but I doubt they would include my iphone4-less wife.
Do I like my phone (other than the dropped calls)? Just as much as any other phone I own. It's a phone, not some black and silver idol to bow before. This is the first apple product I've owned, so I'm not going to get whiny and hurt like those who are drunk from the Kool-aid! That droid/tin foil video is hilarious.

Exactly. This happens on every phone no matter who makes it. If you put your hands over the ant signal is going to degrade. I could do it on my old Palm Treo, my old Motorola Q Windows Mobile, my Blackberry and my iPod touch. You just have to figure out where not to hold it.
Apple is the only company who has ever tried to resolve this issue for customers by giving them something that will prevent them from covering the ant.

I think Apple is indeed standing behind their product. Could Apple have handled it better? Absolutely!. But then again who of us haven't at one time handled some issue in less than an ideal manner.

I have an iPhone4 on order, And when it comes, I will judge on my own whether it is okay for me or not. If the issue is resolved with a bumper, then I should be fine since I always have a case for my smart phones.
